I wonder how needed it is to post about some films like picrel on lost media forms to maybe get a new release made or something of an effort for the directors cut to be found

Definitely watch it, not just because it's part horror but it has an apocalyptic feel to it like zombie films. You should have at least one alium/sci-fi film in your list.
I'm gonna watch The Astro Zombies at some point.

This movie SUCKS. It's so uninspired and derivative that every scene that isn't a scary scene feels tedious, and most of the jumpscares are so predictable and unimaginative that anybody who has previously watched 5 horror films in his lifetime won't even flinch to them.

the problem with RZs munsters is it feels like a 2 hour tv pilot. It has no real plot arc or tension and the last section somehow feels like the start of another film.
I still liked it though, the visuals and sheer earnestness of it all works.

nta but nah not required for SHMII, it uses a few shots from Slumber Party Massacre in a flashback, (not Sorority House Massacre which is a laugh). But imo the films in both series are kino and tits are guaranteed no matter what you pick.

>>the visuals and sheer earnestness of it all works
yeah, this is really why you watch it. it's fun and sincere and it looks really good.
i think maybe he thought 60 year old munsters fans were going to watch it, so he made it with the expectation that you already know all of the characters and what they get up to in the show, and you dont need much more than to just see them fall in love and move into the neighborhood.
>>
>>223725538
It's a prequel to the TV series.
>>
>>223725657
>>223725671
imo the best thing to come from it was Jeff Daniel Phillips hamming it up as zombie in this skit. I have no idea what it's for, I think just marketing material lol. but it's a good halloween watch.

What a great fucking movie. Can barely believe century old kino can be so watchable. Also will all due respect to Kevin Bacon, how can they not have topped this character, performance, and costume in all that time? Epic Universal Monster. Was keen on the Dark Universe just for him.

Also how did Dark Universe not happen considering Mummy wasn't THAT bad. At worst it was like meh Hulk movies trying to kick over the MCU early on.
>>
Just watched the original Little Shop of Horrors.
It was okay, but I thought the last 15 minutes or so really sucked. The plant hypnotizing Seymour was an asspull that ruins Seymour's entire arc of going from a victim of circumstance to a self-serving accomplice to the plant.
And then the police chase is a terrible climax. Boring and drawn out, and then Seymour confronting the plant is a measly 20 second scene because the prop isn't capable of doing anything but opening and closing.

Watched the Director's Cut of Nightbreed tonight, it turns the film into a genuinely good dark fantasy film instead of the wannabe slasher that the studio edited the theatrical version into. As cool as Decker was as an antagonist, there was no fucking way David Cronenberg was going to come back for sequels like the studio clearly was hoping for.

It's also insane that Barker was able to make this movie look as good as it does on $10 million, it looks like a movie from a major studio from the time that would've cost double or triple that.

Oh lord this was awful. The title grabbed me, but then the ONSCREEN title was "Mac-D Versus The Space Rodent", and I immediately knew shit was going to suck. I'm sure you won't believe me, but even before any human characters showed up, that title told me "oh Mac-D is somebody's improv character or a comedy duo or something that they wrote this movie to showcase like they were Harold & Kumar" and wouldn't you know it, that's EXACTLY what the fuck this is. Have you ever watched some indie ensemble comedy that feels like an Empire Records clone and knew that the writer was at some point at his job and thought "wow, so much funny and interesting stuff happens at my job and it's got so many wacky characters"? The only thing worse is when you can tell it was just a guy hanging out with his buddies who thought "we're so funny and charming, they could make a whole movie about us!" This is the latter, so incessantly in love with it's own horrifying sense of humor and feeling like they wished they could be *podcast era* Kevin Smith. How low is that? It's a white Harold & Kumar meet Critters and it's excruciating.
>>
>>223726281
these guys drop constant Goonies, Die Hard, and Say Anything references and their sense of humor is reddit incarnate. I was in pain.
they've got a kinda legit mulatta in a skimpy halloween costume but don't take advantage of her enough.
Like half the movie is shot as very cheap day for night and it's physically taxing to look at.

Shout out to the anon that recced me this last night. In a subgenre filled with filmic shovelware, this is easily one of the better horror FFs out there. Not only did I find it quite tense with some decent jumpscares, the main actress was super cute and reminded me a lot of fellow English rose Daisy Ridley. I found it interesting how she was beyond compelled by a magic stone to descend into hell on earth and brought others along with her every step of the way, Virgil style. There's no way I would've gone into that catacomb but I'm glad it had a happy ending.
This afternoon I'm seeing TCM on the big screen at Regal, like many others here I assume.

Wasn't really Bacon's fault, he gave a good performance. Hollow man was actually pretty decent, but Verhoeven focused too much on making it an action movie, all the interesting stuff was before the movie devolved into the generic hollywood stuff

It's not really a spoiler. He didn't actually reveal the shocking ending. And yes you should watch the original first and both the "Of The Dead" and the "Living Dead" series. They go different directions splitting from the same origin. Some of the Italian copyright infringing series like Zombi are pretty okay too.

Take a wild guess, famiglia
>Fascism is frequently analyzed by political theorists as a political "death cult"—an ideology obsessed with destruction, martyrdom, and the aestheticization of death.

The 1981 sequel and the 2009 reboot of the 1980 movie have earned a 27% Tomatometer score each. hahahahaha, I wasn't going to bother explaining, but since you asked
a movie is fake. it's actors and special effects and prosthetic makeup and music I can physically hear and blah blah blah. words on a page evade all filters and go straight to becoming images in my mind; in this way, it's the same as them "really" happening, lmfao. A woman getting carved into pieces on a wooden table in a book is just that, in a movie, it's a woman remembering lines and puppeteers manipulating severed limbs and lighting guys making sure you don't see the stitches and everything. In a book, it's just the woman and the carving.
When I'm in the mood for it, it's fun strong stuff, I loved that 'I Love Alex' Modern Family fanfiction that used to be around.

>AHS: 1984
Surprisingly the WORST season I've seen yet. A real clusterfuck of murdering going on, but none of it felt supernatural, even with a servant of Satan (again) and the very tired "everyone that dies here becomes a ghost". Originally the trapped ghosts was a somewhat unique aspect of Murder House, then they applied it to the Hotel Cortez, and now they said "hey, why not?" to Camp Redwood. And despite all of these ghosts being around, only one bothered to show up for the first 7 episodes, but did absolutely nothing. At this point, it feels like people becoming ghosts is just the writers' method of saying "eh, who cares if someone dies? here they are again!", same with the witches' method of retrieving the dead by various means.
I got zero indication that they had a clear vision for what they wanted this story to be from the outset. I am surprised to say this, but I've been missing the "b-plot" to these AHS stories that they cut out since Cult. Also, I just plain don't like Leslie Grossman. She's gross, man.
