>>223919098writers strike really destroyed the series's momentum. And then the plot went to utter nonsense. Also the idiot playing billy's character wouldn't commit to the show so they killed him off. Wonder if he regrets it now
Weren't they trying to reboot it again recently? Just like LotR they can never recapture that magic.
>>223919120>Also the idiot playing billy's character wouldn't commit to the show so they killed him off.lol poor Billy, even the actor who played him fucked him over.
>>223919120Is that really why they killed him off? He had such a promising career and it seems to have died with ST.
>>223919120The most frustrating thing about BSG is that it can't help being good even when it's trying to be bad.

>>223919247I really wanted that dogshit show to be good.
>>223919166> So after that kind of gave me the ultimatum and said sign a contract for 5 years, or we kind of need to go our separate ways. And I kind of put it off and put it off, then eventually they just said "Look, we can tell your not really committed to the show, and we can’t write story lines. So we’ve decided to kill the character. It wasn’t really a surprise, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen when it did. But I certainly wasn’t surprised that they had to do that.

>>223918587She looked so sweet and innocent. I hope she's happy these days.
>>223919524It's a catch-22 that every showrunner finds himself in at some point. As a writer you want to have a satisfying roadmap for your story but you also don't want to lock yourself in to a predetermined path and lose a sense of spontaneity and mystery. Ultimately though I think it's wise to just give the people what they expect in the end. TV audiences have invested too much time and emotion into your characters to just accept whatever harebrained ideas you might have that might make sense to you but not the average fan.

>>223919234>how dare a TV series have a weird sci fi plot
I posted this in /trek/ a short time ago but I'm watching BSG for the first time and I can't stop nooticing all the plot and character stuff ripped straight from DS9 and even a little from Voyager. It really feels like Ron Moore had such a bad time on VOY that he told Brannon Braga that he was going to make his own Voyager with blackjack and hookers.
>>223918587Adama should've kept the stache desu
>>223919863Was Braga the one known to be a piece of shit to the writers and cast? VOY had potential but the swings in quality of certain episodes was really disorienting
>>223919863He's not wrong, I'd much prefer following the crew of the USS Equinox as they struggle in the Delta Quadrant than Voyager since Captain Ransoms post episode reset button was apparently not working anymore

>>223919247Is it true that she’s a slut IRL?
>>223918611>>223919142I was rewatching all the Carries since Amazon has them all on Prime. Kandyse McClure who played Dee from BSG played Sue Snell in the 2002 version and there's a decent amount of beefcake bra and panties shots.
>>223921285Why did they randomly make him get fat anyway
No other show made me so upset with how much it goes off the cliff in terms of quality in the last season. Starbuck, the original "turn her into a chick and make it gay" recast, was actually a cool character for the first 2 seasons, after which she becomes a drunk neurotic bitch who you would avoid in a wide arch every time you see her. Then she died, came back, and just disappeared again at the end. The explanation for this lazy ass writing? Well uuhm, it's just religious magic nibba.
>>223922158its god nigga, I don't gotta explain shit
>>223921652to show the decline and that he'd basically given up and lost all discipline, obviously
>>223922158Pretty much made me avoid Ronald D. Moore written stuff. You see it in for all humainity or whatever its called. It's like it's great the first 1-2 seasons because he had time to prepare, but after that it's all down hill.
>>223922158>>223922448Did Moore have a shit ton of job opportunities lobbed at him like those GOT fags Benioff and Weiss? That's the only thing I can think would contribute to such a rapid decline like that. Not to mention SYFY killing the golden programming block that was both Stargates and BSG on Fridays.
>>223922503RDM does what he wants, he isn't a preening drama queen like Dabid and Dabid. He just makes what he wants goals achieved everything after is just gravy
>>223918625Because we repeat the same patterns
>>223922503BSG was critically loved but a ratings shitshow. Scifi pulled the plug when they gave up on good reviews turning into good viewership.
>>223919524Having all the answers from day one doesn’t guarantee the show will be good either. In fact it can fuck things up if you lock yourself to a direction that doesn’t work because audiences don’t like it. Or something unpredictable happens tjat derails things. That’s why television is a collaborative medium and needs to adapt and evolve as the show progresses because you can’t predict everything and often you come up better ideas as the show proceeds.
If Admiral Cain had executed Helo during the can't rape a machine case, he couldn't have ruined the genocide cylons by disease plan.

Imagine how good Lost and Battlestar Galactica both would have been if they had been planned out like Babylon 5
>>223923151best girl did, repeatedly and with great enthusiasm.
>>223923193the cylons did are you retarded? world war they killed each other thats why the 5 had a plan to escape it.
Has any sci-fi as well produced as BSG come out since?
>>223922963He did it >>223923229. Even then there is a middle ground between "plan out X seasons with contingencies in place in case you lose actors" and "plan the pilot and then just improvise from there" and a lot of mystery box shows seem to be the latter.

>>223923869Awful (main) casting
>>223924093The awfulness of those two is balanced out by Thomas Jane.
>>223924902Who dies
>>223924922They even had Jared Harris as Thomas Jane's main antagonist and they threw it away. If they had given the Ceres plotlines more consideration he might have stayed.
>>223924978Yeah it was such a fucking shame. I'm still mad over it too
>>223921241iirc she went untreated with bipolar for a good chunk of her life and had some manic phases. if my personal experience with bipolar girls, she certainly could have been.
>>223923936The Pegasus arc was taken straight from the original BSG.
>>223918611battlestar sex with tigh's eyesocket
>>223923551And you know why that was possible for Babylon 5? Because Straczynski wrote nearly every single episode, which is extremely rare for any TV show, and he basically had to go out of his way to make sure every single character from the start had a pre-planned exit strategy in case they suddenly had to be written out of the show. And he still had to massively rework the plans when it looked like the show was going to be cancelled with season four.
I'm close to the end of the series now. It's been a wild ride. S4 has been a mixed bag so far but it can still lock in and cook when it wants to. I'm setting my expectations low for the finale, but because of that I might actually end up liking it more than I thought. Who knows? Taken as a whole though it's still a great series.
