He lied to the Sheriffso I decided to give this movie a rewatch to see if there was any context which would explain why the Sheriff was trying to run off Rambo like an assholeand I found it.when he first stops rambo, he tells him "that american flag on your jacket, walking around in this town might cause some problems"alot of hyper liberals and ex hippies were hateful of veterans from the vietnam war.what the Sheriff was telling him was he was entering a "Gated Community of liberal whites" area.then when he asked rambo in the same scene where he was going, trying to be helpful to get him where he is going(since he admitted already same conversation he was not passing through to visit anybody) he told the Sheriff "North" but in the car ride, Sheriff asked where specifically and he answered "Portland"ex soldiers know how to read a map.he was caught already lying and the sheriff had reason to suspect his intentions from then on out.he had a perfect little town, low crime, and the last thing he wanted was some hobo setting up camp there and causing troublehe was acting like we all want cops to act, Preemptively instead of showing up after you got stabbed to death.it is established from the start the sheriff is on a first name basis with everyone in his town.he was a Lion protecting his den, and Ramnig just couldnt help but try to stir trouble, lie to cops, deceive a helpful sheriff and chimp out because he did not respect that he violated the NAP of those times by bullshitting law enforcement that approached him respectfully at the start.please save, screencap and repost on the next repeat thread of "What was his fucking problem" thread next.you are welcome /tv/.

there is however many good arguments against the sheriff.he basically owned that town, the scene at the beginning when he exist the station he does a little stretch of happyy me go lucky that implies he feels he is living the perfect life.that was by the screenplay as designrambo didnt "respect his authority" enough and that triggered his hostility and pride, and in the end he went conpletely crazy trying to chase down a traumatized and isolated man with combat experience and enough ptsd to carry him through 4 more movies of story.the sheriff sacrificed a boaoad of innocent men just to "get him" and refused to back off instead of calling the Governor or Feds the moment his first man got spikes by a boar trap.I will tell you something, if I was the law in a small town and some deputy or local militia man I sent after you walked right into a pig spear trap through the gut, I am immediately going to back off a little if I give two fucks about preventing loss of life.I would not risk another man on you and instead call every favor I have to get outsiders to hunt you down and my dept would just provide backup support.the further you run the better.I might come after you with an assault rifle and helicopter alone, as appropriate to the times to avenge the one you killed, if I died, so be it

it has nothing to do with the sheriffit was his second in command that was psycho and triggered rambos flashbacks by being an abusive psychotic.but the sheriff didnt know that he had a psycho working for him so he found only an escaped prisoner who harmed his deputies.he was a good man at heart, but was set up by a dirty sadist that worked under him who was clearly out of control and at that point not yet exposed for the unhinged liability he was.even the young deputy called him out for his inhumane treatment and psycho cop told him "what makes you think I give a fuck".reallt fucked up situation all round desusheriff just had blinders on about his own department

Teasle's conversations with Traughtman are my favorite part of this movie. I heard originally Stallone had Rambo speaking a lot more in an early script, but Stallone thought cutting down Rambo's dialogue would make the movie better, and it did. The way Traughtman talks about Rambo tells you everything you need to know about him, and the way that pisses off Teasle is so damn entertaining.
