This is among the most horrific situations a human can find themselves in, full stop. Probably the most nightmarish video on youtube.

What film is this from?
>>
>>223903356
Holy shit you see a guy coming out of the entrance at 6:16, absolutely fucking mental. Also this tape was found on the body of a man named Mathew Picket and was miraculously still intact enough for the audio to be recovered. It captures the sound of what was happening to those who couldn't escape.

The footage of the Station Nightclub Fire.

I lived in New England when this happened, it's fucking insane especially considering its geographic proximity to the same thing happening in Boston. And no, no one had forgotten that.

I heard that on a fire like that, a person is usually knocked out by the smoke and dies shortly after. That dude was walking alit, so was that a lie? or just the worst luck?
>>
>>223903689
I just listened to the inside recording. 95% of people seem to be knocked out by smoke inhalation, only a few wander around trying to escape. Main characters are real? Memes aside the fiery people were probably near a source of breathing air when they caught fire.
>>
I would have listened to what the fire had to say, and that's what no one else did
>>
The one that happened in the beginning of this year was pretty surreal.

>>
>>223903689
It's probably because they were at the entrance, so they had access to fresh air from outside. Most of the people deep inside were probably knocked out by the smoke before the fire reached them.
>>
>>223905111
There was also an almost identical disaster in Brazil in 2013 where a pyrotechnic prop ignited acoustic foam on the wall, exactly the same as the tragedy in OP's post. 242 people died.

>>
>>223903356
And ofc if everyone responded rationally they could've filed out in an orderly fashion and all survived... but no, our monkeybrains tell us to cram ourselves into a bottleneck and burn alive.
>>
>>223906959
Did they even have time? There are so many comments on the video saying the only reason the cameraman survived was because he moved the instant he saw the fire, and that if he waited 10 seconds more he'd be dead too.

Again, genuinely shocked there isn't an age filter on that video. It's more disturbing than a 4K cartel execution
>>
>>223905910
>About 90% of the victims died from smoke inhalation,[18] specifically cyanide, which was among the toxic chemicals produced when fire consumed the soundproofing foam on the club's ceiling.
I'm sure that's a horrible way to die, but at least it's better than burning alive...?
>>
>>223903356
I remember watching this for the first time and it giving me a fit of anxiety.
It was just something about imagining me or the people I care about caught in a situation like that.

>Spots the danger quickly and heads for the exit immediately without pausing

It is crazy how quickly things can just go to shit
>>
>>223906959
That's really not true. There were more than 400 people crammed into that space and survivors report that there was a bouncer inside stopping people from escaping through an emergency exit. This video explains how it happened.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a242xYyGJWg&t=476s

>>223906984
Yeah, the cameraman was incredibly lucky he started moving a few seconds before the rest of the crow noticed the fire. Even then, he got stuck in the exit and had to break a window to escape. The people further in who tried to use the main door stood no chance, although some found other exits.
>>
Does anyone itt remember that fire in Switzerland that happened in a Swiss club early this year
A bunch of retards got drunk and caused the insulation on the ceiling to burn and everyone stood around filming on their phones instead of leaving and then a few minutes later a bunch of them died
There was this meme pic of a guy walking around that dance floor with a chick on his shoulders and she had sparklers or something, so people theorized that is what caused the initial fire. I don’t believe she was his gf or anything so lots of people called him a pathetic simp. I think both of them were among the dead and crispy
>>
I listen to the audio from inside during the fire and you can hear the death rattles of Michael Pickett. It sounds like they're dying slowly but surely the inferno would've roasted them to death quickly?

I wouldn’t stoop low to make fun of anyone who burns to death, regardless of age. But the types that did laugh at them did so because the victims were doing pretty much everything wrong in that situation, in a way that most other people under 18 would think was avoidable too imo

the lack of survival instincts and general phone-brained actions of the zoomers were pretty shocking. I guess it was the effect of growing up watching everything through a screen and never encountering real danger.

That was the Seoul Halloween Crowd Crush where 159 people died. The crazy thing is, that's nowhere near the deadliest crush in history. There have been multiple disasters where more than a thousand people have been crushed to death by a crowd. The deadliest in known history was in Mina, Saudi Arabia in 2015 where 2,400 people died. There was also a 1990 disaster in Mecca where 1,426 people died, an 1896 disaster in Moscow where around 1,300 people died, and a 2005 disaster in Baghdad where 1,005 people died. There have been many more where the death toll was in the triple digits.

Johnson suffered extensive third-degree burns over 55% of his body, but survived the disaster, becoming the most severely burned person to survive his injuries to date.[19] After 21 months in a hospital and several hundred operations, he married his nurse and returned to his home state of Missouri. Fourteen years later, he burned to death in a fiery automobile crash.

black smoke has soot particles that literally fill your lungs and suppress the gas exchange.
and re-breathing CO2 in the smoke saturates your blood and respiratory system, its worse than not-breathing because your entire oxygen exchange process grinds to a halt.

people who get rescued out of a fire and passed out in the smoke have lung problems afterwards for months or permanently.
fucking with your lungs is something that can kill you extremely quickly

Smoke and fire mean lower levels or no oxygen in the air = suffocation
Smoke is often highly toxic depending on what is being burned = poisoning
Smoke is also often superheated from the fire = burns your lungs

Three ways smoke gets you. Yeah, just a couple deep breaths (when you're also panicked and physically fighting for your life) in a bad fire and you're fucked.

The wikipedia article makes it sound like a ritual sacrifice for one reason, the cameraman.
>he was there shooting a piece on "nightclub safety" for local TV
>it was the project of another person at the studio
>that happened to be one of the two brothers who owned the club
>he was inspired to make the piece by another club disaster
>the TV station parent company paid out $20 million to the victims ostensibly because of the cameraman's actions (not helping people etc)
The last one is probably just part of a broader movement to give those people money, Home Depot gave some millions for no reason, but it's still noteworthy.

If you work security at a large facility, this is basically your whole life. Everything revolves around fire safety. I know more about sprinkler systems and risers than most fire inspectors. Nobody so much as strikes a lighter indoors without a lengthy tedious permit. I spend most of my time, when not regularly inspecting zones where suppression systems have been temporarily disabled, writing up the client for leaving equipment within a few inches of the emergency exits, or inhibiting them in any way. A strand of caution tape in front of an exit is a thousand dollar fine.

No fucking the same thing happened in Russia in 2009, killing 158. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lame_Horse_fire
All these incidents are basically identical. Deep inside a nightclub, spark/pyrotechnics ignite foam attached to the walls and ceiling, which causes a rapidly spreading fire. The exits quickly become blocked by the bodies of people trying to leave, cutting off the escape.

interesting how it starts moving like fluid
>>
>>223911508
Once a crowd reaches a density of 6/7 people per square meter, individual people become incapable for moving for themselves and become essentially particles making up a fluid. Once it reaches a density of 8 or more people per square meter people begin dying because they're packed so tightly together that their chests can no longer expand to allow them to breath. Fatal crushes happen all the time, there have already been five that have occurred this year where multiple people have died.

I think being strong might help? I was in a pretty packed crowd waiting for a rage against the machine reunion at Coachella 2007. The hour before they came on got pretty intense..at one point had my hands above my head and felt my ribs almost break... After that I made sure to keep my hands at my sides so I could lock my arms and kinda flex out to prevent getting crushed...this was in a crowd of a few thousand. But force coming from all directions. Being in a bottleneck may be different...

But I mean, like, I wonder how the deaths ended up occurring And in what areas in korea or various stadium crushes they have in the U. K... Like in a group of
Fifty or a hundred people(inside a much larger group) does everyone die or can some survive by being more fit, taller, etc.
>>

there's no shot you attempt to pull out from the bottom of the pile, right? i get that the individuals in most urgent danger will be at the bottom but the idea that you're going to just casually yoink em out is ridiculous. your best shot has to be assisting the still conscious individuals a layer or two deeper, a task which is made infinitely easier by them being able to move on their own, and hoping that one domino provides others around them the room to establish footing and/or start squirming free.

hey jackass I'm not saying I'm special, I'm genuinely asking why people in the videos we're watching don't respond quickly. more importantly I think your reading is correct and applies pretty well to the station video and the wedding video, but the nightclub fire with the zoomers clearly shows everyone not doing any of the shit you mention, people taking out phones and filming whilst fire spreads on the ceiling, which is retarded.

>In February 2008, Providence television station WPRI-TV and its then-owners LIN TV made an out-of-court settlement of $30 million as a result of the claim that their video journalist Brian Butler obstructed escape and did not sufficiently help people exit.
I didn't get that from watching the video at all? The guy got out quickly from a fire which as >>223906984 points out would have killed him if he'd waited even fifteen seconds longer. What does he do wrong in this video? Besides continue to film which imo he should've stopped the instant he leaves the building.

>Is it possible to make a movie about a crush?
As far as making a full runtime movie goes: you can pad out the film by throwing in flashback scenes.
As far as making a compelling story goes, can't say for sure.
>>
>>223916523
I feel like you could have a really effective crush scene(s) as part of a larger disaster.
>>
>>223916549
A zombie movie with a crush scene where the crushed dead ones rise up to eat the living would make 1b+ at the box office

>Paris fireworks disaster in 1770.
Hmm makes me think of how new technologies can also lead to new scales of disasters... All the unsafe shit that had to be discovered by trial and error during the Industrial Revolutions.

the Foundation tv show opens up with a scene about space terrorism where a space elevator is destroyed and tons of people die from the collapsing structure... Will that be a reality in our descendants' future?

Space disasters of the future will make night club fires looks a minor bad day. Basically everything that can wrong on a submarine if the submarine was the size of a cruise ship.

there was an FBI agent who described the tape recordings of the Toolbox Killers torturing their victims. he said if you seen a horror movie and a character gets tortured or killed, it's just acting, their screams are nothing like the sound of a real human being being tortured.

>Paul Bynum, the chief investigator of the murders committed by Bittaker and Norris, died by suicide in December 1987. He was 39 years old. In a ten-page suicide note,[12]:276 Bynum specifically referred to the murders committed by Bittaker and Norris as haunting him and of his fear they may be released from prison.[110]

I want to see a movie about the Erfurt disaster first.

you can hear just about a second or two of it in a documentary on those scumbags. a woman racing out of the courtroom during the playing of it to the jury. Even that is unforgettable. On YT.

During the Pulse nightclub shooting, police had sledgehammers and bashed a few holes on one side of the building.
If there's a fire, you'd probably only be able to escape through a door.
>>
>>223917109
I think they couldn't see the fire at first and didn't know what was happening. This kind of shit escalates real fucking fast.

because normalfags, not just zoomers, are borderline cattle and naturally as a consequence of this they won't know about things like flashovers
they see a fire slowly spreading and think they have time, someone will take care it no big deal
then suddenly the area gets hot enough to ignite the entire area just from the heat and suddenly time to go except oops everyone else just had that same idea and now they've jammed themselves in the door and now you're fucked
>>
>>223903371

159 deaths total. it was typically women and individuals of shorter stature that died during that crush incident.

women not only tend to be shorter but they're just weaker physically and will have a harder time creating space for themselves.

>but why manlets and womanlets
because the thing that kills you is the inability to expand your diaphragm. if you can get your mid-torso above the pressure then you'll avoid the asphyxiation. being shorter will also make it easier for you to end up below a pile and/or lose your footing as you ride the wave of flesh, at which point you're at the mercy of fluid dynamics.

> Bittaker was sentenced to death for five murders on March 24, 1981, but died of natural causes while incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State Prison in December 2019.

>Norris accepted a plea bargain whereby he agreed to testify against Bittaker and was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 7, 1980, with possibility of parole after serving thirty years. He died of natural causes at California Medical Facility in February 2020.

whenever anyone wants to talk about the death penalty being cruel and unusual I'll have to remember these guys got to live another 38+ years after being arresed.

Herd mentality. Individual thought and action is rare among people, especially when surrounded by others.

What really fucks with my mind is the people filming it on their phones.
There's no worry about this shit could be going bad, fast.
It's an immediate "gotta get this for social media."
Seeing stuff like that, I do wonder if vanity has replaced survival instincts.

It's a plain full face shield with compressor hose taped into the respirator and a schrader valve attachment stuck toward your mouth with a section of bike tire filled with styrofoam. When you push the tire valve into the attachment you get a hit of air and the excess just escapes at your ankles
