Anyone else turn around hard on this show after learning more about the event and everything around it?
Especially how it casts the villain (Legasov) as the hero and paints Dyatlov out to be a villain when he was a hero, who even irradiated himself trying to look for Khodemchuk.

It doesn't even hold up as well as drama on a rewatch since the quality is frontloaded and peters out hard
Not to mention all the baffling narrative choices baked into it like the awful female scientist character and the retarded multi megaton steam explosion scare it uses as a plot point.
>>
my biggest problem with chernobyl is they made the disaster into a bigger deal than it was. it was scary but they made it out to be like it killed a million people
>>
>>223757369
Great thread, Ivan! How’s the three day operation going?
>>
>>223757855
Communists being retards and trying to downplay an ongoing melt down was what was actually terrifying about it. They were more concerned about saving their own skins and throwing someone under the bus so they don't get in trouble with their Kremlin daddy.
>>
>>223757922
i mean that's what the show says but reality paints a picture that very lttle people actually died.
>>
>>223757369
This poster is delusional. Take him to the infirmary.
>>
>>223757917
Don't get me wrong I hate ziggers as much as the rest of the population in possession of a functioning frontal lobe, I just really dislike how the show makes a big deal of telling the truth when its mostly based on a book that makes an abject mockery of the truth.
It's not like the truth is any less harsh on the actual perpetrators of the disaster or on the awful USSR political apparatus, it's just that in reality the dudes in the control room themselves weren't the people most guilty, in fact they could never have known how fucked over they were by upper management incompetence.
>>
>>223758085
If you check Wikipedia you’ll find out all the people who died in the show also died in real life. The show is very accurate in that respect
>>
>>223757922
You still have said communists trying to downplay the still ongoing meltdown.
>>
>>223757369
IDK shit about the RL disaster or the people involved. Just that the show was decent and it showed communism in a horrible light.
If they painted heroes as villains and vice versa, that's fucked.
>>
>>223757369
The main problem with the show is how it downplayed how many people the KGB killed for talking about or investigating the explosion, because the fact RBMK reactors could explode was considered a state secret.

Not to mention dyatlov isn’t portrayed as a villain but someone forced to walk an impossible line, as even admitting the reactor exploded at all would be spreading state secrets. His hard denial kept a lot of people under him alive at the same time killing others.

Chernobyl, the place, has been perfectly good to visit for a very long time. The effects of radiation weren’t only exaggerated to a ridiculous degree on this show but in real life as well. Are nuclear disasters and nuclear weapons bad? Yes. Can they cause disasters that utterly destroy or poison continents or the world and utterly decimate populations? No. The fear mongering around Radiation is absurd and pathetic and is only used to fuel the stupid lie that is MAD.
>>
>>223758545
There's a significant difference between an explosion in a building containing fuel rods and an aerial detonation nuclear bomb, Anon.
>>
>>223758545
I'd pick the negative environmental impact of nuclear over oil any day, what a no brainer
>>
>>223758545
>Chernobyl, the place, has been perfectly good to visit for a very long time
Due to the enormous cleanup and containment effort that has to continue for decades to come, the total final cumulative cost of which will be somewhere in the hundreds of billions.

Nuclear is still better than coal/oil/gas though.

I agree, Boris.

Russkies out in full force today.
Hey pidors. Your country was always a failed shithole and the show represents your idiocy very accurately.
>>
>>223757369
Why did they have to pretend that helicopter crashed because of gamma rays? In real life it clipped a crane
>>
>>223758840
The show treated radiation like some magical force.
>the baby absorbed the radiation from the mother!
>>
>>223758085
>very lttle people actually died.
Figuring out who died as a direct result from Chernobyl is really hard because unless you're one of the (un)lucky few who got your skin melted off most of the radiation victims died of cancer, which is what most people die of anyway. Was that cancer a result of the meltdown? Probably. But the extent to which it significantly shaved down people's lives vs the effects of living in Soviet Russia is debateable. The death range goes from the 100 or so people who died the week after the explosion to hundreds of thousands of people in the region who died from cancer a few years-decades later.
>>
>>223758085
Nice dodge.
>Let's ignore the retardation of communists and redirect to something else, like the deaths that were caused by communist retardation but was only a small amount so the whole thing was just a big nothing burger, right cumrags??

I think it was a good balance. A lot of it is talking about how bad it could get and showing what people had to sacrifice to keep the shit from truly hitting the fan. It's like brushing off y2k as nothing when it was only nothing because a ton of people worked their asses off and spent billions of dollars to keep anything from happening.

Yeah and nobody, not even the most ardent anti-nuclear activists are implying a powerplant is the same as a nuke or that a meltdown is comparable to a hydrogen bomb being detonated. What's your point here?
>>
>>223762771
Follow the quote back to the original post, bucko.

I did and your response to him doesn't really address the claim he made as he didn't imply they were the same thing, which is why I replied in the first place, buddy.

If you wouldn't sacrifice a few dozen of your population (including yourself) in order to preserve the security and continued survival of your way of life as a whole, then you are the reason the liberals have been permitted to take over.
If the CCCP had actually succeeded in properly ignoring the disaster, the union may have never collapsed and worst case scenario some of the enemies of the people would have died and some lands in the imperialist west would have become uninhabitable. Both of which would be positives for the working man as a collective.
>>
>>223757369
So it has to basically be a documentary in order for you to enjoy it? Stop being such a nerd and enjoy it for what it is.

Liberals are product of CCCP.

Yeah, for a day trip. Actually living there obviously wouldn't be good for you and that's why nobody lives within the 10 km exclusion zone.

Oh here comes the Russian glavset hooker to tell us how Chernobyl wasn't that bad, radiation poisoning isn't real and how the whole thing was handled marvelously by the soviets.
>>
>>223758545
>Chernobyl, the place, has been perfectly good to visit
chernobyl the place is practically at the edge of the zone. its one of the few remaining real towns there. 30km zone is littered with shit that makes your geiger sing, there is a huge fucking radiation spot just near the power plant on the road that us tourists took, and you need to drive fast past it. in prypiat you have maybe two-three spots that are completely safe (main boulevard, riverbank cafe, etc.) anywhere else you gotta use trails.
>>
>>223758085
That's not reality, Alenka, that's the damage control your asiatic dystopia tried to paint afterwards.

>I hate russians but

Why are they like this?
>>
>>223763745
What the fuck are you on about? blaming the operators is LITERALLY a Kremlin narrative since it was convenient for the retards up above to pin everything on the little guys.
I don't know what your retarded drivel is trying to convey but the truth is in no way any better looking for the USSR considering most of the actual blame lies on Minenergo, the Kurchatov Institute, NIKIET, and Sredmash.
The so called soviet """"experts"""" built a shitty design, misunderstood what made it dangerous, lied about it not being dangerous, made a bunch of instructions for the test that would bring about what made it dangerous, and lied about everything AGAIN when shit actually blew up.

>>
>>223761136
There is no lack of facts in this show, you coercible, useful idiot.
>>
>>223757369
what exactly is the plot of nuclear explosion: the series?
sounds extremely boring, it explodes, the end, seriously?
>>
>>223762771
What is your point? In arguing with a paid muscovite troll, you've already made completely idiotic statements like minimizing the environmental impact of an exposed core meltdown. You might not get a nuclear explosion, but the radiation exposure can last thousands of years and spread through an immense area.
>>
>>223763090
It was a dramatization, but the effects and scope of the disaster were properly portrayed.
>>
>>223763786
>What the fuck are you on about? blaming the operators
Not that, at all. Never even mentioned the operators, even though they played a huge part.
See, this is what happens when you follow a script instead of arguing in good faith, you end up with non-sequiturs that expose your operation.
>>

t. zoomer who was not alive in the 80s and 90s

I'm too young to remember the accident happening, but Chernobyl was a very common topic of conversation throughout the 90s and it made people terrified and paranoid about nuclear energy. Some still are. So yeah, it was a pretty big deal.
