Devoid of context? Star wars
As part of a trilogy? Empire

Star Wars. It's the hero's journey; a story older than history. It has a perfect three act plot. It's got good music. It's got good special effects. It's got good dialog. It's enjoyable by anyone and everyone. It "just works." Empire only works as a movie with the context of the previous movie setup and with the knowledge its story will be resolved in a sequel. It's by no means a bad movie; it's still like a 9.8/10, just Star Wars is a 10/10. The 10/10. I'm hard pressed to think of a better movie than Star Wars, especially if you're old enough to have seen it in theaters.

The critics had it right initially. Empire is dull as fuck and only got reappraised because ROTJ made them cringe and want more content

Empire

Neither. They are both shit B movies for manbabies. And the rest of Star Wars is much worse. except for Andor of course.

Empire is by far the best film in the trilogy. If critics said that they are absolutely insane.

Half of the movie is just the Gang hiding from Darth Vader inside a space vagina

Star Wars is the better movie.
Empire Strikes Back is better on virtually every technical level, but it suffers by being squished in between a movie that was written as if it didn't know it was getting a sequel, and relying on its own sequel to tie up all of its loose ends, and as it happens that sequel of a sequel (and a lot of those loose ends, in my opinion) suck donkey balls, so you can't even rate ESB by itself unfortunately.
The worst part is that I fucking love Hoth, but narratively it's so goofy, especially if you're marathoning the trilogy. Hard cut from celebration of the presumed end of the Empire to the Rebels being in dire straits, again, an arc you just saw begin and resolved less than two hours ago, along with the Empire being portrayed as stronger than ever.
And then it just kinda goes off the rails. Lots of good character development but Cloud City always feels like filler to me. I wish Leia and Han had just stayed with the Rebels. Not to mention I absolutely abhore the retarded ass video game logic of the climax at Cloud City.
>Dude, I need to freeze Luke in carbonite to transport him to the Emperor because... I just do, okay?!
What the fuck is this shit. Vader has such a good buildup too, and then he just turns into a moron. I still have no goddamn clue what the purpose of him revealing himself as Luke's father was.

star wars because sequels are inherently inferior.

77 easy. ESB isn't even Top 3 Star Wars movies.

Empire is peak. Gem that show you how SW could be. And none ever achive it again. Not even close. Maybe because Empire is not made for kids. I even enjoy parts with Solo and Leia. I don't like them in other movies.
