I watched the new carrie show. You know, I was actually likiing it all the way up to episode seven, it was a modern take nade for tv, nothing particularly bad, Margaret's social media arc was actually prettty good. And then episode 8 hits and it goes to super shit, it was both terrible as an individual episode and a fundamental misunderstanding of the story, holy shit. Why would you get the rights for carrie and completely fuck up the prom scene because you want her to basically be innocent? It's a good thing people have been shitting on its ending nonstop because holy shit it was even worse than expected

>>223711863eh personally I don't really care to see a big school shooter wish fulfillment massacre at this point. I also think people are overstating this whole no agency, innocent thing. she still brought down that catwalk that killed Tommy, she still made the choice to surrender control, she still brought the ceiling down on mom and I would argue was largely culpable for killing Chris. Can I ask why you think it's so imperative she be some kind of killing machine monster, what's so integral to the text and theme about that? is it because you crave a cathartic revenge fantasy?

>>223711961WAY to completely misunderstand the themes of CarrieIt's not a wish fulfillment massacre, it's about a bullied kid who becomes a monster and murders innocent people in a rampage, because she wants to.>nd I would argue was largely culpable for killing Chris.Dude, she literally said no the moment Emeline did it.It IS a problem beacuse carrie did not want to do anything she did in the series nor did she have an actual reason to do it because she was NOT being bullied or a social outcast for most of the series and was stupidly well adjusted>what's so integral to the text and theme about that?Literally the whole point of carrie>oh I consented to someone using my body (and don't know she's going to murder everyone)is VERY different from>I murdered everyone>and my mom>and myselfThe only thing she actually did was blow up the phones, which was a good start, but the tv show carrie would have stopped there which is why they needed the piece of shit character known as EmelineAnd having Flannagan's wife give carrie's speech, to her mom, as she kills her was the shit cherry on top of the shit cakeIt was terrible through and through

I disagree with how you characterize her emotional state and turmoil in this one as well but let's keep it simple and drill down on the essential theme you feel has been molested cause you kind of just described what happened and said 'that's the point' which is circular. the point is it's bad that she killed a bunch of people? really?

Sinister (2011) = Good atmosphere, only one of the scares got me but it got me good. The Thing (2011) = Pretty mid, the effects don't really hold up. Prime MEW almost saves it.The Thing (1982) = Still a classicTeen Lust (2015) = Some good laughs, the acting was pretty good. The Fog (1980) = Pretty great but I always felt that the ending feels rushed. The Fog (2005) = Not as good as I remembered, the fog effects still hold up. 1408 (2007) = Great flickSoul Survivors (2001) = absolute nonsense with the only silver lining being the occasion scene where Eliza Dushku shows up for a couple of minutes, then the rest is watching a blond girl have a mental breakdown.
>>223707019Friedkin and Blatty claims they didn't set out to make a horror film with The Exorcist but a film about the mystery of faith with elements of suspense but funnily enough Friedkin actually ended up changing his mind late in his life and admitted it was a horror film due to public perception and how the genre had evolved so much from back in those days. In one interview he said compared to your average horror film in those days it simply had too much humanity and heavy themes to be lumped in the same category as all those monster B-movies from his and Blatty's generation. Linda Blair more than likely got her opinion from them because she's the only one of them who calls it a thriller and insists it's not horror to this day.I know some of those hardcore horror fans with their insatiable bloodlust and distaste for anything that doesn't involve a masked man stabbing a bunch of dumb teens to death think it's a boring film but if there's one thing you can't argue The Exorcist is, is the thrilling kind of suspense. There's nothing exciting about watching Chris and Regan suffer so much in the film, it is purely horrifying and Blatty was too clouded by his unshakable faith to understand how other people might perceive his story as being horrifying. Death of the author (RIP), he was simply wrong, like how Tommy Wiseau thought he was making a serious drama with The Room but it was so terrible and unintentionally hilarious to a majority of people who watched it it also became known as a black comedy that he eventually leaned into that label himself.

>>223711783I would absolutely not recommend Phenomena before Crystal Plumage. Phenomena is probably my least favorite Argento (I've not seen anything past Opera and I hear there are some rough films in that period) because it can't decide whether it wants to be a 'proper' Giallo or a supernatural thriller. The thing with the bugs is pointless and the actual monster + culprit is just 'okay'.Argento's early stuff outside of Crystal Plumage is pretty standard but I still enjoyed stuff like Four Flies more than I did Phenomena.Deep Red, Tenebre, and Opera were all lots of fun though.

>>223714634what? we're talking about Naked Lunch.Naked Lunch the "novel" is unfilmable, it isn't even a novel. Burroughs took pieces of writing he had laying around and assembled them at random into a "book". (He and Bryon Gysin developed a technique called "cut-ups" that utilized existing pieces of writing smashed into each other at random without purpose, and that's what NL was on a large scale.) Cronenberg "adapted" the novel into a movie by taking parts of it, taking parts of other Burroughs novels, and true events from Burroughs' life, and mixing them into a kind of fantasy noir story. Naked Lunch isn't really based on the book Naked Lunch, it's based on Burroughs entire body of work and his life.

>>223710147I was scared of the Blair Witch Project
>>223714862like I was trying to say, NL doesn't really have a story, it's just a collection of what Burroughs called his "routines" interwoven with his life story. If you don't know Burroughs I imagine it's nonsense, and if you do know him it's kind superficial. The movie's like a book report about an author instead of a successful adaptation of his work.>>223714843Mishima definitely fits, I'm sure there are lots of others but only one I can think of off the top of my head is Dreamchild about Lewis Carroll. I haven't seen Finding Neverland, is it anything like that?
>>223714174>>223714862>Cronenberg's whole filmography is on my watchlist nowyeah well I'd say Videodrome should be next
>>223710147I kinda feel like I'm without /hor/ sin. I'm good at this.>sin of... Pride!haha, too bad.
>>223714984>>223714990You’re homosexual
>>223714984>VideodromeAlready seen it and thought it was great.I think The Brood is next for me
>>223710260Sexo
>>223715029NICE
>>223714564>>223714628True I mean I get it I just wish people could be a little more open minded about it sometimes. Maybe you didn't get the experience you were hoping for watching a horror movie but someone else might. That's why I prefer to think of it more in terms of themes and atmosphere not just going by my own feelings. Sometimes great horror can still come from not rigidly adhering to the same few tropes all the time.
did Cregger cast Axe-man's dad as the closest looking guy to Trevor?
Slashers are shit
>>223715029I think Brood's a little weak - he was really going through it with divorce at the time. but don't let it shake you off his other early works Shivers and Rabid
>>223715112hehheh, the irrepressible anger at women is part of what I liked about it, lol
>>223715112It's the opposite for me desu Rabid and Shivers are really rough around the edges compared to The Brood
https://youtu.be/QKhdjq3Ct6wThis looks fun.
> I wrote her name inside a heart on the window with my finger. Then I wiped it out but it was still visible if you looked close enough.

>>223715331I mean realistically being psychic is a bad power
Give me some suggestions for a trashy movie where women make a man's life a living hell. Watched pic related last night.I watched Vampyres last year.
>>223709953Below was surprisingly not terrible coming from Umbrella Academy guy. I'm glad some mainstream horror and horror-adjacent media are allowed to just get on with the plot again and not get dragged down by muhfeelingsslop and dramaslop like shit from the past decade.
>>223715497Play Misty for MeHard CandyThe Loved Ones
>>223715497Good lord that song they play 90 times almost made me rage quit.
>>223711400>Cornell 7They should all get Terrifier'd to death.
>>223715625DAAAAAAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAD
>>223715181Yeah Rabid barely has any cohesion to it. How does a skin graft create a vampiric orifice that infects people with super rabies?
Pretty solid, doesn't waste time with much drama because>59 minutesI was barely halfway into my popcorn
>>223711378I love Maniac Cop and AHE is cool (barring the extraterrestrial sequence).
>>223715697>Barre Lyndonman they took some creative liberties with that book huh
>>223715582>The Loved OnesThat's the one where the girl hosts her own prom at home, right? I think I've seen that one too. A long time ago.
>>223715742Which one? There's like 3-4 of them.I thought dark intruder was originally a Hitchcock film
>she's got Bette Davis' eyes~>google Bette Davis>Steve Buschemi eyesdidn't expect that
>>223715938But she got em
>>223714458More like what was the director's fucking problem. Andrzej Żuławski is looking up at us while Sam Neill is looking down at us.>In his autobiography, Sam Neill explains he was very reluctant to aggressively slap Isabelle Adjani during the kitchen scene and initially refused to do it. He and director Andrzej Żuławski (who Neill described as a very effective filmmaker but also a bit of a bully) argued over this until Adjani interceded, telling Neill, "Sam, you must do this scene. You must." Neill went through with the scene which took three agonizing takes. Neill was so shaken up by this action, that after the take, he went to the nearest stairwell, put his face in his hands, and wept for ten minutes.>According to director Andrzej Zulawski, after having watched the final cut of the film, Isabelle Adjani went straight to the bathroom and tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists with a razor. Fortunately, she tried to do so by using a common two-blade razor, which are designed to prevent accidental cuts.
>>223714345Suspiria was both a supernatural horror and a giallo and it worked pretty well, Phenomena was just a repeat of Suspiria. Worse but still good and different enough to stand on its own imo
as far as I know, this is the only Columbus Day horror in existencehttps://vimeo.com/16012572
>>223716036but it's ok when Kubrick does it

I watched this expecting another goreslop from Rob Zombie, but this is actually a quite decent horror film.
>>223710147I enjoyed the 28 Years Later (now) duology and I never watched Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
cool world building bro
>>223710147Father, forgive me... I was very underwhelmed by Frankenstein this evening. Is Dracula better?
>>223710946Its my top "comfort movie". Love it.
>>2237104497/10 to me is above generally good. 7 is great but not amazing, IMO. That's not too bad a score, anon.
>>223717410i think it's mainly down to personal taste which one you enjoy more but the two are mostly the same level of quality. the invisible man clears both
>>22370995310 movies to go til I've seen 1000 horrors, lads. Recommend your favourite deep cuts or pre-70s bangerinos.
>>223717567That's next, I think. I've seen some 40s shit I loved, same with 50s, and obviously beyond is full of great shit. But the 30s is a blind spot for me despite having read and loved most of those stories as a kid.
I just watched Longlegs, it was bretty gud
>>223715837Yeah, it's pretty good shit
Watched Messiah of EvilNot bad. Bit of a slow burn some times, but decent overall. The 3 main women were pretty hot.
>>223717673Kind of a let down for me, but I liked the bizarre tone throughout. What's your favourite "schizo" horror in this sort of style?
Resident Evil was pretty alright for an action comedy horror. This Nu-Justin Long (Austin Abrams) was alright. Have a shot every time he says FUCK.
>>223717713Not sure if it's really the same style, but maybe The Grapes of Death
>>223717652I'm just trying to watch stuff I haven't seen before this year.
>>223717727Fuck that, anon, that's like half of his dialogue.
>>223710147I have no interest in doing a movie marathon with my friends this year like the last few years we've done it also I keep putting off watching Takashi Miike movies
>>223716161Kubrick's also looking up at us too. Shelley Duvall's looking down at us.
>>223716036That's a normal lad, a bit of a dick, and a crazy broad. Why would you anhero after seeing it?
>>223717974He is such a cuck

>>223717673Women were simply more attractive 50 years ago.
>>223709953Anons please share recommendations for horror movies with copious amounts of full frontal female nudity. Here are the ones I've seen already:>Nightmare Sisters>Lifeforce>The Return of the Living Dead>Night of the Demons>Evil Toons>Delirium: Foto of GioiaIf your recommendation has Michelle Bauer you get bonus points.
I am watching Hellraiser Bloodline
>>223718092Species I guess?
>>223718092Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (Michelle Bauer is on the cover there)Sorority House Massacre 2Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (Michelle Bauer also)
>>223717727the concept of the movie is genius>the backstory of mutant boss that we would never see in the game - but leon would find his voice recorded message to his girlfriend before he kills him
Just finished Dominion: the Exorcist prequel. Not a bad idea, although it is another rendition of Beginning. The cgi was awful, I bet Skarsgaard will bear it as a sin in the same way Father Merrin carries his past in occupied Europe. But the most glaring issue with the film is that it features a jewish character, present in the story and setting. Isn't it like saying "the jewish religion is wrong, christianity is real and therefore the only thing that can battle Satan, whose existance is also another proof that judaism is a false religion"? I mean that if I were jewish I would hope someone would get fired for that blunder.
Evening Fixbros
>>223718175I've seen Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama it would go great with Nightmare Sisters as a double feature. Been meaning to watch your pic related.

>>223718781>I've been watching horror comedies and 80s cheeseWhat ones? I want to fill out a list of candidates for the rest of the month.
>>223718856Good picks. I think The Woman In Black 1989 is creepier though.
>>223717260I miss mid-budget kinos starring actors who seem like they actually care about the role

>>223718833>>223718856I've seen these and the original Woman in Black to boot>>223718960I watched Basket Case and Brain Damage, which were awesome. I guess now I look dumb because those are the only films that fit the criteria I mentioned. I also watched Thesis, Crimes of the Future, Obsession, and a Serbian movie called The Enemy. Crimes of the Future was fucking awful and only saved from a total waste of time by Lea Seydoux's naked tits
>>223719130Jacob's Ladder?
>>223709953Just finished the Carrie series. It’s fucking F A N T A S T I CANTASTICFor anyone who hasn’t seen it, I very highly recommend it.

I don't know why Mad God was listed as a horror movie, but it had lots of cool creatures so I don't mind it as a Halloween flick.
