something will happen I promise

yeah, it's trash. the premise is spooky but then they drag you by the nose for 4 seasons of nothing happening. 90% of the episodes is dumb relationship drama filler and then something unexpected happens at the end. i was watching it on 2-3x speed and even just outright skipping the "therapy session" scenes where one character acts upset and another consoles him, every episode has 3-4 of these. you know every single time when 2 characters go off to the side to discuss some shit, it's just filler bullshit that doesn't matter. "you ok, buddy" "everything alright, donna" "what's wrong, julie" for fuck's sake... i get that they don't have tampons in the pocket dimension but can you shut the fuck up already?? sheesh...

it gets worse lol

It’s a good binge watch like if you’re home sick or something put it on and power through a lot of the more annoying characters get dealt with

90% of the show is theater kid shit. Two characters giving monologues and trying to show you how good of an actor they are. It's borderline improv. They scream about nothing and start drama just to show you that they can act, which only comes across as amateurish. Those outbursts are not relevant to what is happening and lead to nothing, it's pure filler, which is why those scenes almost always end by a character going ''I got to do something, we'll talk about this later.'' They don't know how to end the scene because there is no scene. Two characters are locked in dialogue and they have to create forced drama for a bit.

The actual meat of the story are these bigger scenes that took more effort to film and have some kind of script. Each season is essentially a new threat but the threat gets so little attention you get nothing, then the next season comes and it's a different threat. This leaves the viewer confused. How are the monsters who can't come inside related to invisible butterflies that live inside your body and kill you from inside? The answer is that they are not related. Every season does its own thing. But it's hard to tell what is important and how it all connects because you just watched a 10 minute scene of the main actor talking to a grave trying to show off that he is a good actor.
The show will never expand on anything because they are not good writers and not confident in their abilities so they throw a concept at you and keep it vague. They watch the reaction of the viewers and if viewers liked something they will make it return 2 seasons later.
