Suggestions for weird directors with a unique style like Peter Greenaway?

(Like him in the sense that they have their own strange tone and atmosphere, not that they make movies that look/feel like his)

Post-60s Godard
Aleksei German
Jacques Rivette
Miklós Jancsó
Ken Russell
David Lynch

Idk there's tons. I also like it when you can tell a film is made by someone with a very narrow, particular understanding of cinema, regardless of what that understanding may be.

I watched this movie "road house" (1948) and I loved this movie. ida lupino just has an amazing screen presence with her raspy voice. modern actresses just don't have that kind of voice anymore that you only get by chainsmoking from early childhood. she plays against cornel wilde who's like your by the numbers leading man, fine, but then we also have richard widmark who's always a great performer. and he delivers

ida lupino plays the latest, hottest entertainer and she's just great. she sings (in her unique way) & plays the piano herself, you can see an example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW4Lvc5mkew

Well, 60s Godard too, but post-60s he's clearly living in his own dimension.

Japanese cinema is great for this. Shuji Terayama is the man.

Anyone know of films that have really evocative sound design without much music? I’m thinking of Eraserhead and Bresson’s stuff. I guess I could just watch Bresson. But his later movies get so inhuman and cold
>>
>>223591688
Definitely watch Godard's King Lear.
It's a mess but an interesting one.
>>
>>223591392
I'd say Marco Ferreri. There's a certain emotional atmosphere that makes his movies really fascinating to look at. I think I'd describe it as detached cynicism. You're watching these people say and do all manner of terrible things and it's like the camera doesn't even care about anything when you're looking at something you really wouldn't want to look at. Provocative imagery and themes whispered underwater.
>>
Anyone else remember Terayama Green lol

One day, in the back alley of a hotel, Jae Hui discovers Heung Su’s secret by chance. Contrary to Heung Su’s worries, Jae Hui keeps his secret and even helps him in a critical moment. I only talk about films with people who are close to me in real life. It’s more intimate and special that way. Letterboxd is a nice way to track films in the same way that Goodreads is good for tracking books for me. I don’t use them at all for social reasons. I just do it to remember every thing I have watched/read and when. It’s like photography, journaling and music. Time capsules intended only for me. I can see myself and everything I ever was.

Four episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in and the writing is pretty weak, it's also entirely lacking in atmosphere; heck, even the performances, with the exception of Vera Miles in the first episode, are lackluster. The night is mighty chilly,
And conversation seems pretty silly
I feel so mean and wrought,
I'd rather have the blues than what I've got.
The room is dark and gloomy,
You don't know what you're doing to me
The way it has got me caught,
I'd rather have the blues than what I've got.
All night, I walk the city, watching the people go by.
I try to sing a little ditty, but all that comes out is a sigh.
The street looks very frightening,
The rain begins and then comes lightning.
It seems love's gone to pot,
I'd rather have the blues than what I've got...

updated/new version of the 3x3 webm mosaic script.
https://pastebin.com/h1Cv8pnP

the last input to crop the letterbox is optional

>./3x3mosaic.lb.sh [input file] [comma separated timestamps] [clip duration] [letterbox height]

so for example

>./3x3mosaic.lb.sh Little.Forest.2018.1080p.FHDRip.H264.AAC-NonDRM.mp4 "00:00:58, 00:04:58, 00:04:49, 00:10:56, 00:20:29, 00:21:18, 00:23:41, 00:24:10, 00:28:18" 8 138

Rohmer is looking more and more modern in retrospect, there's a new trend of Rohmer-like movies (which occasionally have magical realist elements in them) at film festivals now that the social realist trend is dying (still baffled at Fjord getting the Palm, this shit ia already forgotten, NEON is retarded for collecting Palm winners hoping for awards cause they pick the most out of touch Juries constantly, last interesting pick was Titane and I wasn't even a big fan of that movie, although I absolutely loved Alpha which of course Cannes retards got filtered by). But millenials and zoomers making them are fucking retarded and boil down everything to muh therapeutic conversations, I'm so fucking tired of the therapy scam. Therapy is horoscope tier scam. I watched the hyped up La Gradiva and it was TERRIBLE. Just so insufferable and dull. I don't mind pseudo psychology necessarily, a director isn't supposed to actually be some genius who fully understands the human condition, directors are allowed to be retarded in certain views, but it's the way it's all wrapped up. I really hate this "gentle" variant of pseud armchair psychology. It's frankly disgusting. Needed a Hong Sang Soo movie as a pallette cleanser after, he is the only proper heir to Rohmer. Also remembered how good If I Had Legs I'd Kick You was, it's the only movie that called out the therapy retardation and did in such a stylish way. The anti-mumblecore stuff is great. I hate classic mumblecore for the same reasons I hate these infantile Rohmer lovers and movies like Frownland, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Toad Road and The Sweet East do a great job at taking a gargantuan dump on all of it.

I really do get Rivette. Most of my formative years I socialized mostly with women which had the effect of me picking up social patterns of women. When I got into therapy as a youth I learned that it's to my benefit if I can describe my thoughts in a clear and actionable way. Women by large are a lot better at communicating emotions through speech, and since I grew up around mostly women, I was useful for my shrinks. Meanwhile men by large are a lot better at communicating physically. This I reckon contributes to why psychotherapy is usually more beneficial for women.

I'm assuming Rivette had a similar upbringing as me. The homosexual/trans allegations are silly to me and I can only assume they come from men who cannot understand it because they didn't grow up around mostly women.

It is alleged by many women throughout my life that I have a knack for understanding and describing emotions. If that's true then the bar is in hell.

Anyways we're all a little /sensitive/ here
