Is this movie bad or something? No one talks about it even though it's based on the most popular book ever.
It's very boring. It's too long is its problem.
Some of the best parts of the book can't be adapted to the screen, like the fake manifesto and all of Winston's depressing thoughts and fantasies. It's a bit like Crime and Punishment, you need the literary interiority of the character to get the full effect.
>>223591742>literary interiorityi love that you made this up just now
>>223591742the bigger "problem" is that the book isn't even a good story. It's mildly interesting political theory but as a plot it's got no legs to stand on
>>223591758Made what up? Those are words you can find in a dictionary.
>>223591828shut up, faggot
>>223591828I think the story is okay. Its greatest flaw is that Winston gets tricked by a man who may as well be wearing a "I AM THE LOCAL SPY" T-shirt.
>>223591856Winston effectively commits suicide by writing his diary. He explicitly says it. It's not even subtext.
>>223591832sure but has anyone ever combined them into a single phrase like that beforeno, it was you
>>223591758woah anon just discovered that interiority is what sets literature apart from other arts
>>223591875>nooo you can't just coin a phrase, you have to ask permission from Professor Nosenberg!
>>223591029The bible?
>>223591934I'm not sure you understand that I'm being sincere here
