I'm trying to watch these movies for the first time and I'm frustrated at how there little of a consensus there seems to be on which version is best (or at least good enough).
Should I watch the blu-rays from 2021 (not the 4k version) or get a used copy of the 2011 blu-rays (and potentially download a version of the second movie that doesn't have that green tint)? And should I first watch the theatrical or the extended version?
I'm watching them at home so I should have the time/comfort to watch the longer version as long as they're good/better.

first question: doesn't matter
second question: theatrical
>>
1: get the longest version possible
2: get the best quality possible, color correct it if needed (bonus : the 3D scenes look hilariously dated in 4k, especially when they're running away from the Balrog

Fuck it, I will just watch the extended version after watching the theatrical for my first time.
>get the best quality possible
So basically the newer version without the green tint over the second movie? I'm too poor for 4k.

Why pay for another streaming service I otherwise would never use?

Dunno about the differences between tints or whatever, but I remember the extended versions being pretty drawn out and boring. It's mostly for super fans I guess.

Yeah they're fun watches if you already like the movies but most of that stuff was cut for pacing reasons and it was clearly the right choice.
