The attention economy feels like it completely collapsed this year. Nothing endures in public consciousness longer than a few days now. GTA 6 will be the last monocultural event that everyone revolves themselves around.
I had too high of expectations for this one. I thought it would be a "shades of grey" type thing where Hansen is a flawed man who arguably crosses several lines, but ultimately is bringing light to a societal dysfunction that no one else is willing to confront, sort of like Joker.Instead, it was about a pathetic loser who is in the wrong and fades into irrelevance, sort of like Joker 2.It's just a much less interesting story than it could have been.

Discussing the exploitation & sensationalism in the name of corporate profit is fine, the movie touches on that (even if it is hyperbolically blown out of proportion) but as it starts to portray Chris as some sort of megalomaniacal vigilante and paints the pedos in a sympathetic light you can sense something stinks underneath. You get the feeling it’s laying the foundation for an agenda that no reasonable person would ever subscribe to. It doesn’t come right out and say “hey trying to rape kids is fine just get over it lmao” but it’s itching to suggest that these people should be treated as something other than pond scum.
