We all know that Mike is the best, but how long can he keep going? I hope he and the rest can keep it up for many years to come, and I think that is what we're going to get. Glad they mentioned the aging thing and got it out of the way, as it would have been embarrassing to pretend like other returning franchises do. Still, how long can they keep it up?
>>223647142I think I just like Mike more because I get more of the jokes on account of being around that era. My parents like Joel more for roughly the same reason. Both are good. I bet he can keep it up till death. At least in the 10-20K+ viewership numbers. Certainly online.
I sleep better to Joel episodes.
>>223647199>I think I just like Mike more because I get more of the jokesI have to agree with that sentiment. Sometimes Joel gets a bit esoteric, but that's ok too. I do like Joel's stuff and I met him once and he was good guy. And yes, sign my up for MST3K until he and the rest plain old can't do them anymore. Not like there's anyone else that even touches what they do.

>>223647230>Trumpy can do stupid things. He was prophetic too.
>>223647199Mike > Joel, but Mike's celebrity references were always too niche:>Wow Billy Barty was driving the car lastLiterally who? Just say Warwick Davis (or if it had been made today, Peter Dinklage).
>>223647393>Literally who?GET OUT.Kidding, but you ought to know who he was, especially if you like comedies.
Has anyone seen sting of death?
>>223647493I saw it in an AMC Theatre last month. It was like a lost episode from their glory days of the late 90s. They sounded the same too. The audience was perfect. It's funny enough that I want to pay to see it tomorrow.
>>223647310Justice for gypsy!
>>223647493Yeah, it was pretty good. Definitely better than whatever crap they've been producing. Can't wait for the other 3 to come out (and like 10 more seasons).
Joel's alright, the show was sort of pleasant/mellow background noise with himI remember laughing so hard to Mike era shit as a kid I thought I was going to die.The choice of movies has a lot to do with it....Mike was way better at picking the most retarded shit possible.
>>223647493I’d like to say retry much the same thing as >>223647538I’ll add that this is the revival that I wish we had gotten from the start. Joel’s biggest mistake was bringing in a bunch of coastal writers who didn’t really get the rhythm or heart of the original show.
>>223647556I wonder if they did that to avoid some legal conflict, but then again Joel owns jack squat of MST3K now, so who knows?
>>223647618Putting wife-murderer into it didn't help matters.
>>223647625I'm sure it's entirely because gypsy was a problematic character. The name itself was bad enough but having it voiced by a man made it too much. I understand why they couldn't have her but I also miss it.
>>223647142Mike's primary focus will always be RiffTrax, but I wouldn't mind if he was willing to do a new MST episode every year or so as a side-feature.
>>223647636I was not a fan of him or Joe Camel. Terrible choices for Mads. >>223647618 (me)I fucking hate autocorrect >Id like to say VERY much the same…
>>223647680>The name itself was bad enoughThere was nothing wrong with her name. The only people offended by it are people who pretend to be offended by it. I missed The Official Gypsy Consortium condemnation of MST3K.>I understand why they couldn't have her but I also miss it.I guess they can't do the voice anymore, but an AI (yeah yeah) could easily help out in that department. It feels the same regardless, but they should just add her back in.
>>223647725>Joe CamelHeh it will never not be funny 'cause it's true.
>>223647729Pat Brantseg voiced Gypsy in the Sci-Fi seasons and he came back for these new episodes as part of the set crew. The reason for no Gypsy clearly isn't who's voicing her.
>>223647761Then maybe Mike doesn't want to seem to be sending a message to Joel and just wants to play it safe. I'd still like a real answer, at least eventually from those guys and gals.
>>223647729Why draw the criticism of offending gypsies and trannies for no reason? It's not like gypsy was a vital member of the crew. She just came in during skits sometimes. Her absence is noticeable but it doesn't really affect much at the end of the day. Mostly just the intro music really.
>>223647230Pretty much. Joel's are better for comfy background noise, Mike's are better if you want silliness, especially the Sci-Fi seasons.
>>223647785I think the most likely answer is purely technical. They got lucky finding plenty of spare Crows and Toms in a warehouse, but Gypsy is much bigger and more complex to operate, which heavily limited her use in the original show. They probably just decided it was easier on all of them to go on without her.
>>223647799>Why draw the criticism of offending gypsies and trannies for no reason?'cause fug 'em, that's why. Honestly, the death of comedy come by these little bites here and there. >ok you can't say gypsy>and troon>and Eskimo even though no Eskimo has ever been offended by that word>oh and here's a list a friend gave me....And I hear ya, but she was an ingredient and to take her out to please....no one but those who will never be pleased is foolish at best. It emboldens them.Did you know that some people think Crow should have his name changed? Why you ask? Well, some claim he's a racist caricature of, take one guess. Guess who has been shown as crows with certain voices before.Where does it end?
>>223647832Do they explain her absence in the new one? Like she's still running her company?
>>223647832Your answer may even be right on the money, but I want Mike to comment on it, off-air as it were.
>>223647858So far, not a single mention of her is uttered.
>>223647858She is mentioned in a non-mentioning way that is rather funny.
>>223647858>Like she's still running her company? At least we have that in case she's never mentioned again.I just like how seamless the new episode is, like it could be immediately after Diabolik.
>>223647852It's not so much about pleasing people as it is about not drawing flak from them. The joel revival already changed her name to gpc and had her voiced by a female. It just isn't worth the extra heat from the you know who crowd. It's sad but I understand it.
>>223647938>It's not so much about pleasing people as it is about not drawing flak from themYes comedians should be on edge and afraid to do comedy. Hmmm mmm trying to please everyone is the core of the funniest of comedies.>changed her name to gpcWhich is stupid because they said it the same way several times and so does everyone else.Joel is a coward for that. I get it though, that's probably it, they just don't want to hear about it ad nauseam. Still a chicken shit thing to do, but I get it.
>>223647960Look, they're trying to bring back something that will hopefully get picked up by a larger publisher and they can start making more. I'm fully in favor of them doing anything in their power to nail that deal and get more made. It's not like they aren't edgy. When one of the kids fell off a boat, they said "this is no time for your natalie wood impression". Gypsy doesn't really mean fuck all except her glaring omission from the intro song. That's it.
>caring about the botsgrim
>>223648047Mike's crew is already successful with RiffTrax. They clearly don't intend to ditch that for MST, but rather this is more of a special event they're doing in place of the annual live show this year.
>>223648057Do you know where you are or the year?
>>223648047Yeah to all that, but you said it yourself, it's a glaring omission. One small edge smoothed out...hopefully it never happens again.
>>223648092Bullshit. If they get picked up by a major company, you better believe they'll ditch rifftrax for this. You don't go through all this production if you only plan to do 4 episodes of it. They're hoping it launches a revival and I am too. There's no way producing new rifftrax will be as lucrative as producing new mst3k episodes. You're way off base here.
>>223648120It's not much different from the satellite of love being named syd's olive loaf. But then again, now that I mention that, it does seem like there may be a joel component in all this for why they're doing these changes.
>>223648165Maybe, I mean I have heard of stakes being sold on other entities and then certain elements are never touched upon again, so as not to step on toes, but I wanna know the real reason! Super cereal.
>>223648136>There's no way producing new rifftrax will be as lucrative as producing new mst3k episodes.Nta, but are you sure? They're charging $66.99 for 4 episodes in high-def, but only $58.99 for standard def. :|Better than nothing I know, but come on, dudes. And yes I'm paying it.
>>223648180Well, there's no debate as to why the joel revival changed her name to gpc. They explicitly mention it was because gypsy is an ethnic slur and not appropriate for current year. That has to at least play some role in their choice to axe her.
>>223648136Mike cares more about keeping his creative control, and he can't have that with MST like he does with RiffTrax. He might do a new MST episode every year or so, but it won't be his priority.
>>223648199I don't know what you're implying here. There's going to be a hell of a lot more people buying an mst3k episode than and rifftrax episode. The reason rifftrax is lucrative right now is because it has 20 years of content they put behind a paywall. But if this show gets picked up by a production company, it will make more than any episode of rifftrax would. I'm not saying mst3k is worth more than rifftrax as it is, but going forward, it's much more lucrative to make mst3k episodes for a production company than rifftrax episodes for their website.
>>223648223>gypsy is an ethnic slurIt isn't an ethnic slur lol. People that are not gypsies and who get paid by Soros to get offended, are pretending to be offended on behalf of peoples' that they never met or will ever meet. But I get it.>inb4 they're "Romani" Sure, but they're not all from Romania. That's like calling every black person "African-American" when many blacks are not from Africa and are not American.
>>223648276>I don't know what you're implying here.Yes you do, it's a tad expensive, which makes me wonder if we're going to see more unless they collect another couple million dollars.>There's going to be a hell of a lot more people buying an mst3k episode than and rifftrax episode.Anon, they're officially the same entity now.
>>223648233Not every production company will meddle with what they're doing. I bet somewhere like amazon would let him do whatever he wanted with it. It's not like his rifftrax are really pushing whatever boundaries a production company might set for him.
>>223648293And I bet you sting of death will sell more copies on rifftrax than any of their other riffs for the past 20 years, even at that price point.
The way they have things set now, they can say wherever they want, but they're censoring themselves in that small way. It makes me not want a big company to come along and dump money on them with a set of conditions that will turn them into the anti-MST3K. Most likely that won't happen, but strangers things have happened and the precedent was set.
>>223648321Probably. It's so tempting for many because it is legit MST3K once again finally. It really feels like an extension of season 10 without a break. With that in mind, it should be ten bucks cheaper, is all. I said my piece and I'm not pretending that my posts will change anything, just speaking my mistie thoughts.
>>223648313>I bet somewhere like amazon would let him do whatever he wanted with it.I think it's funny that Amazon has so much crap on it, but not this. Although it's not like deals just fall into their lap, so expecting it on Amazon is asking for quite a bit I suppose.
>>223648396Prime video does have a ton of old mst3k episodes on it.
>>223648569Yes but I want the new stuff. Sling even has a bunch of it playing 24-7. Give credit where credit is due to all involved for sure. -cranky that I'm signed up for two streaming sites already
