>God-tier animation, it's nearly CG fluid and the handful of times it drops back to sub 24-frame animation it looks like an actual error in comparison
>some pozzed moments on the level of shit that made Disney movies flop in 2021
>parents in my theater clearly took their kids not realizing the film was a hard PG-13
>end battle scene is comparable to the opening of Gladiator in terms of violence and I'm barely exaggerating
this movie is going to make literally no money
>>
It will win at least 4 oscars
>>

>this movie is going to make literally no money
Good. I don't like when hard working people become successful.
>>
which laika movies are good? only ever saw coraline
>>
>>223913807
>comparable to the opening of Gladiator in terms of violence
Some guy gets his head chopped off?
>>
If I wanted to watch Labyrinth, I would just watch Labyrinth and not some faggy remake in claymation. Puppets mog clay.
>>
>>223913807
according to /tv/ "pozzed" is just when the movie has females
>>
>>223913965
Coraline and kubo
Box trolls is mid
The bigfoot one is bad
This new one has absolutely amazing animation and will probably be the pinnacle of stop motion for a while but god damn the writing is pretty shit
>>
>>223913976
the evil witch decapitates someone and you see the head fly. numerous people are set on fire, people get stabbed in the face at close range, dozens of people get shot
>>223914112
there's some bits in the opening when she's riding around Portland and there's some gay shit there, and it goes out of its way to show one of the side characters is a lesbian
>>
>>223914112
It has a drag queen story hour sign in the opening and an old gay couple kissing as the focus of one scene
>>
Such a waste of time and money if you're going to spend it animating such a mid story and script. I say the same about Kubo.
>>
>>223913965
paranorman, the witch is hot
>>
>takes a 3 book trilogy and condenses it into a full movie
>movie ends up a mess with plotpoints that go nowhere and fucked pacing
Im saddened that so much effort went into making this because damn it turned out pretty rough. I dont even know how you would fix this on a conceptual level since making it a 2 parter with another 16 years inbetween wouldnt really be feasible. And despite that theres still the problem of the script itself being pretty terrible. Idk if the source material just sucks ass or what but some of that dialouge was horribly cringe.
>>
>>223914112
you realize having to reframe everything dishonestly is the main reason why you’re hated right?
>>
>>223914153
Yeah it’s Portland and the trailer signals that it’s gonna have woke shit, anyone can see that. Glad it’ll make negative dollars.

cgi slop is not stop motion. buy an ad and stop spamming these threads.

>Jeets can't even make an animated movie at a fluid frame rate for the entire run time.
Animation is dead as an art form.

If you support Laika you support republicans (pic related owns and funds that studio)

>making little girl look like a post wall roastie
Death knell for the movie
>>
Considering the age rating and the violence I was expecting some more profanity. A quiet whaaat-the-fuuuuuck from Prue upon first seeing magic wouldn't have been too far, but I don't think there were even any shits unless I missed them. Probably a good thing actually, kept it feeling more like a fairy tale.
Beautiful movie, go see this at your kinoplex.
>>
>>223914232
what are the worse bits anon?
>>
I want to watch it but I don't have any friends, it's over
>>
>>223913807
>the handful of times it drops back to sub 24-frame animation it looks like an actual error in comparison
Yeah. It's funny. The first 50-60% of the movie, I only saw flawless animation. I noticed it would drop whenever the old woman was on screen or sometimes when the giga nigger was there.

>>223914134
You like Kubo but think Wildwood has bad writing? I couldn't remember anything about the plot of Kubo the day after I watched it. The writing was bland and bad. Wildwood had an original story (some aspects were derivative of Labyrinth but whatever) and fairly well written characters. The dialogue was good. It shouldn't get nominated for any best screenplay awards, but it was good.
>>223914232
I felt the pacing was fine and the story made sense. Really the only gripes I had were the mansion people seemed completely disassociated with the rest of the world and I didn't understand why there was a big battle at the end. Why wouldn't the Governess go secretly to the place? What are the odds the Governess's forces get there at the same time as the bandits?. The movie enticed me to read the books. It seems like an interesting world. I especially like a fantasy universe where swords, muskets, cannons, and trebuchets are used. Gunpowder is never invented in fantasy.
>>
>>223914956
The gay shit is enough to make us skip it.
>>
>>223913807
its ugly, sorry.
>>
>>223915234
Whoever put the gay shit in should be executed. Gays should be executed. I fully understand the slippery slope is real and that there should be a zero tolerance policy on it. However, there are probably a grand total of 10-15 seconds when any faggotry is on screen. 3 seconds when "drag queen story hour" is on a sign in the background and 10 seconds where two women are reunited and hug each other.
>>
Moral of the story:
It's okay for vaguely semitic-looking people to break contracts with Aryans.

Don't really care if the story is dogshit because all children's movies have dogshit stories. I watch movies mainly for the visuals and Laika don't miss.
>>
What’s the point in referencing Coraline? Nobody seeing this knows that movie lol
>>
>>223915367
Coraline is the only movie they've made that made money
>>
>>223915234
There's very little "gay shit".
I think one of the forest bandits has a same sex partner or something, it's quite blink-and-you'll-miss-it.
There's a line along the lines of "when our son grows up and gets married, she or he or THEY will...". It's said by an Oregon hippie talking to his not-so-hippie daughter, doesn't feel out of place.
And finally a joke like
>cart driver: you are lord suchandsuch?
>girl: uh... yes
>driver: LORD?
>girl: yep
>driver, snapping out of suspicion and into happy acceptance: OH okay! letsgo
>>
>>223915324
>3 seconds when "drag queen story hour" is on a sign in the background
Three seconds too long. That shit disgusts me so I'm not supporting a project that includes it. Simple as that.
>>
>>223915324
NTA but you've swayed me, maybe I'll go see it.
>>
>>223913807
is this AI slop?

I didn't even clock the driver joke as tranny shit. I thought he was just a retard who could be easily convinced black is white.

Fair enough. I support your decision.

Anything with the hippies is pretty cringe in a deliberate way. But its not really bits and pieces that are cringe its the entire thing as a whole. Lots of quips going back and forth, lots of forced awkward scilence scenes trying to pass off as humorous, any dialouge spoken by the nerd kid which yes is meant to be annoying but that doesnt make it good. Then you have the whole structure of the film essentially being the girl getting dragged to different locations to get exposition dumped on. She herself doesnt feel like she has agency, its just
>hi girl here lore dump go meet with person
>meets person
>hi girl heres lore dump go here meet person
>meets person
>hi girl heres...
You get the idea. I dont really blame it for being structured like this, since theyre cramming an entire trilogy of books worth of world building into a 2 hour long movie and admittedly the world building is good, but its at the expense of the other aspects of the film. I cant help but feel like they should have just cut out everything involving the governor and the manson, then maybe rolled the owl and the falcon general into the same character, because as it is that whole 40 minute segment just exists to give the girl a reason to get lore dumped on by the owl.
Also
>why wouldnt the governess go there secretly
There was already an bandit encampment there. She knew people would be there to stop her and even if she just brought a small militia group we're shown multiple times from the very beginning that the coyotes are not competent aside from that high ranking one.

Coraline is still massively popular yes even by zoomers and still has tons of merch. Although i dont think gen alpha knows about it and theyre entering their teenage years now.
>>
I don't get the popularity of Coraline.
When I first saw it on release I was expecting something similar to Nightmare Before Christmas given it was by the same Director but it's so fucking bland in comparison and self contained
>>
>>223915921
Exposition dumps are lazy writing, but all in all it was fine. I was able to piece together a fair amount without the exposition dumps. Only the owl and the parents' dumps gave a bunch of shit you couldn't have had a chance to figure out otherwise.

I also felt like she had the perfect amount of agency. She wasn't a Mary Sue. She also did some shit that felt like she was an actual character.

And thanks for the clarification on the battle.

It appeals to a certain type of alternative womanchild. Everyone I know who has spoken highly of it has tattoos, piercings outside of the earlobe, and/or unnaturally dyed hair.

Laughs in 80-00s children movies
>>
>>223916493
This genuinely is too dark and mature of young children. Idk id probably take a 12 year old to see it but definitely not younger than that.
>>
>>223916509
What kind of faggotry is this? When I was a kid, me and most of my classmates had watched Terminator, Robocop and total Recall at that age, with no issues, awesome movies.
>>
Can anyone point me towards any cam of this, even if it's completely unwatchable? I had to run for a piss and just want to check exactly what I missed.
(Went towards the end of Prue flying on the bird, came back to the jail. From what I gather, it wasn't ideal timing, but much better than risking missing one of the exposition flashbacks.)

>>223916509
>>223916887
I've always thought there's an interestingly big gap between the kind of thing we're happy to officially approve as being suitable for children, and the kind of thing that 95% of kids will happily watch with no real problems.
I bet everyone in this thread watched far more adult things than this at ages much younger then 12, and I know I would've loved this movie when I was ~9. But I also know my parents wouldn't have knowingly taken me to see a movie that opens with a naked boy committing suicide in front of his mother.

Part of it might be that it's hard to tell the difference between a child who's scared/tense/shocked/confused but enjoying that feeling and happy to keep exploring it, vs one who would rather just leave but doesn't want to admit that. Plus concerns about nightmares and awkward conversations about death and suchlike. Still.

It's another astroturfed russian bot buzzword that means "something I don't like". None of the terms have any actual meaning. You can normally guarantee it by the inevitable mind raped tranny obsessed replies trying to refute it.

>inb4 tranny, meds, ack, etc etc.

This year has been weaponizing animation to its detriment.
I'm just gonna watch it cause the dude did a cool job with Kubo, Bumblebee and at least tried with He-Man..
>>
>>223915058
I'm alone for at least 2/3rds of the movies I watch, including this one. It's a complete non-issue. Go see it.

This one is fully "pozzed" though. My christian sister was going to take her family uptill she heard and saw some stuff online. She's not a super prude or anything though. They love coraline and paranorman
