6 yes, it's important stepping stone in Star Trek lore. 5 if you want to see something so bad its great.
>>
>>223687208
5 is great for lots of reasons but mostly you should be in awe of shat's ego. It's not even a bad movie, decent TOS episode with a ton of kino. 6 is amazing though, it's up there with wrath of khan.

Danube-class runabouts have warp. I would hit the space road forever. You could just cruise around in safe Federation space. Get a holosuite on board and you're golden. Put it on cruise and larp until you hit your destination. I hate Jesus because Star Trek isn't real.

Mirror, Mirror was another episode I caught from the H&I marathon. Bixby did the right thing by having Kirk & Bones immediately realize the situation so they could spend as much time as possible on Terran Empire shenanigans instead of gradually finding out what happened and where they are. Spock's beard being the first giveaway was genius too, but I do wonder why he decided to grow one in that timeline and not in ours.
Marlena is such a great character, how is it that we've gotta go to the Mirror universe to get a woman who has her own agency without being inherently villainous. Like sure, she's a concubine to power, but the Power is the imperative here, and she's quite merciful as far as Imperials go, letting Kirk subdue M!Sulu on his own instead of also Tantalizing him. I skimmed the wiki article for this episode and found out that they planned on having the Device send people backwards in time so Shatner could show up in an ENT episode having been stranded on a planet for 30 years, prior to the timeline split. I would've assumed the split wasn't so literal and that it was just 2 parallel universes that were perfectly identical up until the divergence point. This is the 2nd cool idea for the show I've heard about being neglected due to its early cancellation. Where was I? Oh yeah, it's a shame they never do anything with Prime Universe Marlena after this episode's coda.
The best moment of the episode is the finale, where Kirk save an entire universe in just under 3 minutes by convincing Mirror!Spock to become the prime mover for revolution. It didn't hit me the first time because I wasn't as good a Spock-reader as Jim yet, but that last line "I shall consider it" is delivered with such gumption that you can hear "It shall be done."

I honestly like the design, Im just not a big fan of the color. Most of the other federation ships look like they flew into a cloud of Mass Effect greebles and the Klingon ship really give away how the show was changed from an original ip into Trek late in production. I just can't believe that the show was always going to be Star Trek, nothing about it looks or feels anything like Trek at all. At least it got retconed into a weird alternative reality so we can just ignore it like pretty much all of nu Trek. Id like an Eaglemoss miniature or something if it came in a different paint scheme.

The design just explicity belongs in the TMP era. They really should have just kept it as the Titan.
In hindsight it's obvious the whole contrived refit/design change happened purely for the sake of this particular desigb ending up the Enterprise-G. Matalas's audacity kinda disgusts me

I love how sleek and clean the Federation ships are, but Star Wars is way more fun to roll up your sleeves and work on. The hero model for the Millennium Falcon had copyrighted parts from Porsche and Ferrari kits glued to the side that they can't legally reproduce so there are entire lines of car kits kept alive just because Falcon purists need to buy them to glue an engine part to the side of their screen-accurate model.

If you stray too much from the Enterprise A and D then things start looking daft so Trek is fun because it's about precision, it's about the skill to land an arrow in the center of the bullseye not just once or twice, but every single time. Star Wars lets you kind of just get drunk and high and start fucking shit up and no matter where the road takes you, it'll end up looking like something from Star Wars.
>>
I'm thinking of doing a regular non-upscaled laserdisc rip of DS9 and voyager but it's gonna be super high bitrate relative to the resolution. Like 1+ GB per episode. There is just so much grain detail in the source that gets chopped to shit when you cheap out on bitrate. It will look way better than the DVDs though.

The Star Wars models were way easier to build than the Federation ships for the star trek movies. The Refit Enterprise model for the Motion Picture took forever because it had to be perfectly smooth for filming the close-up spacedock scene, and the paintjob they put on it was a nightmare to film because it was so reflective, they had to film it in low light to avoid the reflections, which is why it looks greyish silver in the movie, when the model in person looks white.

Yeah they also used pearlescent paints in different intensities and patterns so when the light shimmers across the surface it looks like there are panels. I find the way light bends and reflects fascinating so I'm like a retarded baby looking at jingling car keys when I see shiny paint, I just sway back and forth laying out trajectory lines the light is traveling in my head.

There's a company in Spain that makes the best color shift paints in the world, Green Stuff World. The application is so thin and can be used either by brush or airbrush, and the basecoat underneath dramatically changes how it shimmers.
A light grey base coat with a layer of Pinky Blue would be like perfect Federation colors.

According to Memory Alpha (quoting the DS9 tech manual) they have a complement of 1500. The crew density of Galaxy class ships is already crazy low, a D'deridex must be almost entirely uninhabited.

Some amount of space is just cargo storage, really huge equipment, and so on. There's also probably a ton of unused space to be filled in by refits later, or used by Romulan marines, colonists, refugees, whatever. But yeah, they're pretty big.

That's where you go if you fall into the black hole that powers the ship. Which incidentally probably takes up a good bit of the internal volume.
