>>223738650>You like DIGGER? I Love em, I LOVE EM.
After watching it for the second time today, there are a few things up i really i picked up on better than the first>you can see a bunch of smaller points where Curtis is reacting to the exaggerated moments of farce. for example, when his mom makes a loud belch early in the movie, in the second viewing, its obvious that it is Curtis (and not Digger) who is pissed off at what is going on>this one is obvious, but at the very end when Curtis receives the phone call while he is playing Digger and just totally breaks characters while his in-character nephew is talking to himI think with the various twists and turns, there were lots of tiny things after each twist that I also just missed because i got too caught up in thinking "oh, cool" when a new twist happened.>the big speech actually cuts a bunch of times but there are some cuts that are probably 2-3 minutes or so, maybe, including the one where digger gets bushedprobably the biggest thing i really took note of is how the EU MPs are these nameless, faceless cunts who all look the same -- this was obvious on the first viewing -- but the moment that the magistrates stand up and tell them to be quite, they follow the rules and sit down and shut the fuck up.another thing, which some people probably know, is the "bla bla bla" thing must also be a reference to Gretta thunberg and other climate buttfuckers using that as a catch phrase many years ago.
>>223738524but it kind of feels like it's too late to see it within the next 100 years at least, and we will never have an apocalypse, things will just continue to get increasingly shitty. the disaster happened to them 20 years ago and they're still living it's just shitty... everyone's wishing for a big bang but no one will ever experience that. i like that we got robbed of seeing what IRL judy was like. it didn't even feel preachy to me and i hated don't look up. reality is mundane
>>223738687You watched it twice in one day?
>>223738687meant to say nameless, faceless, [...] ornery cunts. but they fall right in line as soon as they are told what to do. and then finally they burst out fighting against each other like a bunch of impotent cucks.
>>223738701someone pointed out the cuts in the play were made after sandra huller's scenes so the half-sister may have had her scenes diminished, hence her looking dour after the scenes would end, and overacting. imagine you show up for a rehersal and the man who bought your script waltzed in and was making live edits to rob you from lines. i want to rewatch it and focus on huller. kenny is so interesting
>>223733655At least it's clearly intentionally grey and washed out... unlike modern capeslop.
>>223738712i phrased that weirdly -- i watched it once today.however, i went back to try to buy a ticket for the showing after, but it already started, and the fucking ticket purchase didnt let me buy a ticket and the guy at the door wasn't offering to let me enter. so i wanted to see it twice today back to back but didnt succeed.

>>223738687>breaks charactersAre you just referring to him trying to talk through his ear piece? Or that his lines to Kyle/Kenny is a break in character too? I heard someone say the kid's was named Kyle in the play (I thought the old lady screaming Kyle just misremembered for dementia reasons). I realized Curtis was the one to fuck up by using the real name 'Kenny' instead of 'Kyle'.
>>223732929The audience is literally for the lefty edgey chuds.
>>223738687I want to rewatch it and pay attention to moments where Curtis wouldn't actually be visible by the audience, making me wonder if it's part of his performance or just his actual emotion. I think one definite instance of this is the scene where Ganesh is giving his speech in the EU and Digger is looking at the screens with videos of people getting killed by the flooding. Another instance might even be the final scene where he's looking into the distance just before he gets the phone call and jumps.

It is honestly AGI's best English film. Haven't seen his Spanish films.
>>223738701the ending feels very doomer to me. at the end we see that capitalism still does its thing in this new shitty apocalyptic future. Everyone has fancy branded masks, and Curtis like people are still running the surveillance state and still managing the narrative, which the play most likely is and why Curtis made it. The ending shows that WE HAVE NOT CHANGED and are repeating everything that lead to the end of civilization basically

>>223738855I like that it's pessimistic but not in a silly exaggerated way. The world looks awful but people walk around, the city still moves and the lights are on. It resonates with me that the nightmare future we are dreading would just become normal and, when we get there, people would just stubbornly carry on as usual. Also couldn't help but wonder about the credits being sounds of nature, even after Level 4
>>223739010i would if my lame ass theater sold em. 30 bucks is a bit much, i've never bought a novelty bucket are they all like that
>>223738786This part, maybe its what you are talking about too (unless im misremembering it)hes standing on the rig before he commits suicide and having the conversation with his young nephew. I think Digger has just had the conversation with his nephew about if the ashes are his cat, or something different -- this has a nice little parallel with his moment with Ganesh about whether perception is reality, or just perception.Anyway, there is a phone call which Curtis seems to have received from his ACTUAL cell phone, because it has Curtis's ring tone, and this would have to be from his real phone anyway, since they lost phone reception on the rig, right? Its a very brief moment and we heard his phone ring, he picks it up, and just says a few things into it, like a confirmation, like "Yeah, uh, uh huh, ok" something like that. I assumed he found out his daughter was OK or got some update from Kenny's people. You can see that his in-character nephew, is clearly kind of confused about what is going on. Then, his nephew's mom (I think) starts calling him, off-screen, and calling him Kyle, if memory serves correctly, and then he leaves, and digger jumps off the rig. >>223738792oh, like places where only the viewer of the film can see Curtis, and the viewers of the play can either only see his backside, or can't see him at all?>>223739001man i want to be able to look at the script edits, and also the email inbox and desktop of digger, when i have the chance to pause and rewind

>>223739074fuuuuuck its so dystopian, the state is the one playing the fake nature sounds to the city lol
>>223739049also to add to the scene on the platform/rig,I am 95% sure that curtis momentarily uses his own voice and not digger's voice. so i think it's a moment where he is really so fixated on his daughter that in spite of everything he drops his character and talks to the person on the phone normally in the middle of the play. why? i have no clue. >>223739124im watching it in an eu country where, uh, i think how funny the movie depends a lot on if you know english well or not. i thought it was hilarious, but very few people have been laughing when ive gone to see it.
>>223739138the same song also plays in the opening where digger's dead animal mounts cover so much of the screen he's practically dwarfed by them, and a slave to his dying cat as well. i know i'm overhyping the movie now but when he walked under that giant rhino head, and stood in front of the deer antler mirror like in citizen kane i instantly knew i was seated for some kino.
I am gonna watch Digger a fourth time, MOTHER NATURE LOVEEES A WINNERI am really fond of the movie, only thing is some of the colors are a bit odd but I love it, always been a fan of Tom and i hated birdman but this movie is good, i love it.and yeah, interesting and far more correct take on climate crisis than others that have attemptedtheres this other sci fi ive read about climate change kind of had this a bit but the ending really does the "life goes on" that digger and well we will likely take, the future will suck and for the people in the movie it does but it wasnt extinction, it sucks but humanity goes on. its not all "good" given its some police state but you know what i meani am actually kinda sad about the reception and the online bullying and all that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHqlFANP1ZI
>>223739164He got a personal call on his cell phone during the last scene of the play. That wasn't supposed to be in it, but he likely neglected to turn it off due to the issue with his daughter, or the world had slid so far in this fictional future that even on stageplays, you bring your phone with you and take calls while performing, much in the same way that cellphones have completely invaded our lives today compared to 20 years ago when you couldn't use one in a doctor's or post office.

>>223739201as we talk about it I like it more and more. I didnt notice much of the parts where the play is being changed and edited as they work on it Gonna have to watch again.
>>223739164>whycurtis and digger have melded so much that we only ever see him in digger mode talking to his wife, mother nature is still beating both their asses, both curtis and digger feel lost in the overarching plot of the world and are found surrounded by people made to defend their personal beliefs. when curtis breaks character and is still applauded wildly, it also speaks to the fluid nature of the script - how much reflected real life, like what curtis was obsessed with? does it matter that all the scenes portrayed in fossil fools was true? in that moment, curtis and digger were the same exact person. this extends a bit to the actor for kyle (the kid). he broke character following curtis's cues. kids follow in their parent's generations footsteps into this slowly dying world. and still, everyone cheered and we never see anyone point it out in the screen, because the play was that effective in making the audience and theater performers feel placated, it did the job kenny wanted.
What were those blasts that trumpeted when Digger went to address the assembly? An homage tribute to War of the Worlds?
Underrated moment when Digger gets the climate scientist/environmental security dude to completely back down by simply offering to do exactly what he wants
>>223739317it makes diggers line about "im an actor, im a professional, i do this for a living" (or whatever he says) ironic. yeah, i think the point is that it kind of doesn't matter to anyone -- Curtis of all people should have NOT done that but he still does, and it makes no difference because everyone gets exactly what they want out of the production.

>>223739041I don’t think it’s as pessimistic or cynical as it might seem at first blush. The strongest film parallels I saw were to Dr. Strangelove and maybe Network. Strangelove is 100% cynical to the degree that it really does see almost nothing redeeming in humanity at all with the possible exception of the British officer character (who’s only a human character so that he can be sabotaged in the film). Digger feels strangely more humanistic; it makes the big loud caricatures, then it balances them out with a real intimate human story, then it bleeds into “the world is fucked anyways because we can’t change,” but then everyone comes together and is able to mutually grieve and digest what is happening together and there’s nothing that feels cynical about the fact the audience gets to enjoy things together for a moment in time. Cynical humanism might be the best I could give it in a phrase; seeing our collective inevitability to sin and cause harm, but loving our mutual humanity regardless.
>>223739840He directed that heist movie Widows and also Blitz
>>223740091>there’s nothing that feels cynical about the fact the audience gets to enjoy things together for a moment in timeI disagree, when I was watching the montage of the audience's reaction I was under the impression that the director had a lot of contempt for people who seek catharsis by watching a simulation of a billionaire kill himself. They get to feel good about it for a bit, but that's it. Then they go back to their pods with their masks and will own nothing and will be happy. Meanwhile, they paid money to the same family that ruined everything for them because THEY WANT TO (which is the entire point of Digger's speech - just keep pounding and pounding because nobody actually wants to give up their creature comforts).
>>223732929True
>>223740174Right, but I think more to my point was the people are also meant to be hated, yes it’s cynical that Digger’s nephew is further twisting the narrative to his own ends, and the powers that be remain the powers that be with no hope that they’ll change or even that consumption will change. But for whatever reason, I wasn’t left with the sense that we should feel contempt for anyone in particular, or for humanity generally, and more specifically of the audience (the audience as a character). A much more cynical film would have spread the blame and contempt to everyone; but somehow I just didn’t feel that way walking out, it was nihilistic to be sure, but there’s some expression of the love of people in there too. It’s hard for me to cite evidence to support it well though, that’s just where my gut sits. And that sounds better to me and makes the film more complex and interesting than if it were simply pessimist and nihilistic.
>>223740174This. The audience montage was in no way positive I think, its literally followed by the party down there and Kenny being just fine, getting some congrats, surveillance company works as we see and then all quickly and like routine get masked up back to dystopia. The part where they burn stages like digger's home iirc within the play to me ties back to entertainment itself also getting some blame. Industry and so on.

>>223740429>and like routine back to dystopiaJust like us when we left the theater. >>223740378I tend to agree with other anon though, there is hope and love of people in there too.
>>223738705>and i hated don't look up.bruh, that was legit kino like this movie.
>>223738705The contrast between this and Don’t Look Up is Interesting too. I think this didn’t feel preachy because it never felt like the director or writer’s voice was “wow I’m so much better than these people and so are all of the people who agree with me.” The top layer of the story said that, but that was never the real story and they make constant reference too. There is an actual director character who wants to act as a smug above it all cynical person laughing at all the dumb people she would have done better than, but she’s counter pointed effectively which leaves the movie to ask better questions.

>>223742462I swear to god its a conspiracy, a real won, to tank the film because it dared to expose what's going on in our oligarch new world order. Its a lesson to others to shut up and not even try and make something like this.
>>223742462I think it just highlights how vapid and shallow our entertainment journalism is, either because it's just designed that way or because the standards have dropped so low in the millennial era. Like these people are just not mentally equipped to process anything more ambitious or challenging than marvelslop, yet it's their job to and they can't do it. Megalopolis wasn't exactly amazing but that's another case where the entire film review ecosystem went in ready to hate it for no good or honest reason. The whole industry just can't support these kinds of auteur-driven epics anymore, not just the studios but the press as well.
In an interview in this month's Vanity Fair, actor Tom Cruise attempts to end, once and for all, rumors that he is gay.
>>223742462actually, my problem with the criticisms is that before the movie was released to us plebs, all i was reading was shitting on the director or saying he was low iq for disliking capeslop, rehashing "tom cruise is mentally ill" gab, rumors of it being a "so bad its good" musical, and i wondered what the hell is in the movie to make media preemptively try to bury it. the initial reviews stressed to not see it in theaters. i then watched a beautiful movie that at its worst will make people squirm and feel attacked that they are asked questions about the cycle of satire and real life events, who perpetuates and benefits from them, and i was confused. how come in an era where eat the rich movies are the hottest thing, did this movie get people so mad? it's not even an eat the rich movie, but from the way people talk about it, you'd think the entire movie was fossil fuels (laugh at the rich, not even eat them. no one gets a cathartic final blow on digger, the president even dies off screen). it didn't say anything new about our status quo. rich people are greedy is the most basic idea of all life. i'm not trying to overly glaze the movie, there are criticisms i understand and agree with, but the greater media is so fucking weird about it and i assumed tom cruise being funny old and fat in it would assauge their weirdness. it didn't.
>>223742462They snubbed Eddington so at this point not being liked by the establishment is a good sign.
>>223733706this.I think the twist in the end is just a ruse.to try and ease the right wing backlash.
>>223742462only the wokies/climate change lunatics are seething. cause of the rug pull ruse, that made what they are fighting for pointless.the right in both factions literally didnt give a shit about this movie, not even an attempt at a viral outrage
>>223743466did you think the ending was right or left? seemed like both/universal. everyone on all sides agrees this world is sick, their platforms depend on convincing one side is the cause, like how digger said it, everyone wants to play the blame game
>>223742462Tinfoil hat time, but I think the title of the film "Digger" was foreshadowing how critics would try to bury it.
>>223733417then you'll have to dig yourself. Become what you hate
>>223732929It had it's moments
>>223743497its a ruse for the right in itelf is for damage control.the main goal of the movie is to woke preach so either way they spew the bullshit out there regadless
>>223742522A day doesn’t go by where I don’t read a headline about ludicrous financial corruption in America, or an AI developer talking about how humans are worthless meat sacks who will all be killed by their tech, or another part of the world on fire, or another election going on to empower the cabal of people enabling all this. It is just astonishing how rapidly the world fell apart after COVID and how little anything is being done to stop it. Even a movie that actually brings attention to this is completely buried and ignored by the establishment. It’s just beyond question at this point that totalitarian cyberpunk is our future and our political system has utterly failed.
>>223734292the shoe throw seems like a pretty risk here
>>223743684got an alert on my phone today about power grid strain and possible rolling blackouts due to """""high weather temperatures"""""" while data centers nearby have been tripping breakers and running off diesel, everything is a joke. no one i know thinks they'll live till retirement and all my advertisements are polymarket or sports betting
>>223743734OHHH SAY CAN YOU SEEEEMeanwhile I just got back form a re-issue of GONE WITH THE WIND in theaters and I'm reminded we used to be a white country with morals, sophistication and grace but the union didn't want black slave labor and wanted to triple the souths taxes so they decided to ruin the country over it. Now we live in a technocratic dystopia.
>>223732929in 20 years this will be the biggest cult hit ever
>>223743766you were never white
>>223739322Air quality alerts like when the play ends, maybe?
>>223741301Doge is such a pleb that I'm not watching this
smart, nihilistic, and a wicked sense of humour
>Did you drink all this?>Not yet
Everything from the ill effects of AI, pollution, climate change are solvable through infrastructure and policies but that would mean forsaking gibs to niggers, spics and neets.Cancelling several multiple social programs, increasing taxes and limiting the sales of goods like cars and smartphones that are highly pollutant and have become ridiculously over manufactured. We would need to ban yachts, private airplanes and force communal transportation.Ban products coming from China, India and any nation without draconian environmental lawsPeople would agree on these but not the individual. Everyone is a greedy fuck.Republicans are all about cash, their platforms are for sale but Democrats policies have factually been worse than doing nothing and even in this board you will find people who genuinely believe democrats or their european equivalent are the good guys. The solace most neets have is that they believe they are smarter than the average goy and plan or dream about their suicide everyday because asking them to get off their asses is impossible. I am not asking you to pick an AR14 and shoot up a school or a church like a fucking ape. Just step out, go door to door, expose these issues and possible solutions and form groups. That would be a start and the one thing you will never do because it is easier to mop like a faggot, huff your own farts and pretend you are some misunderstood romantic when you are a fucking pussy, and you would be equally as laughable in any other point in time because you simply lack drive.
I thoroughly enjoyed Riz Ahmed's performance in this.
>>223744423>What's your drink of choice?>Barrel-aged rum>Barrel-aged rum... now how could I know that?>PFTT! This is whiskey!>As I said, how could I know that?Ganesh and Digger made a great duo

>>223742522It calls out the Thiel adjacent freaks and our complicity in their take over of our lives. Praise xenu
>It was a masterpiece.OK, dalit.
>>223742522Paid media has spent the past month falling over themselves to trash this film, convince people not to see it, and borderline delete it from history. It's psychotic.
Hey guess what? The RT audience score went up again. The Digger nation grows.
>>223742522>dared to expose what's going onOh yeah bro, movie lecturing about hecking climate changerino made by a leftoid, backed by massive corporation and 180 million dollars. Absolutely unprecedented, speaking truth to power and punching up.
>>223732929This movie is just one big woke virtue signal of "Eat the Rich Billionare" - the Rich Millionares.
>>223743497>seemed like both/universalYes, if you just accept leftist conspiracy theory about climate change as a fact.
Digger and Megalopolis are only really “political” because they both are very Brechtian but they both kind of disdain the idea that movies are really “activism” or whatever, like basically saying that it’s all a bourgeois enterprise reliant on the whims of investors. Like I would say that Digger was possibly “about” the Skydance merger, it was the last ever film by Warner Bros as an independent major studio, and Cruise clearly cashed in some clout to pull some strings and get it made, and there’s a character who is basically David Ellison.
>>223732929the wokies are trying the consipiracy baiting marketing.but failing hard.word of mouth of this being woke asf still reign supreme
>>223745394But it wasn't climate change, it was a tsunami caused by a piece of ice that exploded + nuclear waste
>I swear to god its a conspiracy, a real won, to tank the film because it dared to expose what's going on in our oligarch new world order. Its a lesson to others to shut up and not even try and make something like this.WALL-E is mogging this over-budgeted slop.
>>223732929In hindsight this movie its one big."Eat the western Rich Billionares" funded and profited by the western Rich Millionares.dude China has 1bilIndia has 2 bilMuslims has 2bilin population. The USA only has 300mil and they are not breeding.even if we wipe the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe combined.China alone will still continue to gas and trash this planet.
>>223745452Why, thank you Wesley.
>>223745396this poster knows ball.
>going to see Digger tonight>cinema has withdrawn the booking at the last minute
Kojima has joined DIGGER nation
>>223745464China is actually rapidly shifting to renewables. It's helping their economy, meanwhile we keep canceling and refusing to fund renewable projects. It's gonna cost us more.
>>223746038it's funny he had to officially post saying he loved it before schedule because press packets were saying he hates it despite posting at least 3 times about it before then, basically telling them to fuck offthey're really desperate
>>223739041the nature sounds reminded me of how they play bird noises inside some tokyo stations to reduce panic attacks.
I can't stop listening to Avian Elegy.

>>223741428Anon, today you’d have a hard time finding someone who’s read Alexander Pope or Pale Fire at an Ivy League college, much less on the 4Chinz tv board.
