>Fantasy movie>The prophesied hero is a literal child>The adults follow them without question>The one guy that vocalizes the absurdity of the situation ends up joining the bad guys
>>223601244In a world where magic verifiably exists and gods audibly speak directly to people in public, refusing to go along with the terms of a prophecy seems short-sighted and incompetent at best.

>>223601451Lots of writers can't into world building. In Marvel/DC you still get alot of Skeptic/Atheist characters despite it being completely retarded in that setting
>>223601244You forgot>All the MILFs get fucked by the shota hero>>223602594Playing devil's advocate here, magic is regularly countered in those worlds by bullshitojutsu or some sci-fi device, while 99% of their gods and devil's regularly job and die to one note villains for shock value.
I genuinely just don't read fiction anymore that has a child/teen as the protagonist. It makes it feel like YA even if it isn't. Give me an adult character that is somewhat realised and has stuff going for them already. That doesn't mean you can't develop them or even change them entirely, if anything it just gives a more interesting base. I read First Law a few months ago and it was just refreshing to have the characters not be children or generic heroes. No I don't want to read about some pipsqueak who gets bullied by the big mean village kids but then finds a mentor and becomes a le badass (a la "Malice")
>>223602787Harry Potter has the opposite of this problem where no one gives a shit if it doesn't have underage protagonists
>>223602802well Harry Potter is YA fiction, where I expect that. What I mean is non YA, in which case surely you'd want adult characters?
