I don't even think that's a bad idea, considering this is the fourth fucking Carrie adaptation (fifth if you count the sequel movie that was just a full re-tread but with alt rock and nu metal) and this girl is definitely the most likable Carrie of them all
But they never actually commit to any direction whatsoever
The mom is not evil or crazy enough, they make her somewhat sympathetic and kind of cool at times, but she still just snaps at the end and tries to stab her daughter in the fucking head with a sewing needle even the groundwork for that was not laid
They preface nearly every episode with a "misogyny bad" intro but the actual show has essentially no misogyny toward Carrie at any point even though there probably should've actually been some just for verisimilitude's sake
the main bully girl is given an equal (if not more detailed and justified) amount of pathos as Carrie, as fate itself is bending over backwards to FORCE Chris to bully Carrie because she literally has nothing else she could possibly do
The principal, who originally is one of the bigger shitheads to Carrie in the book and in all the previous adaptations, is now just a super nice guy who really cares, but unfortunately his hands are tied by bureaucracy and that kids don't start snitching on each other until the damage is done
The other bully girl, now played by a tranny, is also more of a bully to her best friend than to Carrie, and by the end is a fully sympathetic, non villainous character who tries to stop Chris from doing the blood bucket thing instead of actively helping like she originally does
And also Carrie is absolved from going berserk with her powers because of the addition of a new girl who can astral project and "take control" of Carrie

I get what you’re saying about the food, but you have to step back and look at the pattern of behavior. I know I’m speaking from an uninformed position because I haven’t watched it all yet, but this *could* be a case of showing, not telling. We’re shown her first confronting the customer about the garbage she’s feeding her kid, then we’re shown her outright refusing service to a different customer. That’s partly out of her convictions, sure, but it’s also exactly how control freaks boundary test. Off of what I’ve seen so far, you could make the case that it was her that browbeat her husband into seclusion.
