I saw Ryan Gosling at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

I think it just depends on the personality. Aforementioned Dafne doesn't mind as she's a bubbly exhibitionist. There was a story about a fan on Twitter who was determined to date her and they had a good interaction at the con and she started following him on IG which obviously lead to lots of amusing speculation.
A good-natured former child star turned C-Lister adult like Kathryn Newton thrives at these events and makes the most goofy or hideous looking fan feel welcome and becomes very friendly if not friends with her biggest fans. Lauren LaVera and Emily Rudd are very pleasant because they struggled forever before finally breaking through in their careers. Tim Curry tried to give 110% the last decade of his life because he couldn't work normally anymore needed the money for his medical issues, but I also remember him having to cancel sometimes because he just wasn't up to it.

Michelle Trachtenberg tried it once in like 2017 (I remember because I nearly went) based on IG posts from fans she was pleasant with the attendees but I remember she posted on IG stories what an awful time she was having with the hotel and the food and whatever and she cancelled her other scheduled appearances and never did it again. I never realize who they are until later. That being said, signing autographs at a few conventions is a quick easy way to pay your tax bill at the end of the year.

I don't know, last time I went to a convention it was a comic and trek convention in the 90's, which is a very different thing from that they've turned into.
You had a main stage and a big event and the rest of the day was spent browsing vendor tables that were basically a gypsy swap meet.
My dad collected coins, so he was always dragging me to coin conventions, so he threw me a bone once in a while and when a comic or trek convention came to town he'd let me go. He grew up with classic trek and we watched TNG together when it debuted, so I think he just used me as a convenient cover to go.

He's a pretty prominent figure in the industry and the country in general (not USA) so I saw his face all over the news on top of seeing him in internal promo stuff all the time, so that when I actually saw him irl waiting for the elevator with his cronies I blurted out to my coworkers 'Holy fuck that guy looks exactly like Mr B but uglier', he heard me and said 'It is me' but didn't smile like he thought it was funny and walked off. Yeah, I was 19 and didn't have cash for the tickets. You get free grub/campsite and you get time to see a few bands each day, more if you work the right spot. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a die hard fan looking to meet people backstage or just poor like I was, it's fun but still hard work with little downtime for the whole weekend. I got to smoke a joint with the guys from Sunn O))) though and they let my roommate do the sound check on their huge wall of sound which was nice to see him get to do. With the badge you get to go most places and people will clear out of your way or there's badge only pathways that make your festival experience more efficient. It's a good way to get your first contacts if you're a musician or techie as well, that roommate I mentioned came back as a sound engineer intern every year of his degree and it was like interning at Google for him, no way he would have gotten that without the impression he made on the people there the year we volunteered.
I volunteered at comic con that year as well but never again, they had me work the waiting lines for celeb meetups and kids (well I was only a few years older really) were constantly trying to skip the line and then the next day I worked the PC lounge where Focus Entertainment was demo-ing a new game but every single kid that came there was trying to get past the safeguards to install fucking LoL until I had to ask the Focus rep permission to put up a sign 'This is not a League cybercafe' at the entrance. The friend who drove us there worked the entrance lines in freezing weather all fucking weekend with 0 time off, I genuinely don't understand why anyone would work that con more than once yet most were regulars, weird.
Anyways, yeah it can be worth it but lotta exploitation going on too. In some places you get fucked over since you're not technically an employee and have less rights.

Sunn guys were very cool and way nicer than they had to be to us, they spent like an hour talking with my roommate about his band and gave him feedback on their demo. I was surprised at how empty the tent was for their concert though, like barely half capacity. When I saw Earth the place I was at was packed but I guess it's different when you're competing with 4 other bands on the same timeslot.

I saw Sadie Sink in some bookstore in London like a year ago. She's startlingly beautiful, but tiny and her hair was a mess.
