Watching movies from the 80s/90s with teenagers in it (no matter highschool or college age) bullying seems like thrope thats shown all the time.

Was bullying really this prevalent in the US?
Was it really that brutal?
Is it still like this?
>>
This thread reeks.
>>
>>223922674
No it's just a metaphor for all the actual real subtle everyday bullying people go through
>>
>>223922690
Of what?
>>
It cooled off around the columbine incident. People just iced another out or were passive aggressive. Only real lowlifes got physical and then they were gone. 3 o' cloch high is a good high school movie for the right attitude to have, a fucking underrated classic.
>>
>>223922674
It existed, but it was never as public as movies made it because that was how you got in trouble for it sometimes. Usually it was daily tormenting that varied on how many people were around and who they were. As far as the brutality goes it really depends on the who, what, where, when, and why. It is very nuanced.
>>
>>223922674
It was like that when I was in high school...class of 1984 here.
>>
It happened to me as well but that was only a bigger kid (as in fat) but also taller and the little faggots felt intimidated, their fears were proven right when I got into lifting and turns out I do have a good frame. It didn't help that they grew in abusive households, they weren't the "good looking, good at sports" type.

am European btw so dunno what goes on in the usa

it's a metaphor for micro racisms, the biggest problem humanity is facing

Yeah everyone bullied everyone. True.
>>
>>223922871
In most movies the bullying is done by whites against whites. Only in a few movies you have a white female bullies black female trope
>>
>>223922674
Not just in the 80s and 90s either, but in this century as well.

Its really strange, in American TV and films high school is shown to be almost semi-feral, i'd understand if it was just in shows set in inner-city Baltimore or Chicago schools filled to the brim with the basketball playing demographic but most are set with majority whites and in middle-class areas and yet hardcore bullying is depicted as common place.

These characters are supposed to be 16-18, i'd understand if it was 11 years old but they're young adults at this stage. When I was in Sixth Form at that age there was nothing like that, peer relationships were fairly calm.
>>
>>223922674
I was called a lot of names and pushed around. Teacher might leave and half the class would hit me in the head while the rest watched.
>>
>>223922986
I went to all white private schools btw
>>
My Bodyguard is a great high school bullying movie if you haven't seen it.
>>
>>223922986
Im sorry to hear that anon
>>
I’ve been told by zoomers that there were never any fights at their school, all the bullying consisted of online shit talking and whatnot.
I remember in the 90’s if you wore a Marilyn Manson shirt walking to the store carloads of rich jocks could pull up on you and it was a fight.
These zoomer niggers need to realize we fought for their right to be cringe.
>>
A lot of talk shows in the 90's like Jenny Jones had episodes about adults confronting bullies from their youth. Maybe that helped bring attention to the problem.
>>
>>223922986
Did you fight back as you should? Did you give any pushback or just took it like a mouse a cat plays with?
>>
>>223923121
He might have had parents that would kick his ass too if he got into any trouble at school. I knew friends like that.
>>
>>223923005
I wish i could say it toughened me up. Maybe it kinda did. Im always prepared for physical violence.

>>223923121
I fought a few times, had my nose broken in 6th grade. I was a skrawny kid and did not really have the ability to fight even one of my opponents, let alone all of them.

Ended up getting a bit more scrappy as i got older. One time i got jumped by two dudes and fought them both. I lift now, and i have been told offhandedly that it would hurt to get punched by me.

But i do have a very specific memory of much older and larger kids hitting me while i just tried to avoid their blows because it was all i could do. I ended up just covering my head and put my face in my lap as i sat in my desk.
>>
Yeah. What isn't usually accurate is the hierarchy of bullying. You'd think there was just bullies and victims, but in reality this group bullied that group, then that group bullied another group and that group another. There really wasn't anyone innocent. Everyone passed it on down.
>>
>>223923021
That's funny because every day I see news about kids stabbing each other,20 people gangs beating up one person because of internet comments(even girl gangs in many cases) and all that however I do live in a Balkan shit hole where trap starts+low I.Q+internet brain rot is prominent. And of course having so many Albanians and Georgian immigrants adds to the fuel
>>
>>223923215
Good lad. Godspeed.
>>
>>223923238
There is a difference between students and criminals no?
>>
>>223923447
No difference here apparently
>>
As a zoomie I cant belive people would just hat other people for existing lol. There was no real bullying in my school besides that one guy that said the n word and was beat up several times because of it but he deserved it
>>
>>223922953
that's why it's a metaphor
>>
>>223922674
I heard a guy just five years older than me say he used to get spat on and rocks thrown at him every day. Really glad I wasn't born a millennial.

Yes.
It was time when men were men and vying for dominance and your place in hierarchy came naturally.
Most people actually enjoy hierarchies.

Bullying is a bogeyman the problem was always that we are packing kids into cramped, rigid social spaces without giving them a reason to like or respect one another.

This. Bullying was insane in the 70s and 80s. And I think it was even worse for earlier generations. My mother bullied a kid so hard in school that he killed himself
And it wasn't just other students, it was the teachers too. I had a teacher slap me around and hold me upside down over a toilet and threaten to flush me down. Luckily, I could tell that I was too big to flush so I wasn't scared

>Was bullying really this prevalent in the US?
Basically if you acted like a fag you got your shit called out. Nobody cared if you like cringe like DBZ or anime in general. Kamehameha in the the hallway or where obnoxious merch clothing? You're getting called a fag. Dress and act like a normal person and just so happen to be into DBZ and don't act like a sperg? That's cool, dude.

>Was it really that brutal?
If things got physical you were a massive obnoxious fag who fucked up more times than he deserved or you happened to get in the crosshairs of the school psycho who came from the trashy home. The type who will guaranteed be in jail or dead within 10 years, maybe even 5. If you were in shape and knew basic fighting or even defended yourself once physically then people usually never got physical with you.

>Is it still like this?
In a Bizzaro way. Niggers and browns can do whatever they want and nothing happens unless the school is predominantly white and make it clear they don't play that shit (think the Karmelo incident recently). As for mainly white schools it's not as bad and more online than physical. More subtle, passive jabs than direct, "You dress like a faggot, Mark" type shit. You got a lot of browns at your school? You BETTER learn to fight and you BETTER learn to submit a police report if they become a problem.

Shoving nerds into lockers and beating the shit out of them was very much a boomer thing and didn't exist at all after 2000.
Modern "bullying" is just Chad smirking at Stacy whenever the nerd talks in clas.

im happy for those of you that didn't experience bullying in school. Me? I probably have undiagnosed PTSD from what I experienced in the 90s.

Hell must be like going to a school located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd as a white boy.

oh look I found one of my old yearbooks

page 1 is similar in style to the mural under the Eiffel tower
