what went wrong?

They gave it a generic plot. The villain had actual goals, instead of just being chaos. The main protagonist was spelled out from the start, so there was no suspense about which one of them would survive to the end. The world slid and moved around her, as if by constant luck after luck after luck that she survived circumstances that quickly ended everyone else. And then when they did find the major plot maguffin that they had been fighting over, it was a weak ass device that wasn't worth all the hype.

An ideal Evil Dead movie, will never tell you what the deadites actually want. They are just evil and do evil because they are evil.
An ideal Evil Dead movie, will try to convince you that literally anyone could go next, with nobody being safe. It would be a game of surprise elimination. The second you think someone might be the main character, they are dead.

they kept making evil dead movies after Bruce left
>>
>>223592165
there was no mystery. no build up, no intrigue.
>>
>>223592165
To add to it, if the victim COULD be anyone, than you can't make the audience hate everyone. You have to kinda have a reason to like everyone and feel bad for them when they go.
>>
>>223592059
They made sequels to 2013 instead of prequels.

Was the chick's husband even evil? What he accidentally poured boiling water on her one time?
Also, the father looked like Buck Angel which was very distracting.
>>
>>223592059
Too many jumpscares
Not enough deadite shenanigans
Terrible ending ripped straight out of Stranger Things
I didn't hate it though

He apparently had temper problems during life. Why that would be in an Evil Dead movie, is a mystery. There is nothing interesting about the dead making jerks act like jerks. The existential nightmare is making someone angelic act like a devil.
>>
>>223592425
no deadite shaming, guilt-tripping and psychological abuse
>>
>>223592059
It was dour and too self serious. The only entry that felt like a slog to get through. Just a bummer of a flick.
>>
>>223592599
anything for Zoomers will be pretentious, try-hard trash
>>
>>223592059
They keep making Evil Dead movies without Ash and Sam Raimi

>The world slid and moved around her, as if by constant luck after luck after luck that she survived circumstances that quickly ended everyone else

What kind of complaint is this? The same can be said about Bruce Campbell in the first 3 movies
>>
>>223593532
It can't be said about the first movie. All characters had an equal chance. He was a nobody.
In the second movie his character is literally possessed for a while. No reason to assume that he would be the survivor.
Army of Darkness is not an Evil Dead movie.

>An ideal Evil Dead movie, will try to convince you that literally anyone could go next, with nobody being safe.

The best film in the series is Evil Dead 2, and it's obvious that Ash is the protagonist and privileged above all other characters. In the third act Ash is the ONLY character in the film, so you know he's not going to die.

And the motives of the deadites have always been clear. They want to possess and kill humans because they hate us. "Deadite" is just an irreligious word for a demon.

It was fine. You guys are overthinking it.
>>
>>223592059
It was just forgettable. Which for an Evil Dead movie is unforgivable

>it ain’t that deep bro

I truly can’t stand this type of post. Even if you judge the movie on its own, removed from the Evil Dead label, it’s still generic with some of the most irritatingly stupid characters in recent memory and that’s going by horror movie standards of stupid.
>>
>>223592059
>the real villain was actually trauma

Very played out and doesn’t belong in an Evil Dead movie.

1. French director inserting his stupid French garbage into Evil Dead
2. New Zealand actors doing awful American accents
3. Where exactly is this supposed to be taking place? Evil Dead Rise is set in Los Angeles and this is a direct continuation
>>
>>223594883
Some of us have higher standards than "it was fine", anon.
>>
>>223592165
An ideal Evil Dead movie would have Bruce Campbell
>>
>>223592059
It was better than Rise at least
>>
no raimi no buy
>>
>>223595944
It was not better than Rise. It was mediocre at best.
