do alcoholics really do this?
>>
>>223746696
Sometimes I wanted to, but after a while my body rejected it and I was forced to be sober for the most part
>>
>>223746696
I used to down an entire handle a day but unfortunately now I have to relegate myself to 4-5 beers a night or else I'm unable to come into work consistently enough to keep my job. It was depressing just getting drunk constantly and yelling at the wall in my apartment but it's somehow infinitely more depressing being semi-sober
>>
>>223746696
Absolutely yes.
>>
Yes. But I had to go the beer route. Sipping one now and ready for sleep
>>
Nobody would drink unmixed vodka like that. It's disgusting.
>>
No, you have to take care not to smash your stomach too hard. Booze fucks up your stomach and gives you indigestion and a sore stomach, real alkies pour shots and mix it up out of necessity. Straight booze can still make you choke and cough after a couple good pulls, even if you are used to it. It's an instinctual impulse.
>>
>>223746752
I used to drink a handle every 24 hours too. Bottom shelf vodka. Then I got a DUI and have been sober since 2017. It is doable, and the very worst of sober is way better than being an unreliable and dying drunk.
>>
>>223746795
Yeah except there's nothing in sober life that feels worth it whereas every handle always did, no matter how awful the withdrawals were. Realistically, I should've cut down way sooner and I'll probably be glad I did in the long-term but I still can't find any joy outside it now. The only reason I wake up is for those beers after work.
>>
>>223746812
You have to relearn a lot, but sober is honestly better. It took years for my perspective to correct. You will either get there or die a drunk.
>>
You cannot " just get sober bro" not how it works
>>
>>223746839
It is exactly how it works. You stop drinking. I have nine years sober and you make excuses and allowances to continue your shitty behavior.

remember, you're not an alcoholic if you don't admit it.
>>
>>223746839
You can if you haven't gotten the shakes yet. Once you have the shakes, it means you have taught and trained the body into thinking it needs alcohol to survive. That's when you need professional help and be put at a hospital.
>>
I may ask my pcp for naltrexone next year
Only 5 small cans of beer last night. One for the walk to the liquor store tonight.
>>
>>223746889
This. Also if you don't drink and drive, don't go to bars, and keep your drinking private nobody will think you're an alcoholic.
>>
>>223746913
Benzos help, but the very worst of the withdrawls up to and including DTs are over in like 3-4 days.
>>
>>223746944
Trust me dude they know
>>
>>223746696
The top 1%ers yeah. This was also not his daily routine but his first moment relapsing after like 2 weeks or whatever
>>
>>223746696
I was doing this about a month ago, only it was shit-tier Skol vodka
>>
>>223746839
It literally is, but being sober sucks, not just physically but spiritually.
Going through life like “hey I’m a degenerate who can’t just have a beer like a normal person without chugging 6 gallons of vodka afterwards and wrapping my car around a telephone pole” is sooooo lame. And from what I’ve seen most sober people make sobriety their whole identity and never stop talking about their addiction even decades later.
I’ve seen some people do it well but by far the most well adjusted people I know are able to drink, even to excess on occasion, and then put down the bottle and get up the next day and get on with their lives.
>>
>>223746696
ive done this. I had a little plastic bottle that I poured vodka into and kept it in my car. I'd go out to my car and drink during lunch break at work.
>>
>>223746913
You can just taper off and your body will adjust.

>>

The challenge is not drinking all the alcohol at once. If I have alcohol and I'm in a bender, im going to drink it until I pass out
>>
>>223747111
>>223747069
>You can just taper off
Not when you have the tremors. Then it's extremely difficult and can even kill you. Your body panics and can start to shut down if it doesn't get alcohol, because it thinks it needs it as much as it needs food, water, and air. If it was "pretty easy" we would barely have alcoholics today.
>>
Anyone has that webm of a guy with shaking hands who wakes up only to drink vodka and then go back to bed.
>>
>>223747146
It is easy when you commit and I have done it. It took several attempts and hospitalizations, but it was easy. Drank a handle every 24 hours for years, now 9 years sober. I am not talking about what I do not understand.
>>
i'm not sure if it counts because it's a mixer but I would get home from work and pour 1/3 rum 2/3 coke in a pint glass and neck it. gets you in the zone in about 5 minutes. i'm not an alcoholic though.
>>
>>223747249
>It took several attempts and hospitalizations

>>
>>223747269
It was. As stated. It was like having a flu I could have instantly cured, but chose not to for three days. After that it was cake. Stop being a pussy and making excuses.
>>
>>223747285
Oh Ive done it too, but it wasn't easy. You just think you're some kind of cool bad ass, but you're not. No one is impressed by how easily you defeated alcoholism.
>>
>>223747249
9 years sober is excellent - great job, anon
>>
>>223747253
What happens, and how do you feel if you don't drink when you come home? What do you do you when you feel yourself leaving the zone? Do you drink more?
>>
Nah
>straight vodka is gross
>vodka bottles have nozzles on them for making drinks meaning you barely get any alcohol into yourself while having to taste all of it
real alcoholics dont even drink vodka because its too expensive
its mostly cheap stuff, beer/wine sold in cheap plastic bottles
vodka in glass bottles is too expensive
besides you dont want to chug all of alcohol at once, you want to keep it around to be drunk the whole day. if you just chug hard liquor you will just want to go to sleep right away, which defeats the whole purpose since you're asleep for the part when you're drunk and you wake up sober (and hangover)
you want to drink enough to be drunk but not sleepy and thats where the art of alcoholism lies in
>>
>>223746775
my ex gf would and she would drink it like that, like chugging water basically

Good job anon, but your story is anecdotal. What works for you doesn't always work for everyone else. You say it was easy, but also mention multiple hospital visits. And here I thought all you did was just stay at home and drink water only until you no longer felt the need to drink.

Of course it is. No one chugs vodka for the taste. They do it to quickly get their buzz going.
>>vodka bottles have nozzles on
Not all of them. And they can be removed. Can also be fully poured into a regular bottle.
>Vodka is expensive
Depends on where you live. You can buy big plastic bottles of vodka pretty cheap if you know where to look.

>>
what is the point of being an alcoholic?
do people do it to quell psychological issues or is it a physical thing of dealing with pain from withdrawal?

Go look at the drug addicts in Philadelphia. The zombies that are high on fent.
>>
>>223747358
>vodka in glass bottles is too expensive
anon... there is plenty of absolute bottom shelf vodka you can get for like the lowest price per alcohol % of the bunch. I can get a handle of the cheapest stuff instacarted for $12 and that's including their markup. by that point it's not in glass but plastic.
alkies also love vodka because it is clear and odorless so they can put it in water bottles to drink openly without people guessing. you are right they don't chug though not usually
>>
>>223746795
Going through the DUI process right now. It fucking sucks.
>>
>>223747457
>do people do it to quell psychological issues
Yes. Can't see your problems if you are too drunk to think about them
>>
>>223747400
Is it just me or do other people get drunk faster on beer and wine rather than hard liquor?
>>
>>223747457

>>
>>223746696
I've managed to drop alcohol relatively easily, from drinking multiple beers on workdays and at least 0.5l of vodka on weekends to nothing around 3 years ago. Now binge eating, that's a fucking dragon - everything people say about alcohol addiction I can see mirrored in my food habits. Not even fastfood, but a large amount of the salty+fat homemade stuff. I might be enjoying a healthy streak, and before I know it I find myself at the hob frying some cutlets that'd feed a whole family. 120->90->125 kg between 2020 and now (I have very bad eating habits from my childhood, it was spent on climbing up to that initial 120kg), fortunately I'm 1.9m so it's not as bad as it could've been. I'm already focusing heavily on eating a normal veg-based dinner today, I hope I don't go shopping for anything stupid (I try to keep my fridge empty of temptations)

Taste becomes borderline irrelevant when it makes you feel good.
If you dose it properly it makes you feel good. If you can keep it in "the zone" it's a rather good feeling. Most people can't due to genetics and other factors. It's a mixed bag drug.

In movies and TV shows, drunks are always trying to hide their drinking, but IRL, they don't give a fuck. They drink, and it's your problem until you walk away, and then you are the bad guy. If you've been there you already know.
>>
>>223746752
>unfortunately
You are sad that your body has been rejecting more and more poison?

>>223747695

>>
>>223746839
I once heard you have to quit 7 times to beat addiction. Meaning you will constantly relapse and eventually succeed.
But at the end of the day. You just wake up one day and quit drinking forever.
I mean, you have to genuinely want it not just want the idea of it. Becoming sober means feeling guilt and disgust every time you drink. It means dreading the hangover and the shitty sleep. Obviously it's not just some fanciful gosh I wish I didn't have to drink all the time.
Good luck I guess.
>>
I used to do this but I'd have a soft drink on the side to chase it at least. Couldn't be arsed to mix
>>
>>223747693
unless I'm so drunk that I can barely stand up and have to hold one eye closed to focus etc, which is usually after 20-30 drinks, I can be completely normal. I'm usually just drunk quietly alone in my room with headphones on watching movies
>>
Alcohol is such a stupid drug. I don't miss it one bit. The only time I feel any desire to drink is when I'm pressured by other people. Which is also stupid.
>>
>>223747396

>>223747075
The taste permanently changes from vinegar to sweet/warm after you drink enough. If it was always sweet/warm, your mother drank while pregnant. My goto drink was 151 rum and coke because I liked the mesh of bitter and sweet. Then one day the taste of alcohol changed to just sweet, and then 151 and coke just tasted sweet on sweet, like adding straight sugar to coke. I used to like rock and rye, now it just tastes like sugar. This is what is meant by alcohol being an acquired taste. They say coffee was an acquired taste, but it isn’t, you just learn to like it, it doesn’t suddenly start tasting completely different. This means alcohol/fermentation has been with humanity for hundreds of thousands of years.
>>
>>223747500
Depends if you're sipping or shotting the hard stuff.
>>
>>223746696
I used to go out in my car and do that on my 30-minute lunch break when I worked at a grocery store so I could plow through the last few hours of my shift completely shitfaced and make the time go faster.

When I quit that job, I no longer felt the need to drink.

>why would working at a grocery store make you become an alcoholic?

Basically it could and should have been a good job but the biggest problem with it was the owners of the business being way stupider than me, blaming workers for decisions we had nothing to do with that would hemorrhage money every month and then making up new stupid rules that didn't fix the problem but did make everybody's job twice as hard for no fucking reason and then blaming the low men on the totem pole even more for the original problem as well as the new, secondary problems continuing to get worse and fester.

All the men working there were expected to do 2-3 people's jobs for only one person's paycheck, meanwhile the fucking girls would take all day to sweep and walk really slow from one end of the store to the other with their hands empty and just socialize with each other all day and complain about how hard working was while they did nothing and we did all the work and suffered all the setbacks and they also were getting paid more per hour than us on top of everything.

It's very, very depressing to have a genius-level IQ and be able to see so clearly the blatant and egregious stupidity and waste of management but not have any power to do anything about it except watch it chew your life up and watch everybody else get their lives chewed up by it, day after week after month after year.
>>
for me the thing that I can't seem to quit about alcohol is the "mental vacation" quality it gives.
There is something about the numb bliss I go into while drinking that I simply can't achieve through any other means. Very long stretches of sobriety are painful specifically for this exact reason to me.

I could very easily physically give up alcohol. I do not in any way need the drug itself. But I am absolutely psychologically addicted to this effect.
>>
>>223747146
We have alcoholics because the body starts pushing adrenaline when blood/oxygen ratio gets low, to increase breathing and heart rates, which will trigger whatever is associated with adrenaline in the conscious mind, most often fear. These are misinterpreted as “need alcohol.” If this happens while someone is sleeping, nightmares, which pushes them to drink more to avoid even that level of consciousness, which ends up as a vicious cycle of more alcohol and more adrenaline as they counteract each other.

What shitass country you in. Haven’t had dollar a jug wine in the US for decades. Even “2 buck chuck” is $6 a bottle now and that’s the cheapest you can get, and that’s at most 12.5%, so that’s $6.44 per 100ml of ethanol, which is terrible.
>>
>>223747500
There’s a hard cap to how quickly BAC can increase over time. That said, the more you drink the harder it is to get drunk, as BAC decreases at a fixed rate over time, so anything over .24 will take longer than 16 hours to clear from the time you stop, so if you drink daily, you’ll still have BAC when you start drinking again.

I take it and it's not a magic drug. Works great if you're a binge drinker with no impulse control. Basically it makes you unable to become too euphoric, but if you're an experienced drinker and know how to pace yourself you can walk around just fine with a very mild buzz. If you're not motivated to quit drinking you'll just learn how to manage, and the biggest risk is that if you drink for any reason other than seeking the euphoria (such as to calm social anxiety or simply because drinking is a part of your lifestyle), you'll actually have less awareness of how much alcohol you've consumed. On the other hand you will certainly tame any impulsive excessive drinking and over-consumption of almost any substance, including food.
>>

If you drink your breath and sweat will reek of alcohol. There is literally no way to hide it. And no, chewing gum does nothing.
>>
>>223748256
It's not. Addiction just means you use alcohol to cope with your emotions. Even if that emotion is just boredom. It means you are weak and can't face reality without help.

define reality to lonely men doing manual labour. alcohol is the only thing keeping this basedciety going on, and that's a fact.

Wrong. Genetics, consumption during pregnancy and trauma play a big part in determining if someone is an addict or not. This doesn't mean they are not responsible for their own actions, of course. It's like being good looking: you can workout, dress well and eat healthy, but some cunts are just naturally ugly and it will take them 100x the effort compared to someone else.
