Holifucking kino.
Very emotional movie. It deserved its billie.
Peter learning that rejection is better than regret and now he can finally move on (or not).
All the guest stars. The chubby best friend having the muscle memory of their secret hand shake.
Jean grey talking to a memory of aunt may (they pulled the same shit in Days of Future Past but its still kino)
The v-max backstory thing, fucking sick. Sara grey, experimented on, dying, reaches out telepathically to her sister, the last living person she cares for, but cant formulate a coherent thought, can only transmit the word she is reading on the ceiling.
Kinooooooooooooooooo
Oh and Sadie Sink rocks, I will forgive her for being a womanlet jean grey.

It was good but it could've been way better. It feels like the movie wanted to make Jean a fixture in Peter's personal life in the future, but then it remembered she's an x-man who belongs to a different franchise so it clumsily shooed her out of the story in a way that felt inorganic and abrupt.
>>
>>223923266
Jean Grey stopping her revenge in its track just because people she never met asked was also a bit weak.

this, the movie wanted peter x jean connection (spider man insta really focuses on their bond) but mcu does not want to

To the contrary, one of the producers said something like
>We'll make a 5th one as soon as Tom and Zendaya are available again

They might be kind of an inseparable unit in real life at this point, it's harder to get Tom to cooperate if you're trying to exclude his wife

Agreed, it was a really well made movie. I think its because Tom actually listens to his fans.
>Destin Daniel Cretton would originally direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. When Marvel redeveloped it into Avengers: Doomsday, he dropped out. Kevin Feige then offered him Spider-Man: Brand New Day and put him in contact with Sony execs Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman, who were searching for a new director after Jon Watts from the Home trilogy declined to return, and Cretton’s pitch landed him the job.
>Other directors in consideration were Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Uncharted), Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale), Justin Lin (Fast and Furious, Star Trek Beyond), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) and Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life, Batgirl).
>Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers decided early on that mind control would be part of the plot. Their original choice for the villain was the Chameleon, but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. They cycled through several other villains like Mister Negative and the Spider Queen before landing on Jean Grey.
>Tom Holland produced the film and compiled a document with everything fans had been asking for, such as a practical suit and street-level stakes, to serve as a creative guideline. He was also adamant about having a complete draft before production started to avoid the post-production issues of the Home trilogy.
>Zendaya recruited Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes to polish the Peter/MJ scenes. She also suggested that MJ get along well with the Punisher and be fascinated by his lifestyle rather than dislike him as in the original script.
>>
>>223923188
no lmao, she's coming back
>>
>>223923188
>is it confirmed she wont be returning?
Lol no. Recently she and the spiderman actor got married. If anything, you're gonna be seeing more of her than ever before in these films. Yay.
>>
>>223928387

>>
>>223925019

>>
>>223928617

>>
>>223927749
>Holland’s first pitch for the plot was rejected for being too similar to Captain America: Brave New World. Spider-Man fighting the Hulk was moved from the third act to the midpoint for the same reason.
>Before Bill Metzger, the director of the Department of Damage Control was a woman based on an obscure X-Men villain, the Leper Queen. Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Carrie Coon and Sarah Snook all turned down the role before it was rewritten into Metzger.
>The Rhino, 8-Ball, Big Wheel, Paste Pot Pete and the Enforcers are among the villains that were cut from the opening montage. They developed 50 recreations of classic comics covers, but only used five.
>The original ending featured Jean controlling all the supervillains Spider-Man had arrested in the opening montage into attacking him simultaneously, but it was ultimately scaled down to Spider-Man fighting DODC guards and the Hand.
>The Hand had a bigger role in an earlier draft, with Silver Samurai as their leader. Cretton liked the concept of Spider-Man fighting an army of ninjas too much and kept them in as DODC enforcers.
>Cretton wanted to introduce the Bar with No Name where low-level supervillains hang out, but it didn’t fit the narrative.
>There were plans for a nightmare sequence where Peter turns into Man-Spider, but it was deemed too scary for kids.
>In addition to Punisher, Hulk and Black Widow, Captain America and Shang-Chi were also considered to appear in the movie.
>Savage Hulk would originally be grey, but the studio decided it would confuse audiences. They considered several different interpretations, some in which he walks on all four and is constantly twitching from pure rage, some in which he is eloquent and vengeful after years imprisoned in Banner’s mind, before landing on the final version.
>A deleted segment of the fight has a water main breaking, and Hulk attempting to drown Spider-Man by holding him underwater, which the studio cut as it made the Hulk too villainous.
>>
i aint reading all that ^
>>
>Spider-Man would originally knock out the Hulk with the Shocker gauntlet, but test-audiences thought he was defeated too easily, so they reshot it to the Hulk easily destroying the gauntlet, and attempting to kill himself after Spider-Man manages to calm him down by reminding him of their friendship.
>Rosario Dawson filmed a scene as Claire Temple that was deleted from the final cut. She now runs an underground clinic for vigilantes, and Spider-Man visits her to get patched up after his fight with the Scorpion.
>Another deleted scene features the doctor operating on Spider-Man after he is shot choosing to keep his mask on to preserve his secret identity. Meanwhile, the Punisher clashes with the police officers outside.
>A deleted running gag featured spiders being drawn to Peter following his mutation, and following him wherever he went.
>The ending scenes of MJ sitting on the school rooftop and holding the necklace Peter gave her, and Ned instinctively doing his and Peter’s handshake were filmed in a deliberately ambiguous way. MJ and Ned could have regained their memories, or MJ may simply be developing feelings for Peter all over again, while Ned connected the dots after MJ called Spider-Man “Peter” earlier.
>The flashback scene of Jean and her sister Sara in the park was added in reshoots to further establish their bond. Despite Sara being the older sister, her actress is 15 while Sadie Sink is 23.
>Sink revealed that there was a cut where Jean verbalizes that V-Max was just the faded sticker in the air vent of the cell where Sara died and that her actions were for nothing, but it was ultimately decided Jean’s heartbroken expression after seeing the sticker and realizing the truth got the point across well enough.
>Holland revealed that they tested an alternative ending where MJ and Ned regain their memories at the studio's behest in case audiences reacted negatively to the ambiguous version they favored, but that version actually tested higher.
>>
Jean Grey was ridiculously evil in this movie. Completely retarded and irredeemable. The hate against mutants in-universe is looking pretty fucking reasonable

So what you're saying is the movie was good purely by accident, because the creation process was mostly about throwing random shit at the wall without a plan while hoping something sticks? Great.

Also
>Holland revealed that they tested an alternative ending where MJ and Ned regain their memories
So the plan is to just revert the memory wipe? That's fucking terrible. Half of the reason BND was good was because MJ and Ned weren't a big part of it. Fuck me.

The whole romantic arc between them it's closed, they most probably stay as friends. And her being named Michelle Jones means she could stay doing cameos while Mary Jane comes in a sequel.
I've read here on some thread that Snood is being considered to play Gwen Stacy. If true, that means they will stick to comic canon more closely, and that Spidey will end with a redhead waifu.

wow
what were the post-production issues of the Home trilogy?
>>
>>223932795
>what were the post-production issues of the Home trilogy?
The movies were shot with an incomplete script, then there were massive re-shoots that needed to be done because they finished the script and there were scenes that now needed to be filmed or scenes that needed to be shot that replaced earlier scenes shot for continuity purposes.
>>
>>223929139
Last one.
>Holland and Jon Bernthal are longtime friends and helped each other through their Marvel auditions. Bernthal refuses to portray the Punisher in PG-13 projects, but made an exception for Holland. Due to their natural chemistry, Peter and Frank’s dynamic changed from them hating each other to them having a brotherly rivalry.
>There were 3 takes of the ending, one where Michelle and Ned recover their memories, one where they don't and an ambiguous one. But the fans didn't like them recovering their memories and after pushback the studio decided to leave it ambiguous.

I liked it. My biggest problem was how wishy-washy they are with all the destruction wreaked by Jean. All the potentially hundreds of people injured and, let's face it, potentially killed is all just handwaved away like it's nothing.
I did like V-Max not actually being a weapon or regular McGuffin, that was a neat twist.
Also because it wasn't actually MJ kissing Peter but rather Jean inside her head, I still believe that MJ can find her memories again, it just needs to be HER.

>handwaved away like it's nothing.
Just to play doubles advocate, NYC in the MCU has mass casualty super hero fights like once every couple of years.
Not to mention this one had a government agency kidnapping and killing kids with super powers to figure out how to mind control people from a distance at the center of it, plenty of reason to cover it up and tell everyone it was a gas leak.
And it isn't like anyone knew who Jean was besides spider man and the inner circle of the department of badguy stuff.
Also hopefully since we have Hyperion and the void, maybe we can avoid the dark fucking phoenix since you star Jean off as a bit of a monster and redeem her from there.
Or maybe Adam Warlock/The Magus, Hyperion/The Void, and Jean/The Phoenix all team up for a tag team match against each other.

It's literally the same theme as every other Spider-Man movie, including the Raimi trilogy. The character (like most comic characters) is very one-note and really has nothing else to do, and even if he did he'd likely be retreading a story/theme we've already seen a dozen times in the MCU alone. Long-form media like this shouldn't really exist.
That being said, I give Brand New Day credit for not looking cinematically like garbage the same way the other three did. That alone makes it the only one worth rewatching.

It's always so jarring when you actually get a good actor in one of these movies. Sadie was sprinting laps around everyone in the movie. Her emotional scenes actually have some weight to them, her mannerisms, the way her voice breaks and you can feel the emotions when she is angry or sad. Tom did a good job as well but I wished that Zendaya and the dude that plays Ned had less screentime. It should have focused on his isolation more and how his friends would never truly understand what its like to have powers and the responsibility that comes with it. A bleak message but it would have been better than him just going over to Ned at the end and instantly being friends again. Just ruined the whole point, honestly. Although I suppose a "stick to your own kind" would have not gone well.

The movie was good for capeshit standards but it shied away from having an actually interesting story. Spiderman's "isolation" was incredibly half-assed and mild, he still spends half the movie orbiting around his former friends and it's obvious the writers don't actually want to commit to his loneliness. They clearly want to speedrun their way into Spiderman getting his friends back.

And therein lies the problem: Spiderman's friend group (Ned and MJ) drags these movies down hard. Ned is the epitome of cringe, and MJ is the dullest and most sleep-inducing character in any Spiderman movie. Half the reason Brand New Day was entertaining was because these two had way less screentime compared to previous movies, and Spiderman was freed to carry the movie by himself. But the story is very clearly moving back towards them coming back to the spotlight, which is a sign the future movies will suck again.

The story should've been about Peter truly starting a new chapter in his life. Imagine if the writers had the balls to leave Ned and MJ in the past and actually committed to what the story (maybe accidentally) built towards - making Jean Grey into Peter's closest person in life. Imagine a Spiderman mutating into an uncharted future while establishing a strange partnership with a former antagonist he's succesfully rehabilitated. That would've been an actual "brand new day" and way more interesting, but these movies aren't really interested in an interesting direction. They just briefly flirt with the idea.

>I don't think the writers realized how much of a pathetic fag they made Peter look.
To be fair have you seen these zoomies and alphagens? They're no different from Peter to the point I'm surprised they can even count as human at this point and not cattle. As a boomer I feel sad if this is the future of our country.
On the other hand, I find it really weird that michelle jones was so nonchalant when Peter reveals Jean took control of her body to rape him.

>for MJ this was tuesday

That was the exact problem with Sony's Spider-Man 2 game. It wasn't as pronounced in the first one because the story was so jam-packed with content. However, in the second game, you had MJ, Genki, Hailey, and Miles who were all piggybacking off Peter. Where it should have been just about Peter and Miles became this whole ensemble of stories, side content, and missions where you'd play as people who aren't Spider-Man.

I feel like its basically CW tier writing in which you can't have a Superhero be on his own, he needs supporting characters who all know his identity that help him out. Spider-Man in the MCU movies literally can't do anything by himself, and in the games that is also the case.

>I don't think the writers realized how much of a pathetic fag they made Peter look.
Yeah I've been saying this in every thread but if Peter was just some random dude instead of Spiderman, general audiences would be calling him a pathetic incel.
>spends a few months in an awkward teenage relationship with a girl
>high school ends and life goes on, relationship ends
>Peter enters a depression pity party and refuses to have a life
>spends half the time stalking his ex gf online while isolating himself from society
>he does this for FOUR YEARS even though the relationship lasted like a few months
>Peter sees his ex gf's roomate once and decides to follow him home and sneak into their apartment under false pretenses just so he can stare at his ex gf
>spergs out and cries when he sees her kissing her current boyfriend
>we're meant to think this is tragic and sad instead of creepy and weird

Eh the stinky hobo telepathic psycho is much better in comparison.

>So the plan is to just revert the memory wipe? That's fucking terrible. Half of the reason BND was good was because MJ and Ned weren't a big part of it. Fuck me.
No, reading comprehension anon, try it. The plan WAS to revert the memory wipe but after test screening showed that they didn't like it, they scrapped the idea and decided to leave it ambiguous. That way if they later decide Zendaya is Spideys' true love after all, they can get them together or they can have him move on. So I guess studio hasn't decided yet, but as always, Tom has some input too given how he gave them this pitch >>223928992 >>223927749 and since he's married to Z, she may pressure him to make them get together in the trilogy at the end.
>>
>>223942874
I get that they're married. But their in movie chemistry wasn't even there. It felt just like a plot point and checking the box.
>>223942900
Maybe he will come out gay later in life. Maybe he's a Freddy Mercury and there's one girl that gets his dick hard and he will ruin it by being a complete fag.
>>
>>223943122
Anon maybe you should read between the lines - Tom Holland and the writers tried on two separate occasions to try and steer the story towards MJ and Ned regaining their memories. This clearly suggests that the people writing the story are very clearly moving towards reverting the memory wipe - or keeping the memory wipe in place but manually reverting back to the same character dynamics as before - which is basically the same thing as reverting the memory wipe.

This is shit news because Ned and MJ are some of the weakest aspects of Tom Holland's Spidey movies, and it's baffling to me that the movie makers do not understand that much of BND's success originates from the massively reduced presence of Ned and MJ. I can kind of understand why Tom Holland refuses to see this though, seeing as he and Zendaya are married, so he's probably not on board with the idea of reducing Zendaya's presence due to her character being shit.
>>
>>223943226
They could have done it better. More if they naturally come across each other and re-fall in love. Having the plot point he hid they've been in a relationship before could have added good drama. Instead they go the route of Peter is an obsessive incel. There should have been another girl even temporarily
>>
>>223943226
Not really, they tested 3 different endings and saw that the most accepted one was not reverting the memory wipe so they wisely decided to back off. I don't understand how you're "inferring" that they'll get back but you probably need to take your meds.
>>
>>223943226
>Tom Holland refuses to see this though, seeing as he and Zendaya are married, so he's probably not on board with the idea of reducing Zendaya's presence due to her character being shit.
Also since they're married, Zendaya appearing in the movie = double income
>>
>>223943286
>I don't understand how you're "inferring" that they'll get back
Because they tried multiple times to steer the story towards Ned and MJ remembering. Do you have some kind of brain issue that prevents you from seeing why this suggests the writers plan on reverting the memory wipe?
>>
>>223943316
When did they try multiple times? Its been only 1 movie and they saw there was backlash, so they relented. Studio only wants to keep their options open, but that doesn't imply their return is certain.
Ned could be a fun friend to adult Peter, maybe work together at Oscorp but the message of growing up and maturing and the "I don't even remember you" from MJ to Peter was quite final.

The lone Spidie lasted for 30% of a movie.
>>
>>223922776
It's good for capeshit but the film doesn't really deliver on what it promises. Or rather I should say it only briefly delivers before actively choosing to stop and go back to how things used to be.

It's supposed to be a brand new story that radically shakes up the conventions of the previous films and crafts an interesting future for Spiderman. And initially this film delivers on that promise. Spiderman is now an experienced adult who had to leave his previous life behind and adapt to a new reality in which most of the people he meets are not childhood friends but dangerous superpowered individuals or law enforcement. This decision is enormously positive because all the new characters are 1000x more interesting than Spiderman's childhood friends and they spice up the story well.

Sadly the film fucks up by deciding this new approach should only last for the duration of one movie and no longer than that. It ends with all of Spiderman's new acquaintances basically becoming glorified cameos he'll never intertact with again, and with Spiderman going back to his old childhood friends who are about as interesting as planks of wood. It basically promises that future films will be boring shit again.

Also the message/lesson this film sends is a bit questionable because it seems to suggest the only way to escape loneliness as an adult is to just desperately cling to expired friendships from your childhood... instead of moving forward in life and making new connections. There's no "Brand New Day" here, not really.

>>
>>223942448
I think what you're touching on is the main problem with these movies and why they feel so cringe. They won't let Peter Parker grow up. This movie initially seems to let him grow up by introducing major consequences (the memory loss) which force him to move forward with his life and find an identity of his own beyond just "that dude who's still friends with Ned and Michelle" but then for some reason it chickens out and goes fully back to the same old patterns in the end.
>>
>>223944216
And right after that they had her finish the relationship for good with the "after kissing you, I don't even remember you"
>>
>>223922776
i like how this movie justifies peoples views on mutants being genocided.

they make a very good case why mutants are a genuine danger that needs managed. based.
>>
>>223945222
Honestly, probably the worst kind of mutant out of them all are also telepaths and this movie shows why.
>>
>>223940230
>Instead the whole movie is him moping around like a faggot.
That's pretty much spider-man.
The conflict of his stories was always the suit making demands that cause Peter to make sacrifices from his personal life.
Compare him to Batman, which is a character that does what he does because he was a victim of crime and traumatized by it, and dedicates his life to getting revenge and trying to save someone else from becoming what he is.
Peter Parker gets his powers from luck, then immediately misuses them and the immediate consequence is Uncle Ben getting killed, which makes peter realize that with great power comes great responsibility.
Parker was a petty dick and a hothead, and because of that he is stuck in a position where he feels like he's paying a penance which results in him isolated and getting the ever loving shit beat out of him on a regular basis rather than lift his own self imposed limits.

>this movie justifies peoples views on mutants being genocided.
Its never been a stretch anon. You had guys like Magneto and Apocalypse who spent decades/centuries trying to either destroy humanity outright, or turn them into slave chattel.
Professor X and the X-Men where there to try and be an inflection for a peaceful co-existence and integration.
At least until Krakoa when Chuck reveals the previous history of the x-men was largely a keikaku between him, magneto, and Moira who was revealed to be a mutant with the power that every time she does she resets to the savepoint of her birth, and regains all of the memories of her previous lives when she hits puberty and gains her mutant powers, and they decide the best course of action that hadn't been tried was making a mutant ethnostate on Krakoa that demanded international recognition of their sovereignty that became an international technological superpower that then claimed Mars as mutant clay when magneto and storm terraform it overnight, and then become an intergalactic player by having access to one of the rarest elements in the universe mined from the metaphysical 'source' of the phoenix.
Which is always kind of weird that for a while two sovereign nations of Earth are ALSO intergalactic super powers, but national politics and economics is mostly identical to our current world. (The interstellar empire of wakanda with a vice grip on galactic vibranium, and Kroakoa with mysterium).
Honestly its the reason I always loved Miracle Man since its pretty much a capeshit story where there is no reset button, and it shows humanity having to adapt to a world with actual gods.
>>
>>223945355
>the worst kind of mutant out of them all are also telepaths
In all the dogshit grimdark bad-futures of the x-men almost never is it a telepath's fault things go bad, unless it an "Xavier got killed and then..." kind of thing.
Which isn't to say Xavier wasn't an absolute bastard with plans inside of plans, he was a member of the illuminiati, and put deep seated blocks in all the world leaders that would make it impossible for them to ever launch nukes offensively against another nation.
>>
OP are you 16 to 21 years old?
>>
Jean should be a character in future Spidey movies, because let's be honest the X-Men are fucking dogshit and she's been a dogshit character in them. She only exists to either be a plot device for the creation of clones, or to be part of some unbearable love triangle. She's already more interesting in this movie as a crazy femcel criminal than she was in all the X-Men comics.
