What's the best space horror film?
>>223863853this and sunshine (2007) are supposed space kinos i have yet to watch. i should get around to it.
>>223863928>sunshineless a space horror story and more of a space incompetence simulator
>>223863928Alien is easily the best space horror film. Event Horizon is a strong #2 though. I tried to watch Sunshine the other day and holy fuck has it aged badly. The acting is over the top and everyone acts weird and off kilter for no reason like they are purposefully acting in Oscar bait but in that way where it hard misses and comes off as cringe.
>>223863976I wish there were more space horror movies like Event Horizon desu. Alien is great obviously, but I like that EH is more unexplained ghostly/hell dimension phenomena rather than a physical alien threat.
Will a director's cut ever be released?I know they found some stuff in a VCR.
>>223864079It's the religious horror in space that sets Event Horizon apart from other similar films.
>>223863853Sci-fi is gay
>>223863853What fuckery is this? I just started watching the movie, refreshed and see it on catalog
>>223864079The real horror of alien is the vast, cool, and unsympathetic calculus of the company, like the xenomorph, a perfect organism, unburdeoned by delusions of morality.
>>223864185Not OP, but it’s streaming on Peacock right now. I just watched it a couple nights ago.
>>223864169There was a Hellraiser in space. And a Leprechaun movie, and a Dracula movie.
What are some good cosmic horror movies or books? I just read The Jaunt by Stephen King and it's KINO
>>223864196Yeah, the RE series borrowed heavily from Alien/Aliens. Umbrella Corp/Weyland-Yutani obviously, plus the blaring sirens and a countdown to destruction at the end.
>>223864208Yes. And they all sucked. But jason x is legit kino.
>>223864196Alien was cool in the first one but after got old fast. I love the new show when the aliens not involved. Cool world, very tired overdone theme.
>>223864229How did Jason in Space break the trend?
Fags like sci fi
>>223864236How much can you do with "aliens in airducts"? Not much more than what was done in the first film, it turns out. So either rinse and repeat, forever, or get weird. A geigerverse is one way to get really, really weird. A less weird option is just exploring the setting more and encountering new hazards. But, the average audience wants to see the xenomorph, so that's what we get.
>>223864247It was the right amount of camp.Leprechaun in space was too stupid to be good.Hellraiser in space was bogged down by a horrible story. Dracula actually took itself too seriously.Jason x knows its a stupid slasher movie in space for no legitimate reason. It has the right production value to make it funny and arguably the best jason movie of them all (counting jason movies as the break between friday the 13th and the jason movies seperate) It just hits differently than the others. It had the magic. It is complete dog ass. But tell me you aren't entertained by it.The other ones are not entertaining.
>>223864295>A geigerverse What would that entail?
>>223864315Other environments and creatures and life cycles based on the concepts in his art. Prometheus could have gone that route, but chickened out by making Space Jockey just a tall albino human and maintaining the xenomorph as just a giant ant.
>>223863853that old silent one from the 1900s where they land on the moonand when you realize they didnt pack another canon to get back
>>223864079I actually think a lot of horror fans tend to underrate it because they go into it expecting just another monster movie like Alien when instead the movie is mainly psychological where the horror comes from within. It's 100% a story about how we're all alone in the universe which is arguably just as frightening to think about in many ways. Solid 7.5/10 movie which means it's a good movie on a normal ratings scale just in case any /v/tards are reading this.>>223863853Check out Pandorum if you liked Event Horizon it's another solid and actually pretty underrated space horror that was produced by Paul W. S. Anderson who directed EH. It's actually sort of a monster movie unlike EH. Also Pitch Black is a personal favorite of mine, it's a shame Vin Diesel tried to turn it into Star Wars with Chronicles.
>>223863853Not this overrated piece of shit.
>>223864209That's it. Youre done.
>>223864196nta but idgaf about muh corpo and shiiieeeeetttt i want cosmic horror
>>223864208>Dracula movie.D is scifihorrormonsterkino
>>223864209The gone world and first half of the Night Land both blew me away this year. Second half sucks.
>>223864494holy fucking shit… people weren’t disappointed with EH because it’s le epiq psychology they were disappointed because it’s a retarded action movie. made for retards. just off the top of my head here were some cartoonish moments: >stock punch sounds during the final fight >where sam neill is wearing a ken doll outfit >black guy going YO DAWG IMA ROCKET POP BACK TO SHIP YO>and then successfully shattering the “glass” >a prolonged burst window sucking everyone out scene… when aliens did that. >sam neill goes from godlike and unstoppable to impotent and useless… back and forth maybe 20 times aliens was 200x smarter with it’s “which mother is truly the more sympathetic figure” themes. https://youtu.be/HFNly1GO5IQ
>>223864766I don’t think anyone is arguing that it’s a flawless masterpiece, but it’s a pretty unique sci-fi horror movie made on a lower budget and put Paul W.S. Anderson on the map.
I wish more sci-fi horror could be about the bigger implications of that we are finally venturing into the cosmos and find nothing but dead worlds and horrors around every turn and not just "Oh this one experiment went awry and spooky shit happened" or "We found this alien and it killed everyone."
>>223864209I read The Jaunt decades ago as a teenager and it gave me fucking nightmares. Probably one of the scariest things I've ever read along with the Mist. I kept waking up thinking I was in the Jaunt and totally fucked.
>>223864766Calling EH an action movie is akin to calling Home Alone an action movie, you're describing maybe 10% of the movie like that at best and all of your greentext moments are from the 3rd act, but the action scenes are still supposed to be suspenseful/scary. It's not a flawless movie by any stretch but don't act like the expectations a good number of people had of it being a monster movie which it never promised or advertised itself to be didn''t lead to it being judged poorly as a result.
>>223863853Sphere (it's not technically "space", but it basically is space because the bottom of the ocean is effectively another world, it's basically the same as "space")
>>223863853
might be the best poster ever
>>223864208And Critters IN SPACE! It used to be a meme that horror franchises went to space eventually
>>223864169this movie is actually kind of good because it’s a parody of all the slop scifi shows/movies going on at the time but also Jason is in it
>>223864891You want to get into The Expanse then. Paying attention to the overall aliens mystery is pretty scary. The stuff in The Expanse is way scarier than Alien and makes it look cheesy by comparison
>>223865540
>>223863853As a kid around age 12 or so I genuinely got bored while watching this, I think I even saw some of the nasty room stuff or whatever but I just didn't care. I didn't pay attention, and I think I just turned it off before it was over. boring ghost ship stuff.
>>223864710Those are books or tv?
>>223864945That guy is good
>>223864208>>223864229>>223864247I think Jason in Space made the least sense on paper but it actually did sort of make sense in the movie. But it works because the characters are all like porn parody tier except Jason who is still just Jason he’s not being silly or wacky and the juxtaposition makes it funny and work
>>223863853>What's the best space horror film?not the best but Voyagers with Collin Farrell was pretty tense
>>223863976>The acting is over the top and everyone acts weird and off kilter for no reasonthe planet is gonna die you fucking retard
>>223864629Corpo's is as close to a lovecraftian cultist and king in yellow adjacent horror as you're going to get.
The rise of skywalker
>>223863853I think this movie is really cool but I also think it sucks. Will watch again for a 4th or 5th time.>>223864185It's October, lots of people watching scary movies. I have it downloaded and watched it 2 weeks ago.
>>223865951as above so below
>>223864236yea they should totally commit to depicting life as a slave with Elon as a quadrillionaire who gives you 700 a week to work in a sweat shop
>>223866225i fell asleep by the time they found the secret fleet
>>223864236>The real horror of alien is the vast, cool, and unsympathetic calculus of the companyYep. People tend to forget horror is just as much about the story and the themes etc. as it is about literal and figurative monsters. Horror movies need a proper emotional core too and all the great classics have one, even movies you wouldn't think do at first like Psycho or Texas Chainsaw or Halloween have this and that's why they succeeded and are regarded as timeless classics of horror and filmmaking in general while their many sequels and prequels failed and faded away.
>>223864311Fuck off. That shitty movie is the most canadian, cheapest looking thing I've ever had the displeasure to watch. It mever tries to be scary and it fails at being funny too, since I didn't so much as crack a smile throughout, and I'm an easy guy to make laugh

>>223866114Books. Nightland is 1900, free, and becomes awful as the main character saves the woman and turns into 1900 pornography.Other one is just a good book. True dedective meets Coherence.
>>223866241I really unironically want this.
>>223865919I should check it out sometime. I wish maybe the Alien franchise could lean more into that sort of thing instead of always tying back to the xenomorphs. Maybe they could have more cosmic horror level stuff, but just a dead and decaying universe is pretty cool too.
