ITT: Special effects that haven't aged well or were bad to begin with.
>>223619547poor overworked fledgeling studio couldn't keep up with the demand for visual fx/took on too many jobs so they used the model from An American Werewolf in Paris and reworked it.
>>223619804he suit too big for he got dang head
>>223619804Holy fuckin sore thumb
>>223619804How ironic that it would've been cheaper and looked better if he was outside the suit.
>>223619849It's not even that, it's that his suit is basically glowing in the scene. It looks obviously fake while Rocket, the talking fucking raccoon looks fine and believable.
Where did it all go wrong?
>>223619872So this is one of the Guardians movies? I really liked the first one, pity they turned into a diversity and bad CGI fest
>>223620135lol
MISTER ANDERSON
>>223619618Is it the American Werewolf puppet? Looked more like the Ghostbuster dogs.
>>223619547I always loved this movie as a kid. Spawn is badass and i had fun with the effects. I still like it more than Ironman 1, but that's a secret
>>223620632Yeah being a kid makes you have non-existent standards.
windows 98 screensaver graphics
>>223619654lol, this was the first movie that came to mind for me
>>223620817Wonder what it was like to see Blade when it first came out. I never saw it until around 3 years ago and laughed uncontrollably through most of it
>>223619654Ngl this terrified me in 2006 or whatever the fuck and still does to this day
>>223620471they made a shitty sequel in the 90s where it was cgi
>>223620957It was awesome for a teenager in the 90's, watching it through a crt shitbox. No shit its going to be terrible for a cynical 40 year old who has no nostalgia factor, watching it at 4k, highlighting all the imperfections.
>>223621244Normally you're not supposed to admit you have biases clouding your judgment like nostalgia and watching it on a shitty tv.
>>223621287>UHHH DUDE YOU'RE BIASED IT'S NOT LIKE I ASKED FOR YOUR OPINION ON THE MOVIE WHEN IT CAME OUT OR ANYTHINGholy fuck. you need to kill yourself
>>223621244>it's not supposed to be viewed in 4k Ok then blame the studio for releasing that version of it.Plus it wasn't straight to video when it came out, it got a theatrical release which would have had similar clarity
>>223621203Came here exclusively, nae, SOLELY to post this. Pinnacle of extremely awful effects
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th401DUh8fw
>>223621203Why would they think this was a good idea? It would have been cheaper, quicker to producer, and infinitely better looking to just make up the Rock into the scorpion hybrid for close ups like this and then just use the CGI one for long and wide shots, with creative use of lighting. Was the Rock unavailable for re-shoots or something?
>>223621919I think they just didn’t have the budget and this was the “good version” of the CGI abortion that was this movie. Shame because the opening montage with the rock and the anubid soldiers holds up well, as do the third act climax battlefield scenes with the madji. They simply just ran out of money for The Rock + practical effects.
>>223621835We all played video games in the early 2000s with graphics like that>>223621973NTA but how much could it have cost to make some claws and stuff for him?
>>223619547
>>223619804Capeshit is so cringe.
>>223619547This was before movie CGI started using path tracing.
>>223622025>NTA but how much could it have cost to make some claws and stuff for him?Fuck all. Horror movies have done that shit on shoestring budgets since forever and plenty of them have actually produced decent stuff. CGI is not the budget option.
>>223621919Because you’ve already eaten a ton of shit by that point so what’s another log going to matter? The effects in the other movies weren’t much better but you didn’t complain then.
>>223622030Still looks great.
>>223622040Not all of it.
>>223622054>The effects in the other movies weren’t much better but you didn’t complain then. They absolutely were and aside from the very first time we meet him, where everything is shot pretty much in the dark, it's always used sparingly with Arnold Voldo with some sort of CGI rotting or something on him. He's never entirely CGI.
>>223622090You’re simply wrong.
>>223622051The mummy weren’t low budget movies. They had put out shittier (read: lower poly, quicker to render) effects than cgi rock and no one complained. It was always bizarre to me how suddenly people were complaining about shitty CGI in “Shitty CGI: the franchise.”
>>223622030this still looks great and was groundbreaking when it came out.
>>223620957fucking awesome is what it was
>>223620086When did marvel CGI go to shit? Like the moment it just lookef off and not part of the scene? It looked bad by Infinity War, but did the really bad CG start earlier?
>>223622602When they decided they needed six movies and 8 TV shows every single year and so hiring indian sweatshops was the only way to meet the goal.
>>223619849>>223619853>>223619870We're talking about Ruffalo or Rhodes?
>>223622648That and there was complaints from vfx workers on how Marvel movies infamously had directors that all just went "we'll fix it in post", or were otherwise highly indecisive so stuff had to constantly be changed and remade instead of being given time to be polished.
>>223622602I think it started to really fall off with the Civil War airport battle, so 2 years before IWWith the choice to have the airport environment be like a blank canvas for the characters and their abilities, and thus look extremely fake and gray and bland. A design approach they've used several more times since then, unfortunately. >>223622648Black Panther was when they were on 3 movies/year and several years before they started making any of the Disney+ shows
>>223622648What the hell, that fliparound looks worse than Xmen from 20 (at the time) years ago.
>>223619547Can't they just run this movie through DLSS5 now to fix the shitty CGI?
>>223620632The premise is good but the main actor is right that it could've been better. The HBO show is still the besthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKFzIM_rbAw
>>223619547That's unfair, the movie was released with unfinished effects, what they managed to complete is still great
The stop motion animation was jank and distracting. Jason and the Argonauts had better stop motion 20 years prior. They upped their game in that regard for RoboCain in the sequel.
>>223622030
>>223623607WTF
>>223623607unpossible
>>223623607uhh bros?
>>223621203God, this is just so fucking bad.
>>223623623shh nothing you didn't see anything>>223623607delete this
>>223619804I don't get it, what's so bad?
>>223622030Someone post the Pomeranian.
>>223623642
>>223622528Hell yes it was.
>>223622549Lmfao
>>223623595terrible take. you should be ashamed.
>>223623765I get it, you love that movie very much and it's old so you think it's illegal to criticize it.
>>223619654Genuinely think this works with them being extradimensional glitchy exceptions to the normal rules of reality. If something like that was real maybe they would have just a baffling texture and appearance completely unlike anything in nature.
>>223623895They move like comedic cartoons though, like a weird take on Taz the tasmanian devil's tornado.
>>223622885kek whats this
>>223619547The pronghorns at the beginning of No Country for Old Men
Doubly so with this one
I do like this film very much, though. Apartheid was a terrible thing.
>>223620957
>>223621203I don't get it, this looks fine to me
>>223626172Yes I am seeing movie for first time is great great so fun
>>223620471>>223619618Shit! Can't unsee
>>223619547everything between 1980 and 2026 that was computer generated. All cgi ages like milk and they just retouch it every time they "remasterbate" it.
