Even after reading the plot summary on Wikipedia I still dont get it.

it is meant to present a reality where time travel is so convoluted, after a certain point nothing makes sense to the characters themselves
>>
The moment they discovered time travel it was too late, someone was already in past fucking shit up. it's that simple

i hate fucking redditors who think the point of primer is to understand all the timelines
>>
>>223820387
You're both overthinking and underthinking it at the same time.
The mistake is trying to figure out the exact paths and casual effects going on. It was intentionally written in a way where this is extremely difficult to follow (if even possible).
The point is that there have been a lot of loops and decisions made off screen.
But what you're underthinking is the point of showing all of that - ie the film's actual story. Stop worrying about the nitty details and think of the film as a whole. I honestly don't understand how people can claim to like this film without being able to do that
(for the record, it's absolute kino, it just like a lot of people that say they love it only do so because they think they're supposed to and don't want to admit they didn't 'get' it)

Do you understand the weird way that time travel works in the movie? There's an infographic for that too

Man if only he could have held in his schizophrenia for one more movie.

>make a decent amount of money and gather a cult following from making 2 sub-$30k arthouse features
>refuse to make anymore films unless hollywood gives you a $100m+ budget
In retrospect, was Shane an idiot?

This video explains every timeline and detail and isn't as confusing as some of the infographs here.

i have a pretty high tolerance for time travel slop but this shit was too boring and convoluted to be worth trying to finish.
>>

That's not why he dissappered though. After he was arrested for stalking and beating his current ex every single women he dated or tried to date since university came forward with accounts of physical abuse and sexual assault and stalking and threatening murder suicide. The ones working in film adjacent anything he also tried to blacklist. It wasn't one person it was more than ten and spread out of almost twenty years. There's no comming back from that.

@grok summarize this to me like I'm a Marvel fan

The better question is what happens when the cops find dead clones
>>
>>223820387
>(((((smart))))) engineer retard discovers a time machine that can accelerate growth of anything (infinite money glitch) and even duplicate anything (real infinite money glitch) on top of sending infinite messages to the past to himself
>the absolute retard decides to send himself to play some 1D chess, and possibly killing his braincells AND aging himself in the process
>ends up with duplicates of himself running around each with their own agendas because he's 2smart4u
it's a shitty film that only appears smart to people with double digits IQ

the issue is not the clones/paradox in itself, the issue is the whole reason for it is absolutely retarded, the characters did not have a reasonable motivation to clone himself. he had plenty of ways to achieve better results.
>>
>>223821422
Not enough morlocks?
>>
>>223821549
he never knew it was going to clone himself that was unintentional. It's a good film because it's a low budget indie film in a time when it was harder to make a movie.
>>
>>223820387
I think we can all agree this inspired at least 2 or 3 Nolan movies
>>
>>223821646
he didn't need to send himself, he only needed to send a message with detailed instruction and infromation
when you discover a magical portal you do not start by sending a live subject let alone (you)rself, you should at least test by sending actual object to see the limit of the duplication through paradox.
what if the duplicated object annihilates itself after some event? where's the scientific method of these engineers?

ignoring all that, if you are a selfish bastard, you'd know having a clone of yourself will be a huge risk, especially if you love your (one) family, so what's the big plan here anyway?
there's really no way out of that stupidity, you either try to work with your clones if you're 100% sure you have the right personality (aka being a team player with yourself), or you 100% try to throw your past "selves" under the bus, but it has a really high risk because they can outplay you or destroy your plan, because well, it's "you"

Smart people. If time travel was real it wouldn't just be a genie in the bottle. It would be really hard to use and a constant arms race. Like current cyber security its almost more of a pain to have it around because you can never take a fucking break.
>>
>>223820387
That's it. After all the spam on here, I'm downloading it right now. Don't make me regret it.
>>
>>223821102
There's a timeline where his gamble paid off.
>>
The only thing explained in the movie is how the time travel scheme works i.e. start the machine to create the point B and get in as its winding down between B and A then time it so you exit at B. Otherwise nobody knows what "happened" because nobody knows why Thomas Granger came back, what the other party timelines looked like, exactly how many party timelines there are, and everything else in-between.
That's the point of the story; You can't engineer your way out of crazy overlapping recursive time fuckery.

>>223822086
Watch Coherence too.

>It wasn't one person it was more than ten and spread out of almost twenty years. There's no comming back from that.
Sure. But that only happened in what like 2019/2020 or thereabouts? Upstream Color was released in 2013.
That's 6 years he had where he could've been making more low budget kino.
And even now, as he's 'cancelled', I guarantee he wouldn't struggle in the slightest to find desperate actors who would work for him for very little.

>>223821551
>waaaaah I made a boring piece of shit about completely nonsensical fantastical bullshit magic
>oh you WANTED MONSTERS IN IT?
>ARE YOU 12 OR SOMETHING

Go back and sniff your own farts on r/art you giant faggot. Youll fit right in.

EVERY MOVIE IS BETTER WITH A MONSTER IN IT.

Shane, please post.

no

It falls apart about halfway through when they stop explaining what the hell is going on. You can piece it together after a few rewatchea but they relied too much on shots where you were being told what happens because they didn't have the budget to film it

So do the previous timeliness no longer have the protagonist in them? The protagonists are just universal hopping to new realities?
>>
I wasnt smart enough to understand the dialogue in the first ten minutes so I didnt watch the rest. It seemed it was obtuse on purpouse.
>>
>>223820387
The method of time traveling through a tunnel makes sense, it's the convoluted nature of when they get out of it that's harder to follow
>>
>>223820387
you're probably just retarded then, even my 80 year old grandmother who didn't even go to high school understood the movie just fine
>>

i remember begging my mom to rent this from blockbuster because i thought the cover looked cool. worst decision of my life, what an utter dogshit movie

This. My cousin Jim was born without a brain stem and this is his favorite movie.
