i said I'm watching salem's lot.
You're no farmer
>>223700301I wonder why those earlier color TV vampires were always green
>>223700398>In The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, Count Frightenstein’s green skin is a comedic design choice meant to visually emphasize that he is an unconventional, "black sheep" vampire>The introductory theme song read by Vincent Price even explicitly references the look, opening with the famous lines: "Another lovely day begins, for ghosts and ghouls with greenish skin"This is what google said but it could just be making all that up
vroom vroom
Watching this
>>223700301I think it is safe to say Vincent Price is the most far reaching horror guy in audience. But who would be second?
>>223700506Christopher Lee. Cushing.
any horror movie that has a girl or girls farting? doesn't have to be relevant to the plot. like maybe she is getting silly with her girlfriends and pfffft 'eww tiffany that STINKS' and then they all laugh or like a girl gets so scared and instead of peeing her pants she farts revealing her location...or a even a pussy fart during a raunchy unnecessary sex scene? films from preferably before 1990-91 please.
>>223700459it wasn't just this show, though. like right when the transition from b&w to color had just happened lots of vampires were green instead of the later on more common pale/white. don't know why.

>>223700519Are you counting non horror works for Lee's audience reach?
>>223700498
>>223700546I actually enjoyed NotD remake, it kind of had a Freddy VS Jason sort of atmosphere. Hard to describe it exactly but it's a fun movie.
>>223700545Yeah, that's why I looked it up. I thought maybe there was a technical answer having to do with color tv at the time, but this is the only thing I could find about The Munsters>Because the series was filmed and broadcast in black-and-white, the makeup choices had nothing to do with color TV technology, but everything to do with how early monochrome television cameras captured light and contrast.
i like it when vampires are kind of blue. or purple
>>223700577I think it's just because I like the original a lot I judged it more harshly for calling itself a remake. But if looked at as a stand alone entry or more of a sequel, it was enjoyable.
>>223700634Not a vampire, but here's a blue barbara steele for you

>>223700860Did you laugh?
>>223700860I definitely think it'll do worse than Nosferatu because it doesn't look like there's any sex angle to it. Nosferatu/Obsession/Substance... new horror needs to be about sex/dating/relationships to resonate with normies.

>>223700908Did you like Resident Evil?
>>223700860
>>223700931yea. I think movie adaptations of books (or video games) are best when it covers theme and tone rather than directly adapting source material. It fit the Resident Evil feeling. I think understanding Cregger's timing from his other movies helps too. He does that thing where he plays scenes out a little longer than normal to the point where it's awkwardly funny.
>>223700767Yes it is good. It even has a cameo from Quigley in it.
>>223700301Who here Monster Squad?
>>223701012wrong webm, my bad
>>223700981I liked the new RE but I honestly would've preferred a straight adaptation. The movie we got could've been called Zombie Video Game and it wouldn't have effected anything. I'm the type of guy who wants Super Mario Bros (2023) not Super Mario Bros (1993), and superheroes to wear costumes that look like the comics. I don't get paying for a property to then just make up your own shit instead anyway.

Didn't need to painstakingly show every step of how they arrived at the events of the first two episodes for the next 8 episodes, but whatever. The actor playing Michael did a pretty bang up job. Think tonight I shall watch Brandon Cronenberg's "Possessor"
>>223702162Murder House was just soap drama shit, with the daughter still being wet for the bad boy, even after everything he did, while the dad gets shat on. Asylum is a mixed bag, as one of the main male characters gets a surprisingly good outcome, but the others get burned hard by the lesbian girl boss. Coven basically designates men as pets. Freak Show is "we need to be better men" tier. Hotel was plain sociopathic all around. But Cult made hating men to be a central plot point. And Apocalypse was not that much better.
>>223702241Straight up forgot Roanoke. It was very matriarchal.
modern shit seems to be a palate cleanser from the usual or unknown classics i feast on around this time. so what is this Weapons and Barbarian director on about? one of those is on the menu tonight.
You now remember Doom Asylum
>>223702286weapons is better.
>>223702306Where are their clothes!?
>>223702306Yeah, it's posted in every thread. I've got the blu ray on my shelf.
>>223702286I'd personally recommend Weapons over Barbarian. Barbarian starts strong, but falls apart after the prologue. Honestly both of them are just "okay". Going to see Resident Evil tomorrow to see if that one exceeds his preceding works.
>>223702315The Doom Asylum took them!!
>>223702326Different strokes. I liked Barbarian more and thought it was more original. Resident Evil was inbetween them for me
>>223702326ok. weapons it is. btw i watched a stream of resident evil as a larp not knowing it was the same director. was genuine fun i actually chuckled at some point but in the end it seemed too short. like 20 plus minutes could have easily been added.

>>223702418An amazing experience. Questions are being answered like never before. New mysteries are being revealed. This season is crazy.
>>223702896lmao
>>223703003does she reveal her big mysteries?
I enjoyed it. It was very good. This is very much a case of art disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed. It's overhated. It respects your time. The real mother is not a good person and not framed to be one. The daughter is helpless and is just getting by with what family she does have. People getting hung up on the jumpscares or mad that the marriage hasn't immediately dissolved are midwit and don't understand how messy of a situation this is to be in as a child. The movie isn't about the mother, it's about the daughter.
Finished Hokum. This guy keeps writing the same story over and over. This time he rewrote the second half of Caveat. It was quite good. I'd recommend this film and skip Caveat and Oddity entirely.
>>223703003something mysterious is happening in my pants!!
>>223703220Yeah, his movies are all "someone gets murdered and then the murderer faces supernatural revenge"
>>223703143glad you liked it, I loved it. I'm truly baffled by the negative response to it, but I just finished watching Grace Randolph's box office breakdown for the week and she says the movie ends on too much of a downer(!) and that that's why people are rejecting it. Haha, part of what I loved about it was that it always seems to do the opposite of what a normal horror movie would do, and I guess we're seeing why horror movies don't usually do those things, kek

>>223703429a confusing overlong slog/vanity project. I know it has its fans, but I can't imagine what they like about it.
alright just closed the tab after Barbarian was done. 4/10 movie. very summer 2020 /pol/ discussion coded though so no doubt the director was in those threads especially the ones with the underground tunnel maps through Michigan going into Canada. movie needed to explain the purpose of the underground birthing. seemed like just a lark instead of food for our reptilians overlords or whatever.
>>223703541a pattern I'm seeing with these guys who start in comedy then jump to horror is they just come up with ideas or scenes they want to see and then cram them all into a movie whether they really fit or not. I don't know if they mentally justify it by pointing to Italian horror, but Cregger Peele and Barker's movies are fundamentally nonsense (I do like Cregger and Barker)
>>223703541I hated it and yeah the politics were obnoxious."Gender flipped giant retard" was a terrible reveal and I was checked out afterwards. God I wish it would have been lizard people.
Just finished thisWhat a weird movie.I don't think it's necessarily horror, but Cronenberg did find a way to put in a couple disgusting body horror scenes. It was good though, Jeremy Irons is a great actor

>>223703579indeed. ideas are there but the timing of them are eratic and ultimately too messy leading to loose threads evrywhere and a mirage of a story. i guess internet normies finding all these contradictory clues in the nonsense like it's the work of fucking Kubrick is what this shit is about now. Ura Horror was kino. Even though he pulls out some Koji tropes, there was a bunch of unique stuff in there.
>>223704195This woman does not look like she'd be fun to have sex with. :(
>>223703579>>223703688Barker's horror takes after Hour of the Wolf and David Lynch stuff. The Chair and Warnings are deliberately surreal like when you're having a bad dream. Milk & Serial tries to go for a more grounded approach and Obsession lands somewhere in the middle with Nikki acting like the girlfriend from The Chair. Some directors like Lynch, Refn, Nolan, Carpenter, Romero, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Cronenberg et al care less for story and characters and more about making stylish mood pieces which sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Nolan is probably the most commercially and critically successful director in history from this school of thought because outside of Inception his stories do not hold up on repeat viewings and even that owes much of itself to Total Recall which has the better story and characters, and though he's never directed a horror film like the others, perhaps not entirely coincidentally he loves watching them and you can tell from some of his movies. A lot of action/horror/thriller/comedy directors put mood and vibes first, story, characters even sometimes logic second, sometimes a distant second. Storytelling and character depth is not what these genres typically excel at, though you can find great stories and characters within each of them, they're few and far between by design but it also ironically makes them the most cinematic and popular genres of all though they also tend to be less critically acclaimed on average for those same reasons.

>>223704272>that kind of Mixtape Screenwriting has become accepted by the modern horror creative community. It's pretty much always been like that. Every negative opinion I've heard about OG Suspiria comes from people who didn't like how it was entirely about mood and vibes without a coherent plot but I love that movie for its rich style and dark fairy tale vibes but at the same time I can also understand where they're coming from because every director I just mentioned are very hit or miss for me horror or not. Like I love Drive and The Neon Demon but absolutely hated Only God Forgives and Too Old to Die Young and the only Lynch movies I genuinely enjoyed were Eraserhead and Blue Velvet. I think that's also why Ring, Cure and Audition are the only J-horrors I liked since they usually tend to be these slow atmospheric mood pieces which I don't always jive with but when I do they're some of my favorites.

>>223703205awoo watch this toothnight
>>223703269>>223703143I figured they were gonna do the whole "the dad is the true villain" schtick.
>>223703205I wonder why the thing about seeing the person you're going to brutally murder actually marked before you go werewolf mode doesn't show up in more werewolf stories. It's one of the most interesting and spookiest aspects of Wolf Man.
>>223700301Has anyone seen a recent movie called Obsession. I thought it was just okay. Lots of over acting that was amateurish. The scene with a billion dollars was out of place, it should be been cut, it was like a subpar Disney film.
>>223706542Another chance for me to talk about how the cat somehow opened the medicine cabinet, then opened a bottle of pills, then OD'd on them.
I watched both Cat People. Solid 7/10s.
>>223706275>Does the tweest have something to do with her autistic kid she won't shut up about? It's more or less spelled out near the start, she is being forced to relive the same events over and over because she refuses to come to terms with the fact she was a terrible mother (when she gets back home at the end she sees her original version beating the kid), in every loop she gets her son killed in a car accident on the way to the pier, every time she's had the chance to stop the loop she's refused and tried to redeem herself to show she actually loved the kid and wants to save him
We haven't gotten a new Hellraiser movie since 2022 - so when's the next one coming? At this point a sequel to the reboot seems unlikely and that planned HBO series is dead.
Just watched Hokum.
A reminder that The Exorcist is NOT a horror film, according to Blatty and Linda Blair.
>>223706542>>223706598>The scene with a billion dollars was out of placeBarker fought to keep that scene in because the producers thought it was too comedic but it wasn't supposed to be funny at all it was a visual metaphor for Bear being so close yet so far from getting everything he wanted>Another chance for me to talk about how the cat somehow opened the medicine cabinetWhen Bear puts the pills back in the cabinet he can't fully close the door so it must've fallen out on its own somehow and the lid wasn't fully sealed since his grandmother just recently died before the movie opens.
LEAVE ME ALONE>Fucking swings an axe in your back for talking to him
>>223706366Millais is 11/10. Love that nigga's work.

>>223707041>the lid wasn't fully sealed since his grandmother just recently diedHow does the lid not being sealed have anything to do with the grandma recently passing?

My fellow anons, what decent /hor/ flicks have hit VOD aka torrents lately?
>>223707435She was also Frankenhooker
>>223707440>V/H/S/Mixtape>Insidious Out Of The Further>Onslaught>Last Chance Motel>Ghost Light>The Nice OnesLots of crap.
>>223707507That should do it, appreciate you spooky fren
>>223707507Did any of them stand out to you?
so i watched Weapons last night as other anon suggested. it was...eh..neat. however...and again this is back to my previous comment that i left with the tatse of hack in my eyes...why the fuck wouldn't the police or other parents in the town/neighbourhood check their cameras/cctvs to track the kids direction? that is a major plot hole which distracted me the entire time and ruined the tension which was executed pretty good. best part was easily the homeless fenty kid followed by the Harrison and Nilsson tunes. 5.8/10.
>>223703862You must be fun to be around
>>223707760the witch had powers that were corrupting the whole town into irrationality and their vices. she had more than the plant thorn powers as shown with her astral projecting scenes.>Marcus's food indulgence (candy at his school desk, buying more sweets at the store, all those damn hot dogs)>Gandy's alcoholism>Paul with cheating on his hot ovulating wife and police brutality>Jame's drug addiction and burglary>kids mom and dad letting distant relative to stay during at home hospice>Archer stealing paint from his job to vandalize Gandy's carNobody acts competently because of the witch's parasitic hold of the town. Gladys is astral projecting and in their heads every night. The child protective services and school bought the weak story about Alex's dad having a stroke.
Can i get some horror SEQUEL recommendations. Please no meme shit like>bro the fifth movie is so goodor>there is no bad sequel movie in the franchiseSo far i have exorcist 3 (skipping 2) and that nazi zombie horror movie sequel. The collector sequel was good too
It’s already been 10 years since this shit happened?
>>223708571The Devil's Reject if not seen yet
>>223708183nah i'm not handwaving that all away with "the witch is overpowered" trope.>marcus is and fat candy is a vice and a trigger distraction from his deep shame of being gay>gandy was already a drunk whore with d.u.i. before gladys arrival>hot wife who is a controlling bitch (phone call at his locker) probably a dead fish fuck compared to wild justine who deep throats and uses her kegels>drug addict was already a drug addict and does drug addict things>the father was rational while the woman insisted with her faulty emotional based reasoning. >archer was angry (that emotion validated at the meeting)and lashed out in the petty emasculated way men are forced into these daysthese are all common everyday everytown occurences. this was a national crisis as heard on the radio station blurb does the witch control the entire nation? the town looks at their own footage but doesn't think of collaborating together to trace the kids direction was a major plot hole.now if you want to go into the proven fact police forces and their higher ups protecting 300 year old occult superstars like gladys and thus policing lightly around these very real possession cases then sure...but the director never goes into that or even hints at it.
>>223708571The Conjuring 2 is pretty good.
>>223708571TCM2 is groovy
Why, Cochran? Why?Do I need a reason? Mr. Kupfer was right, you know. I do love a good joke. And this is the best ever. A joke on the children. [evil laugh][silence]But there's a better reason. You don't really know much about Halloween. You thought no further than the strange custom of having your children wear masks and go out begging for candy.[ominous music]It was the start of the year in our old Celtic lands, and we'd be waiting, in our houses of wattles and clay. The barriers would be down, you see, between the real and the unreal. And the dead might be looking in … to sit by our fires of turf ... [silence]Halloween. The festival of Samhain. The last great one took place 3,000 years ago and the hills ran red... with the blood of animals and children.Sacrifices? They were part of our world. Our craft.Witchcraft.To us, it was a way of controlling our environment. It's not so different now. It's time again. In the end, we don't decide these things, you know. The planets do. They're in alignment. And it's time again.[silent defeat]The world's going to change tonight, Doctor. I'm glad you'll be able to watch it.[eerie music on TV]And… happy Halloween.[leaves room]
i am here to recommend The Devil Rides Out with Christopher Lee and Charles Gray.

>>223705388I enjoyed this movie, got a lot better when you reframe it as "Stubborn cuntish woman who made her boyfriend kill himself refuses to take responsibility or accept help"
>>223709061yeah, whatever it meant itself to be that's how I read it. it's about a woman imagining threats that aren't real because she's both paranoid and a bitch.

I watched a few horror flicks this weekend to get into the Halloween mood>The Innocents (1961)Really good ghost story, the atmosphere is peak for the Halloween season.>Flesh For Frankenstein (1973)Not nearly as good as Blood for Dracula, the lead girl in this is ugly as hell and its far too plodding to be interesting. Udo Kier looks great in each scene though, his costuming is fun.>Night of The Demons (1988)Pretty tame horror flick, it tries to be raunchy and funny but most of the time its bad actors delivering poor exposition. Decent idea though, it could work with a better cast/director. >Thirst (2009)Not necessarily horror but an interesting vampire flick from Korea, oddly horny too.>Fright Night Part 2 (1988)I wanted to like this so much but ultimately its pretty lame. Chris Sarandon is iconic in the first film, they can't really compete so they expand with more vampires. They are all interesting (werewolf vampire, psychic vampire, sex vampire) but the leader of them is a terrible actress and her style is laughably bad. It also ends pretty abruptly.
>>223709267woman literally eat shit in it so....
>>223709267Part 1 isn't a bad mad scientist movie and isn't as gross as its reputation. 2 is an aggressively disgusting attack against humanity overall and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. 3 is trying to be funny but its mostly just shrill.
>>223709373does that make it worth a watch...?>>223709395thank you i love mad scientist movies. can i ask what is so abhorrent about 2
>>223709560it's going out of its way to try and be upsetting in response to people who said the first wasn't as gross as they'd hoped. it's lead character is a guy who masturbates with sandpaper and the entire movie is in b&w except for the shit and the blood, which are colorized. it's edgy to the point of being edgy among the edgy movies.

I just finished reading Legion and surprisingly the theatrical version of the film has a better ending than the book. It really seemed like the latter just took a bunch of shit and threw it at the wall in the last 20% of the text then selected the only half-baked idea out of the shit to roll with. Like I initially didn't care for how Father Morning just shows up with an exorcism in the movie but even that was better than the anticlimactic Swiss cheese of the book's ending. I don't hate the text but it's really only worthwhile if you enjoy the character of Kinderman and his philosophical musings.
>>223707407If you didn't understand what the purpose of showing that Bear kept trying but failing to fully close the door of the cabinet then the problem is you, not the movie. Pay attention.>>223707428Are you serious? How about the fact that it was obviously used by her recently otherwise the cat likely would've died a lot sooner? Jesus what is wrong with this board.
