>trying to find the scariest movies of all time for Halloween>look up lists online>Jaws: When I saw the scary shark when I was 2 years old, back in 1948, the shark jumped out and gave me such a fright!>the exorcist: when the demon popped out and said "fuck shit!" my sensibilities were so rattled and unnerved!>AND NUMBER 1 SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! THE SHINING!These movies aren't bad, but holy shit they are not scary
>>223922728>old moviesNew ones aren't scary, either. Movies aren't scary unless you're younger than 7 years old.
>>223922728Not enough jumpscares?
>>223922742sounds like a you problem. when I’m watching kino I am immersed, locked the fuck in. I saw Final Destination last year and cried so hard I threw up on myself. had to be escorted out.
Horror movies aren't scary when you're past being a kid. At best they can be creepy or a little unsettling. The criticism of "x horror movie isn't scary" is kinda dumb
>>223922808Then why am I in my 40s and still screaming at the absolute top of my fucking lungs when I watch a horror movie
>>223922808This. If you're a man and you still find horror movies "scary", you're a pussy. Sorry.
>>223922808Still doesn't excuse or explain why retards keep putting the exorcist as NUMBER ONE SCARIEST MOVIE! just because it's old.
>>223922728The real question is, How would you feel if you did not have breakfast this morning?
people really going around saying the ending of the 1958 the fly is the scariest thing they've ever seen
>>223922847I’d feel like doordashing a sack of McChickens
no movies are scary unless you're an 8-year old girl.
>>223922728The Crucifix masturbation scene made me wince a little. But yeah, today that'll probably happen next season on Hazbin Hotel and be played for laughs.
Terribly sorry for our ignorance, that was before the time of liminal spaces and scary girlfriend who does funny faces
>>223922863seriously, do you guys just hate fun? I’m a big bearded metalhead with tattoos and I have literally taken a shit in my pants because the movie was so scary.
>>223922808Agreed. Comfy horror is a thing, one of the most famous English horror writers in literature M. R. James even had his own name for it, he called it "a pleasing terror" in his 1929 essay "Some Remarks on Ghost Stories" where he argued that effective horror should be a subtle, chilling experience rather than a lurid shock. Nowadays, "horror" has become an endurance fest where everything has to be as extreme as possible due to a natural, and frankly inevitable, desensitization to violence and depravity in the modern world.
>>223922742>>223922808You're autistic or don't know how to immerse yourself in a story properly.
>>223922728>holy shit they are not scaryneither is the Backrooms or whatever you zoomies piss and shit yourselves over
I couldn't watch the movie where daisy ridley plays a corpse
>>223922970>a big bearded metalheadSo a pussy? >>223922728We get more and more desensitised to horror with each new film. Watch Netflix series about Ed Gain, it has a subplot /alternative story line about directors making movies based on his crimes getting more and more gory just keep in mind his girlfriend is not real she was attention whore who dated him for like a week and tried to capitalize on the fame
>>223922728I don't know it was pretty scary in the shining when he had sex with an ugly woman. Also they just talk to a black man without an inch of prejudice. It really eeked me out.
>>223922863Eyes wide shut.
>>223922728Jaws gave me an unjustified fear of sharks for life, so it is very scary to me in that senseI'd say The Omen is one of the creepiest
The first 20 minutes of Traumatika are terrifying
>>223922728I never understood being afraid of a movie. Even as a child none of this shit ever really scared me aside from cheap ass jump scares. I just cannot suspend my disbelief to such a degree that I ever can feel in danger enough to be scared. Especially of stuff I know not to be real like big monsters or Freddy Kruger. Freddy was always more of a dark comedy character to me.
>>223922769Lmao you wot m8? Final destination isn't scary. That's another in the so ridiculous it's funny category. Dark humor, not scary. Even funnier to me seeing the normies taking that shit seriously and for real getting all freaked out and having to change lanes when behind a trailer hauling wood.
>>223922819Cause you're a little bitch boy, that's why.
99% of movie criticism is just trying to justify nostalgia, that's why so many of the "top movies of all time" are black and white shit from the 1940s, because that's what movie critics in the 1990s grew up with, not because it's inherently better.
>>223922728anon, you can't be scared by movies after you turn 14at least jump scares cause a physical reaction
>>223922970Those things don't make you not a pussy though. If you've gotten so scared that you shit your britches at moving pictures on a screen then you're bitch made.
>>223922847>/pol/cel trying to be funny
>>223924583>>223924622I literally have tattoos and drive a pick up truck
>>223923466Oh make no mistake I can be immersed in other genres no problem. I can be filled with joyful feelings, I've cried at movies but being scared to me requires true belief that I'm in some sort of danger and that just doesn't mesh with the setting of me in my cozy living room in pajamas.
>>223922728scary stuff is made for females, because they cant control being afraid.no man actually watches anything like this because nothing is actually scary.
>>223924571people dying in horrific ways is pretty scary to me because I’m an empath
>>223924673Oh ok you're having a giggle eh? Good one mate. You almost had me believing you think those things make you tough or something.
>>223922819too much estrogen in your body. lay off the onions redditor.
Jaws makes me nervous whenever i go to the beach so it kinda scary. Tusk makes me never dare to search "walrus" until the day i die because that fucking movie keeps getting recommended whenever i search the animal's name.
>>223924699Be honest. You would be shaking in your boots when I drive by blasting Iron Maiden.
>>223924692Except no, because those people aren't dying anon, they're actors and cgi.
>>223923490>piss and shit yourselves over>zoomiesLol. Lmao even.
I had this dream last night about a monster made of ice cream sticks and there was just this nothingness inside him. He was called Mr Prix or Mr Pricks Sticks and I was sort of laughing at the concept at first. There was actually two and together they were called Dark Marx. At one point I was in a boat in the dark and I could see their ice cream stick faces in a dark doorway and it did start to scare me a bit. I get taunting them calling them to come but not actually wanting them to come near me and I was screaming something about justice, I might have been screaming in real life and I awoke in a cold sweat
>>223922728The scariest thing that generation had ever experienced was kennedy being shot and modern generations watched snuff films on the internet when they were 10. The scariest thing to them is being in a relationship with a boy they don't like.
>>223924766I'm a zoomer myself and people of my generation keep passing around shock horror stuff like some sort of sick joke, it is kinda annoying. But to be fair, they spent time reading Jeff the killer and violent creepypasta back then so it kinda make sense why they are so desensitive.
>>223922769God damn you should like a super faggot. That’s disgusting man.
The only scary movies are old movies. But something like Jaws or The Shining is too recent to be called old.And the only scary movies are conceptual and suggestive, not visual. Something grotesque can invoke momentary disgust but disgust isn't horror to me, I adjust to forget it almost immediately, that's how the human brain works to tangible threats. Good horror is something that lingers in the brain. The Haunting 1963 is good, Whistle and I'll Come to You 1968 is good, The Woman in Black 1989 is good, Lake Mungo is good.
"We could never equal Buchenwald," said its final director, Charles Nonon. "Before the war, everyone felt that what was happening onstage was impossible. Now we know that these things, and worse, are possible in reality."
>>223924848>Something grotesque can invoke momentary disgust but disgust isn't horror to me>Lake Mungo is goodLake Mungo wouldn't be as scary if it didn't have that flying bloated corpse.
