People were getting so smart for a long time that they would have to recalibrate IQ tests every ten years because scores were getting too high and they needed to reestablish what "baseline intelligence" was. Or at least that was the case until the late 70's/early 80's- since millennials started getting tested around 30 years ago as a society we hit our peak IQ scores- they've never been higher. And then they started to decline shortly thereafter. They've been in decline ever since. I wish it wasn't the case either, but there's data from all over the world, it's not even just the US or "the west" in general. Something happened around the time the millennial generation all started coming of age where we simultaneously reached our smartest, and also started getting dumber every year after that
