Dan "The Man" O'Bannon
>>
Imagine it's a cold rainy night in november, fall is in the air, you walk into the theatre to watch Return of the living dead and never come back out the same. For you have seen the greatest movie ever made. A movie that transends genre, made by pure talent. Only tainted by one thing... a weird pedo jew is one of the cast members. He just couldnt resist tarnishing the greatest movie ever as it is in his genetics to rape goy.
>>
If you have never seen the workprint of The Return of the Living Dead, then you've never seen one of the best horror films ever created. It's roughly 17 minutes longer and its lack of a musical soundtrack serves to make the film a straight horror picture, albeit with some funny moments intact.

>>223667137
>Dan "The Man" O'Bannon
Indeed.
>>
>>223667217
>It's roughly 17 minutes longer
Guess I have to rewatch ROTLD again (yes honey...)

I didn't know it was that much longer. figured a few mins. 17 is significant enough to warrant watching.
>>
>>223667207
>Only tainted by one thing... a weird pedo jew is one of the cast members

I wish anons like you would just shut up and stop virtue-signaling. Brian doesn't deserve a gold star, but Drake was 15. 15. Drake's as much of a fag that Brian is, but aside from his crime, I am just tired of reading or hearing these performative diatribes.

Like we get it, anon, he did bad, but you're framing it dishonestly. You post was kino until you mentioned real life pleasantries.
At least The Cinema Snob (I think?) referred to it in an amusing way, but this performative shit has gotten old. Aren't you all for fags fucking who they want anyway? A California scumbag rep went even farther, but let's not pretend that Brian Peck is the ultimate evil.
>>
>>223667207
Ghost Busters is the best movie ever made, philistine.
>>
>>223664729
Oh fug yeh more brains :DDDD
>>
>>223667252
It has a lot of scene extensions that flesh out the characters a bit more, and the original dialogue changes the tone of some scenes, but it's all magical. I've never seen anything like it.
It's like there's two versions of the film. The classic, and the hidden classic.
I am envious that you're gonna watch it because during my first viewing of it I knew I was experiencing something I'll always remember.

I won't even tell you one thing specific it's that good.
>>
>>223667207
I came away from the movie pretty messed up since anytime I saw fog or mist at a cemetery, I thought it meant the dead were about to rise. Seeing it when I was 7 was probably a bad idea kek, same with Robocop (seeing the melting dude also messed me up).

>Seeing it when I was 7 was probably a bad idea kek

Agreed, but when I saw it I was 11, still young enough to get scared to my core. That disclaimer at the beginning that said everything was real helped a lot. Thanks, O'Bannon, you magnificent bastard.
>>
>>223667289
I first watched it on a VHS copy as a 7 year old as well.
I think I knew I was watching quality cinema even back then. I even loved Part 2 because it was more rotld for me to watch.

I never was big into 3 all though I can now appreciate a small part of it (the very little we get with them in the city)
>>
>>223667295
>I gotta jab the jew where I can anon. It's how I get my rocks off.

I get it, but nearly every single video on the topic slams on the breaks and then it turns into a homosexual crime blotter, then it jerks back to the film and it's like whiplash.
>>
*brakes
Good lord, that one was my fault.
Btw I love part II as well, but I do not pretend that II is a work of art that the first one is.
>>
>>223667321
>I get it, but nearly every single video on the topic
Oh sorry, I dont watch any reviews or talk about ROTLD generally because there is nothing they can say that can make me feel any different about the movie. It's best to just stick to the director/actor dvd commentaries on your favorite stuff.
>>
>>223667306
All of it stuck with me for years. I never told my parents how it messed with me, so they have no idea how freaked out I was about cemeteries for a long time. The "This is a true story" bit also got me.

>>223667317
I saw ROTLD 2 when I got a little bit older and knew it was all fiction, and I liked it at the time since it was definently aimed at a very young audience but I don't think it's held up well when I watch it as an adult. It feels too goofy.

>I never was big into 3 all though I can now appreciate a small part of it (the very little we get with them in the city)
Yeah I didn't like it the first time around, but it did get me into alt girls at least. I think it's a very mediocre movie and is overrated by fans of the series.
>>
>>223667321
>every single video on the topic slams on the breaks and then it turns into a homosexual crime blotter
What reviews are you watching man? None of the videos on it I've seen were like that, most were just retrospectives or talked about the production process.
>>
>>223667348
But Anon, some of the uploaders have interesting things to stay, then they derail their own video to make sure that the viewer knows that they totally definitely and for real condemn what Brian Peck did and that Brian Peck is as bad if not worse than Adolf Hitler, and it gets tiring, but occasionally there's a diamond in the rough.

I mean, I read all you guys's posts.

I've already said it a million times in the past but the reason ROTLD part 2 is awesome is because they are traversing an abandoned zombie filled city and no other movie does it.
>>
>>223667306
>That disclaimer at the beginning that said everything was real helped a lot.
Also talking about Night of the Living Dead in the movie and saying that was a true story with altered facts was an absolutely kino touch.

>>223667391
I've seen two or three on it and I've yet to see anything weird like that. I'm pretty content with having seen those videos too, I doubt there's much more discussion worth looking at beyond that on YouTube. I would like to see more about the shitty 4 and 5 movies though but it seems like nobody wants to touch those even to make fun of them, I've seen a few people flat out say they couldn't finish the entire movies.
>>
>>223667359
>All of it stuck with me for years. I never told my parents how it messed with me, so they have no idea how freaked out I was about cemeteries for a long time. The "This is a true story" bit also got me.

>>
>>223666360

>>
>>223667410
Kek that was me but in my parents car. There was a cemetery a few blocks down from my house and we'd drive by it on some evenings, so I would also feel a sense of stress and dread every time. I used to think during rainy or stormy nights "I live too many blocks away for them to get here, it will be okay, there will be a way to stop them" to cope with it. I'm glad I grew out of it and didn't end up traumatized of some shit since now it's pretty funny how freaked out I was.
>>
>>223667283
Thanks
>>
>>223667403
If you take Part II for what it is, a comedy, a goofy one that is "safe" then you have a blast, but if you expect a copy of the original, you'll be disappointed.
Btw the DVD sucks. That voiceover is all wrong sounding and the revamped soundtrack eats.
Gotta go with the original on the VHS, Laser, or Blu-ray.

I saw the workprint a long time ago and it was pure kino. It's charming how rough some of the editing is too, as some of the cuts between scenes are really rough. It's on the current 4K release now as I recall but the only copy still existing was some old BetaMax rip from an editors son or something like that.

It's surprising no others did this. I think the only slightly close equivalent might be Night of the Comet, but that had a very different type of "zombie."

Yeah a fair bit of empty city stuff. LA is a total ghost town except for zombies, some being highly intelligent and others being maulers that have no intelligence, as it's a progressive thing. It has plenty of scenes of absolutely empty Los Angeles, surrounding suburbs and also a big shopping mall sequence which is pretty infamous. It's absolute kino.
>>
>>223667408
>Also talking about Night of the Living Dead in the movie and saying that was a true story with altered facts was an absolutely kino touch.

OH, it's one of the best parts of the entire flick. You can just sense the fear he's putting into Freddie. James Karen just knocks that out of the park. As soon as Freddie asks Frank what the strangest thing he ever saw, you start feeling bad for them. It's scary because that's how real scary things start, people talking and sometimes someone takes something too far.
O'Bannon was such a genius. I hate that he's dead.

>I would like to see more about the shitty 4 and 5 movies though

They're worth a cheap laugh in an MST3K way, but aside from that aspect they're trash not worth paying for. For me it ends with III, which is its own art. I got a ton of respect for III, mostly because Mindy Clarke is a great actress. In a just world, she'd win an Oscar for that performance.
>>
>>223667516
>mmm I need a dvd version of 2 still for the dvd commentary. there's gotta be a good version.
I have the original DVD myself and actually only watch it now with the commentary, it's pretty funny knowing behind the scenes stuff and how they shit on some of the writing and effects. I had no idea the soundtrack was gimped, maybe anon is confused with ROTLD 1 since that had a thoroughly altered soundtrack and has 3 different versions
>version with theatrical original soundtrack and normal voiced zombies
>version with new soundtrack and down pitched zombie voices
>version with new soundtrack and original zombie voices
It's really dumb.
>>
>>223667516
The Blu-ray should have it all, but if not, I can see owning the DVD as a curiosity. It's been suggested by more than one tuber that its release was a fluke of sorts, I'll let you get into that minutia yourself.
>>
>>223667518
Thank you. I've probably never seen it because the name doesn't catch me. I've heard of it before but Night of the Comet sounds like a 50's style title for a movie and I disregarded it mentally.
>>
>>223664022

>>
>>223667536
>I had no idea the soundtrack was gimped, maybe anon is confused with ROTLD 1

No, that anon here, and nope, in fact, I'm fully restoring the original because Scream Factory failed again. Pretty good, but a failure nonetheless. As for II, the Blu-ray has the original rocking 1988 soundtrack.

>As soon as Freddie asks Frank what the strangest thing he ever saw, you start feeling bad for them.
Sometimes I've wondered if I try and bullshit a co-worker by retelling the story and pretending it's real. I doubt I could land it as well as Karen did though.

>O'Bannon was such a genius. I hate that he's dead.
His kino will live on thankfully.

>They're worth a cheap laugh in an MST3K way, but aside from that aspect they're trash not worth paying for.
My thoughts too. I've seen some of it on YouTube and I have a friend that did watch it in full once, but he turned off 4 after about 20 or 30 minutes and never wanted to try again. I recall the rights and masters for it went for sale on eBay some years ago too lol.

I legit have never bought a bluray or owned a bluray player. I stopped with dvds and just went full piracy otherwise.

The film's effects are fantastic, the zombie cab driver still looks great. But nothing beats the witch from the original Pumpkin Head, she's in the movie for like fives seconds and whoever did her makeup work should be eternally praised.
>>
>>223667555
For the sake of my sanity, is ROTLD 2 on Blu-Ray the normal untouched soundtrack and the only movie that did get altered was ROTLD 1?

As far as I knew as well, there was some collectors edition that came with multiple audio versions and I thought one of those was the actual original version. What's the difference that's still wrong from the original theater run? Is it just one song or many still?

>>223667567
No question. I only post on here and /mu/, that's enough for me.

>>223667571
It's worthwhile. There are some great releases out there since a lot of DVDs used shitty masters while the blu-rays had new scans from the original 35mm. One great (and irrelevant) example is the Frasier blu-ray set, the quality compared to the DVDs is night and day as a result of the new scans.
>>
>>223667569
Hah there's no way a grown man is going to believe that story unless he's legitimately retarded. Freddie said it himself in the film:
> Heh! That's impossible!
>They showed zombies taking over the world!

But if you dare try, try not to convince but get this, 2-4-5 Trioxin is based upon 2,4,5,-T Drioxin and it was agent orange. Now, also consider that the U.S. military has a real battle plan drawn up for just in case zombies arise.
>>
>>223667603
>Hah there's no way a grown man is going to believe that story unless he's legitimately retarded
I work with some zoomies that are fresh out of college, so I think it's possible I could trick at least one kek. My idea for the retelling is to make the story just a bit more contained and not mention NOTLD at all.

>has a real battle plan drawn up for just in case zombies arise.

>For the sake of my sanity, is ROTLD 2 on Blu-Ray the normal untouched soundtrack and the only movie that did get altered was ROTLD 1?

Yes and not quite. Yes, the Blu-ray for Part II is untouched in the soundtrack department, as far as I know, but Scream Factory has a bad habit of making mistakes. I'm buying the Blu-ray and will report later, but I have watched an alleged rip and to be honest, it would appear that it is not quite as original in the sound effects department, or maybe I need to alter my own personal setup.
As for Part III, there's an R-rated version and an uncut one. I have both of those and both are untouched, such as they are. The R-rated version is obviously "cut", but it is the real original cut version.

>>223667599
>As far as I knew as well, there was some collectors edition that came with multiple audio versions and I thought one of those was the actual original version. What's the difference that's still wrong from the original theater run? Is it just one song or many still?

If you're asking about the 1985 original it's like this, two songs are toned way down, one scene has dialogue brought way up, one song is missing on every release except for a U.K. Blu-ray which has all the original music.

So how to get the original for real? From me. Before Halloween I will upload the real restored original online because I happen to have all of the original high definition elements available to buy. The Laserdisc, the 1985 CD soundtrack, the 2002 MGM DVD, and the 2025 re-release of the 2022 4K.

I think so. No real details have ever been released. Personally I feel that only God or Satan could make a dead body operate and that it's quite impossible.

With the zooms, I'd just leave the facts that 2-4-5 is loosely based on that real chemical I mentioned and that there's an authentic battle plan. heh

>>223667665
Thanks for clearing that up on the soundtracks. As far as I knew II was unedited, but I knew that the first movie was a total mess on having the original soundtrack. I have the UK Blu-Ray of ROTLD 1 so I guess I lucked out by getting the original soundtrack version then (I'm pretty damn sure it also doesn't have the pitch shifted zombie in the ambulance but I'll need to check).

No probs. As frustrating as it's been, there's been a cathartic aspect to it. It's forced me to learn more about this wonderful film.

>>223667696
>It's the glow in the dark cover right?
That's the one!

I'm basically using the 4K for the picture, duh, but the soundtrack is tricky because I refuse to add my own mix. It's a restoration, not a desecration. I realize that a Laser-to-Blu won't work directly due to frame differences leading to drift in the soundtrack (I tried years ago and failed), but for shorter moments, it won't matter, but for sure the entire thing cannot simply be overlaid. It's going to be like surgery.
>>
>>223667718
But the end happens on the 4th.

I feel good knowing that you're going to experience pure unfiltered genuine draft cinema, man. I'm going to watch the workprint again in the next few days it's so darn good.
>>
>>223667724
>only found out it was glow in the dark when I went in my closet one day and was like wtf.
Yep same as mine then. I also only found out because I left it out once and the cover was facing up rather than just the spine on the shelf as usual.

>>223667727
>As frustrating as it's been, there's been a cathartic aspect to it. It's forced me to learn more about this wonderful film.
Same, I've ended up doing this with a few films. Perhaps the most frustrating thing Iv'e gone through is getting original color grades of movies since some remasters seem to fuck with them and put blue filters on or other shit. At least with a soundtrack you can just make a fixed version yourself.

>That's the one!
Very based. I guess it must've been the very first DVD release then.

>I realize that a Laser-to-Blu won't work directly due to frame differences leading to drift in the soundtrack (I tried years ago and failed), but for shorter moments, it won't matter, but for sure the entire thing cannot simply be overlaid. It's going to be like surgery.
it's doable but tricky, as is anything that's a labor of love.

Needs better resolution, but it still rules. And speaking of witches, Angelica Huston in Witches was also an A+ back in the day. Pumpkin Head is generally underrated, but just the first one, it goes downhill quickly after that, like most horror.
>>

This isn’t performative for normal people. It’s just an accepted fact. Are you actually trying to claim that people are actually cool with pedophilia but everyone is just virtue signaling?

>I guess it must've been the very first DVD release then.

I think it is. What's funny to me is that I don't even hate the altered versions, especially that one. I see them as choices. To their credit that song from the F.U.'s aka Star Dawgs Young Fast Iranians does sound a lot like The Damned "Dead Beat Dance." It's not like they didn't try.

You want more really fucking good zombies out of nowhere? The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy is a total ASS of a family film (unless you grew up with it), but aside from it being terrible, there's one small segment with some of the best zombies you will ever see.

Don't put nasty words into my mouth, Anon, no need for that. I already said what he did was a crime. Thanks for being uncool in cool thread.

Yeah I think it was a decent enough release, I think the only flaw with it was the down pitched zombie voices (which was badly done since you can hear the sound of the rain also change pitch kek). Being an autist can be rough sometimes, especially when it comes to changes to something familiar.

That's the best artwork too, the original poster art. That's usually how that goes.
Fright Night II is coming finally with a real 4K scan and some of the packages look too busy, but the original white poster is perfect.

I like you anon. I'll be interested to see if your fan edit appears around in a few weeks or months or whenever it's done. Damn this movie is so good, I think I'll probably end up watching both the original and the workprint this month.

Hmm I'll have to check then, I don't have the DVD or blu-ray on hand right this second but I'm very damn sure he slips, falls, and then quickly gets back up to continue the chase but moves a little awkwardly. That's how I remember it being since I first saw it.
>>

thanks, man. It means something and it helps keep me going. This thing is coming before Halloween for sure. It has to. That one has two main themes strangely. One done with male vocals which is good and from the first film. But the version with the female vocals from the second is the GOATED sleazy 80's vampire song.

if that version doesn't have it the human brain is a piece of shid.

Negative. Not that I've ever seen, but maybe there's an oddball release out there. I know enough not to dismiss it out of hand, but it's nowhere to be found outside of the workprint to the best of my knowledge.

It depends. I'm pretty sure they got totally evaporated at the atomic level and the workprint has an extended ending that explains that all the radioactive dirt is loaded up onto train cars and left on a disused line of rain in South Dakota. That can also be considered the canon ending too if ROTLD II is considered as being canon.

800. The director made each actor make a backstory for their characters even if it didn't make it into the movie, and in Jerry and Billy Cole's backstories, Billy had been assisting Jerry for 800 years.

I think the first movie takes places over a few weeks and it seems to be that he doesn't need to do it every night, but at least once every week or two. Or for all we know he does a lot of it for fun and excess, with it being the 80s and all that.

Yeah I know. I think seeing at least just a bit of that would be fun, and I guess what could stop it is the tracks just getting filled with the rotted parts or something. But if it was the intelligent kind like ROTLD, they'd just dodge around it and it's pretty easy to think some former military zombie would know exactly how to get inside and get to the operator pretty easily.

Based on the zombie movies I've seen the guy in the tank would be some sort of Dale Gribble paranoiac prepper who would instantly prove incompetent by getting scawed and driving the tank into the basement of a building killdozer style. Then he'd crawl out of the tank and limp away and his pants would fall down then a zombie would pop around the corner and rape him.

>>223668276
It's the tank crew's fault for leaving the hatch unlocked.

You are now aware that western tanks, even going back to the 80's have had their own Bitch'n Betty robot voice, just like jets, to automatically warn crews about the hatch being ajar or shit like low ammo and such.

He even whistles "Strangers in the Night" before he attacks Charlie in his room. So I think it's exactly that. He was the coolest vampire ever.
The Lost Boys is a classic too, but its vampires are...well they're cool too, but not that cool somehow.
>>
>>223668321
It could be some damn neat shit, but I doubt we'll ever get anything like it. The intelligent zombie thing always stuck with me after seeing ROTLD and it's what made it scariest to me, since even in the very first movie they use radios to draw in more people just to get them. So something with zombies that are highly skilled from what they did during their time alive would be some properly scary shit.

And I agree, 4 and 5 should be wiped. I remember the news story about the rights going up for them and the author recommending whoever buys them should burn the masters kek.

The Brits sometimes had a dude doing the robot voice in the past and nowadays the voice being male or female actually preferential to pilot/driver and is essentially an app that comes with the hardware.

Lost Boys is such a mixed bag, it feels like it implies for a long time they're not actually vampires until it finally shows them in the cave (and even then, a cave?). Still a good movie, but it felt like it had bigger ideas that were constrained by a small budget.

The rights went for about 20 or 30k I think, so 250k to wipe them out is a more than fair price kek. You really have to wonder who would buy them since that's enough money where it could be someone actually serious about doing some kind of re-release unfortunately, unless it was some rich super fan that bought them for the novelty. I would've honestly burned them if someone had paid for the price of the rights and put an extra $500 on top for me.

I had an 80s German car for a bit and while it didn't have voice, it had a computer screen in the dash cluster that would flash messages about things like if it was cold enough that the roads could be icy, the lights were left on, low oil etc and it would have an electronic chime play to alert you. The chime used to make me anxious as fuck since I knew the message it was telling me to look at wouldn't be anything good.

My guess is it was probably a few hundred thousand for the entire production, so I'd probably guess he got maybe 20-50k for it at the most. I've never seen any budgets online but considering it was for some made for TV movie on some obscure channel, I doubt they gave it a million or more.

Sort of. From what I remember hearing, they dig you up but they just bury you deeper and the next person goes on top of you. But in some other cemeteries, such as one famous one in New Orleans, inside those mausoleums they come back for you after about a year when you've rotted away and just toss all your bones into a pit at the back with the rest of your relatives to make way for the next coffin.

Oh maybe I read wrong in the past, could have sworn I thought it was somehow legal to do. Because literally everything is money based.

When occupied graves are dug up and resold in the U.S., it is a major criminal offense. The most infamous case occurred during the Burr Oak Cemetery Scandal in Alsip, Illinois. Cemetery workers dug up hundreds of historical graves, dumped human remains in a remote area, and illicitly resold the plots to make a profit. The workers were convicted of felonies, and the incident led to strict state and federal calls for stronger oversight.

Also in my state it's illegal to bury an adult corpse (babies go under different rules for some reason) without a vault for ground integrity reasons. You can't have the graveyard killing all the visitors from tripping over sunken graves because the coffins either rotted or shifted.

Money. My dating life wasn't that great because my game stunk back in dem days. The dark times. I had fun though. One time I worked on a weekend with just one other guys and we looked into the records of how people died and found some amazing shit. Things like,

I don't know if all cemeteries are like that, but ours had a room with files piled high. Yes, it really was haphazard from what I saw of it, but the cemetery itself was kept immaculate.

>I worked in EMS myself and dealt with a lot of pretty crazy shit, thinking of some of that shit still bothers me greatly.

Dang. It sucks when you get information you didn't want. Getting depressed is no good either. What a rough job. To me the two jobs can't even compare because the dead are silent. Never once did I see any paranormal things out there. Kind of a bummer really.

>To me the two jobs can't even compare because the dead are silent. Never once did I see any paranormal things out there. Kind of a bummer really.
I suppose so. Maybe it's more comforting to think that the dead don't just stick around where their bodies are and are actually out existing on some other plane of existence.
