Standing tall on the wings of our dreams.Rise and fall something something wind and hail, we our bound for better days. This is my life this is my dream. Nothing is gonna stop me now.I actually recall that this show was actually a spin off of The Jeffersons via the elevator operator.
>>223701916I only know of this show via The Leftovers
>>223701916>Don't be ridiculous!
QRD?
>>223704035A regular guy is suddenly visited by a backwards foreign cousin he barely knows, and he's staying indefinitely. Wacky hijinks ensue. Eventually, their friendly neighborhood cop, Carl Winslow gets his own spin-off show.
>>223704126>Eventually, their friendly neighborhood cop, Carl Winslow gets his own spin-off show. Then after a couple of seasons a bumbling nerd took it all over.
The deeper lore reveals Balki would go out at night to break into single women's apartments and violently rape and murder them. The clues are scattered throughout the seasons you just have to look.
>>223705411damn larry looks jolly as fuck
>>223701916It's corky and fun. I sneed it
>>223705469>corky
>>223705469Corky is right.
>>223701916Pure quinoa love balki and cousin larry
This is a go-to show to watch when I need to turn off my brain and enjoy some sweet sweet pap.
>>223705485Not his kid. Good chud bait though.
>>223705492>the mom goes on to be first lady of Waterford, Vermont
>>223704126It was really Harriet's show. She was the sassy elevator operator talking shit in every other scene. Carl only showed up occasionally.
>>223706040but carl winslow the character was like decades in the making, since he only ever played the one character.
>>223706335Yeah, he's in Ghostbusters and Die Hard
>>223706372i think the earliest thing i've seen him in was from the 70s. wolfen maybe? not sure if he was a cop or some other city guy.
>>223705423I always thought that actor disappeared but then I looked him up and it turns out he's been working steadily ever since. He just stopped being in things that I watched.
>>223701993Standing taaaaall on the wings of balls rise and fall on the wings of mah baaaawls!
>>223701916I unironically love Bronson Pinchot
>>223707553I was a big fan as a kid, and shitted and pissed my pants with joy when he was in The Langoliers and Beverly Hills Cop. I didn't see True Romance until I was a teenager, though.
>>223701993One time my coworker brought up Perfect Strangers and I went >“hey I know that show! Perfeeeect Straaaangers…” and that was not at all the theme song
Were these guys gay or something
>>223701916Is that the one with York?
>>223707583It's>YOU TAKE THE GOOD, YOU TAKE THE BAD>YOU TAKE THEM BOTH AND THERE YOU HAVE>PERFECT STRANGERS
>>223707587Distant cousins. Balki came to Chicago from a fictional Mediterranean island called Mypos where he herded sheep, and moved in with Larry. Larry is kind of morally dubious at time, and Balki's naivete and general sense of good nature counters it. They got chicks in the second season or so.
STAAAAAANDIIIIIIIING TAAAAAAAALL
>>223701916kino sitcom, this was my #1 favorite as a kidit felt like i matched my life, i was slightly neurotic and just wanted a quiet normal life but i had a carefree weirdo friend who was always getting us into trouble
>>223705485>>223705492kek(hated that show tho)
>>223707643Larry was kind of a scumbag without Balki's moral anchor, though.
>>223707625I remember in the last few seasons they married these broads, knocked them up and moved everyone into a big house. It was still basically the same show but they had different problems to solve.
>>223707670only because he feels threatened by everything around himthat's [american] city life
>>223705492That sister making a black lingerie tape for her bf chad lowe awakened my puberty.
>>223705492I thought that was this show. Fun fact, the dad here is only 35
>>223707750And he's got more hair than the underages on 4chan.
>>223707750Was that the Growing Pains spinoff? I kept mixing that up with Eight is Enough.>35jc
>>223701993Actually Family Matters was the spinoff from Perfect Strangers from the elevator operator. Perfect Strangers was it's own thing.
>>223701916https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xq0KmfKqwY
>>223707625right is hot
>>223707750And it was canceled for this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFJ6yq_xxv4
>>223707976It was a common archetype pairing. Get a model hot chick, then a quirky kinda cute chick who has better comedic timing.
>>223707977god damn the one thing i don't miss about the 80s was the "dirty sneakers" look
>>223707750Dude looks like current year James Spade
>>223708013Look?
>>223701916>>223704126I remember watching this show with my grandma. I used to get confused because I thought Balki was pronounced like Belks and that he was related to the store somehow. This show used to give me an ominous anxiety because the apartment they shared was laid out weird, the back off you rarely if ever saw, but it was as if stuff was happening back there you were intentionally not privy to. I also remember the lighting in the apt was off, as if you couldn't tell if it was night or day but it always seemed like it was night and everyone else in the world was asleep. I don't think I ever saw them leave the apartment either which added to the anxiety. Later on there were typical rumors online that the show was about a gay couple, I remember reading this and faggots acted like everyone knew, or that it was common sense, then I started thinking about how that guy's curly hair reminded me of Ferris Bueller's sister's hair and how similar they looked to me, and I began to file this show as a real life horror movie in my head, like some unknowable photograph falling through darkness of time and space. I think it may have aired during or before that Unsolved Mysteries show and that show's unsettling everything would bleed into it.
>>223708422>because the apartment they shared was laid out weird, the back off you rarely if ever sawThe back of which. I really hope this wasn't a thing. Where the backrooms weren't shown because that's where their bedrooms were so the sick fucks in TV wanted to leave the implication there.
>>223708013damn why was that a thing? bizarre
>character is supposed to be vaguely greek and balkan>his name is balkidid rowling write this?
>>223707977You'd never know Heather was washing down coke with a fifth of vodka nightly
>>223708497Research was harder in the 80s. Most normies had never heard of the internet, and you'd have to go to a library to find out shit about the Mediterranean. Pulling shit out of a hat worked.
>>223707750Wtf is that pink font all jittery? I'd love to know the psychic toll writing or acting on insta cancelled sitcoms had. Must feel like your entire family died but you only knew em a half a year. And you can't talk about them to anyone.
>>223708483Everything was more expensive, so you had to make sneakers last, and since most were white, they would get dirty easily if you were active.Post cold war, we have chinese 10 year olds cranking out cheap sneakers in a Shanghai sweatshops.
>>223707643Portion of viewers suspected Balki was a covert spy
>>22370762535 million americans tuned in on the reg for yet another irresistible crumb of mypos lore
>>223708629It was considered a "cool" thing to have dirty sneakers cause it implied you were active and sporty and not a consumerist. Same with ripped jeans, they sent a message of "yeah I'm 2cool2gaf, i'm busy doing cool shit, a yuppy like you wouldn't understand", and obviously those quickly became a fashion statement of their own.
>>223701916>they tried to remake this show starring two black woman and the fish our of water angle was they lived in two different parts of the same city
https://youtube.com/shorts/vAD6AKB_bHo
>in the 80's Balkis character in Beverly Hills cop was more sassy then faggot>in the latest movie he is a full blown faggot
>>223708948It was writing. Petrie wrote Serge as some random faggot that Foley humiliates regularly, but Bronson Pinchot rewrote him. Axel F likely gave him less creative room.
>>223708948I have literally not watched a film made past 2001.except the first john wick, that was ok
>>223708982Here's a good'un.
