For a remake of a kino it was pretty kino itself.

It scratches the action itch, but it lacks the soul of the original. Also, all they had to do was fortify the gun store and mow down the zombies and I'm sure there would be more than enough bullets to do it; their boat plan was foolish.
>>
>>223856818
They were running out of food genius
>>
>>223856751
It only suffers from having the same name as a classic. Call it Zombie Mall and it's a 10/10
>>
>>223856860
No they weren't, they decided to leave the mall after the black guy's kid was born a zombie and he went insane and killed a grandma.

Then blondie said they couldn't stay there anymore because they'd all go insane o algo, and they could try for the remote isles.
>>
>>223856860
Were they? Did the film make that clear? Honestly asking. Let's say you're right, then they should have at least used the gun store to the max like I said then split for somewhere else and not a boat that may or may not be there or afloat.
One would have to be willing to eat fish eyeballs to stave off scurvy as well.
>>
Loved the intro. Wake up, boom, apocalypse.
Rest is meh.
Same with 28 Days Later. Stellar intro, meh rest.
>>
>>223856860
10 people in a mall?
the local storage of canned foods could tide them over for a year or more.
and there's still the larger city area, just loot another walmart nearby.

ammo store has enough bullets to shoot every zombie in a 10 mile radius in the head. gunfire will attract them.
grab the cars to funnel them back to the store. slow and steady headshots, clean the entire suburb area and you're set for food for life. there was literally no reason to leave
>>
>>223856920
>grab the cars to funnel them back to the store

This. They could have rigged a vehicle to backfire for days in there.
>>
>>223856751
Death shouldn't be an energy drink. Fast moving zombies are just dumb as fuck as you stand zero chance of ever escaping them, so what's the point? At least with the slow lumbering zombies, you can survive as long as you never let your guard down.
>>
Wouldnt you need to hunker down for just a few weeks before the zombies either rot or starve to death?
>>
>>223856969
>>223857011
Zombies are pure magical fantasy. The human body would be too stiff to move much after just one day. Then you have the visual cortex issue where their non-functioning (or non-existent) brains would be unable to flip everything they see from upside down to right side up.
>>
All the gun store guy needed was a suppressed 22lr rifle and he could've cleared out the entire hoard. Him using that unsuppressed Winchester rifle was overkill and dumb.
>>
>>223857060
His time in the extra features is almost better than the film.
>>
That's not Dawn of the Dead, that's Dawn of the Dead (2004).

Never forget to put the date next to remakes, they deserve the appendix, like a sticky that won't come out.
>>
>>223857159
I think it's better than Dawn of the Dead (1978).
>>
>credits start, guy goes to bring the car around while date sticks around to watch a few minutes of the credits before leaving the theater
>10 minutes later she gets in the car
>guy: "so, do you think they made it?"
>>
>>223856860
So were the zombies
>>
>>223857207
Heh.
Sometimes I just turn the movie off as soon as the guy shoots himself.
>>
>>223856751
has anyone written a book or made a documentary about why literally everything from the 70s aged so goddamn poorly?
>>
>>223856904
they were starting to think about leaving but then a few other things like their friend at the gun store starving prompted them to start moving
>>
Sprinting zombies are better than limping zombies.
>>
>>223857276
True, but that's still unwise.
>Yes, let's get us all killed because that one guy is about to die.

Yes I would have let him starve under the circumstances. Sucks to be him.

The island idea was dumb. There's a bunch of islands off the coast from where I live and even I know it would be retarded to try and get to them during a zombie apocalypse. There's no food, nothing worth hunting, and the land sucks for growing crops. At least on the mainland you'd have all the abandoned grocery stores.
>>
>>223856751
Better than the original. That lounge jazz cover of down with the sickness is better than the original too
>>
>>223858646
There's a city sized island not far from me that has all the good stuff and a low population, so if it were to magically happen, that's where I'd go.
>>
>>223858646
You can go there, establish a base and feel safe for a bit. Then you gather your courage and start sending out scavenging parties back to the mainland. Those guys sneak into stores, get as much as they can, and return to the safe island base. Doesn't have to be perfect or last forever. It just gives more safety than living in a store and getting surrounded by a horde again

If you're gonna keep criticizing horror movie characters for being oh so very stupid and how you would've totally done everything differently at least pay a little more attention next time and try to put yourself in the shoes of the characters. True, they could've stayed alive within the mall for a good while but they were just waiting to die with no future, Ving Rhames literally says this verbatim and it was only a matter of time before the zombies got inside the first floor and they would just be kicking the can down the road the longer they stayed. Finding a small island to settle down on they could find sustainable food and water sources and live out their whole lives with no way of any more zombies being able to get to them once they cleared the island.
>>223857232
These weren't 28 Days Later infected, and there are too many zombies around for all of them to have lived off of eating other humans and most of them have their entire bodies intact with only small wounds. Presumably they didn't need food or water to survive just like Romero's zombies.
>>
>>223856751
Regardless of how the zombies came to be one thing is certain and that's that they cannot go against the laws of thermodynamics. All you have to do is it wait it out while they slowly decay from energy consumption.
>>
>>223859584
>but they were just waiting to die with no future

Phew! Thankfully that's just a movie! ha ha
>>

It was the Great Lakes you fucking retard, there is food and fresh water all around

>Because now I realize there are some things worse than death, and one of them is sitting here waiting to die.

The ONLY reason they left is because Ving's character wanted to. There was no reason for them to leave. And yeah, it was so stupid.
>>
>>223861217
>There was no reason for them to leave.
The mall was vunerable to attack from the basement. Plus there was hundreds of rotting corpses directly outside. IMAGINE THE SMELL
>>
the mall setting makes it comfy
>>
>>223861247
It was completely locked off. The decaying corpses is one thing, but the movie never states those are an issue. The baby stuff happens, and then Ving does his speech, so they decide to leave. They could've had one scene or one line of dialog make it clear they actually had to leave.
>>
>>223861318
I haven't seen it in years but I remember something about the power going out and the breakers were in the basement. When they go down there they find out the dead have made their way inside.
>>
>>223858646
nah it was a legit good idea. the problem is that others thought the same and would carry one infected to the island and fuck eberyone
>>
>>223861247
DEE YOU BITCH YOU HAVENT IMAGINED THE SMELL
>>
>>223861357
Only a couple dead were down there and they never would've made their way inside. The movie is, in Zack fashion, lazily written. It's also never explained why some people turn instant and others can take their sweet time, like the fat women and the guy with the leg bite from the truck, even though they must've been driving around for a while.

I like 2004, but there's a few inconsistencies that bring it down.
>>
>>223861217
>>223861318
Almost all of them wanted to leave after being forced to kill a newborn baby plus they had already started to use the backup generator to provide them with electricity which would only last them a couple of days at most. Time was quickly running out for them and they needed to find a more permanent solution to their situation which requires relocating not just to another mall.
>>
>>223861318
nope they had power issues so all the shit that needs electricity went to shit aka supplies, can goods lasts for so long. they went down the basement and got attacked by zombies. youd be a retard if you decided to stay in complete darkness with a bunch of zombies inside and outside
>>
>>223861451
>Only a couple dead were down there and they never would've made their way inside.
There was a whole bunch of them actually.
>It's also never explained why some people turn instant and others can take their sweet time
Only one of them turn instantly near the very end because the movie can't draw out the suspense of transformations anymore by that point without completely omitting the threat or killing the pacing completely, but aside from that everyone's bodies are different and in real life it can vary wildly from when you get infected by a disease/virus until you start showing symptoms, sometimes it's immediate sometimes it takes a while. This thread is full of silly nitpicking desu.
>>
>no "let's leave our impenetrable fortress with infinite food ammo and power because...reasons"
>no dumbass leaving a gap open in the perimeter which makes shit hit the fan (kid's ball rolled under the fence and they went to get it kind of dumb ass shit. In OP's case I think it was sitcom dad guy leaving a door open)
>no guy trying to amass now-useless money or cult power (alternatively, annoying religious person screeching about jesus)
Anything manage to avoid all 3 of these far too common zombie movie pitfalls
>>
People complaining about them leaving the mall are kind of dumb. They could never stay there forever, and honestly “let’s go to the islands” beats the hell out of a biker gang destroying the mall
>>
>>223861676
What about her husband in the beginning?

For me its Dennis Hopper and John Leguzimano in land of the dead.

>>
>>223861747
>no dumbass leaving a gap open in the perimeter which makes shit hit the fan
It was the dog that was sent to give food to Andy in the gun store across the street who was starving to death through the pet door and the zombies managed to hold the door open so they could get inside. Then the redhead stupidly went after the dog despite zombies being shown to not care about anything but other humans, but she had just lost her father earlier in the film and as a result probably grew very emotionally attached to the dog. Emotions overriding logical thinking happens all the time but they would've had to get inside the store to gather more weapons and ammo anyway and check on Andy
>>
>>223861193
Fiery but mostly peaceful apocalypse.
>>
>>223861927
Yeah. You're right.
>>
>>223861927
Nah, it's horrible. The "zombies becoming smart again" aspect was always the most lame and boring part of Romero's movies.
>>
>>223861848
Oh yeah. Still doesn't change what I said about how each individual body obviously deals with infections and diseases differently, even just things like how your body absorbs drugs and chemicals can vary wildly from person to person. I don't get affected by caffeine at all for example so there's no reason for me to drink coffee or energy drinks besides liking the taste.
>>
>>223861848
He was bit on the neck and bled out. You don't become a zombie until the infection kills you or you die from other means. The main woman explains this after they kill the fat woman who was bit on the arm. The father was bit on the hand. The pregnant woman was simply scratched on the arm. The guy at the end could have been bitten on the neck or an artery.
