>devil gives girl superhuman and animalistic strength
>she breaks a guys neck then throws him out the window
>but somehow people are able to restrain her and tie her down with a few ropes
>she can't break free for entire movie

What in the boomer logic is this
>>
>>223928748
blessed ropes
>>
the former are humanly possible for a grown man of superior strenght.
The latter is isn't.
You would have a point if she punched a hole through concrete or something.
>>
>>223929021
Rock solid argument.
If he's the devil then why can't he tho

Demons can only interact with the real world through humans, therefore they have human limitations
>>
Reagan killed Burt because Burt raped her.
>"What's for dessert?"
>hard cut to Reagan sleeping in bed
>cut back to Burt leaving the party completely wasted
>only after Burt's gone does Reagan come down and freak out in front of the whole party
>and the earlier marriage conversation about Burt implies that Reagan already knew Burt and for some reason was thinking about him romantically, probably because he said or did something to her that was romantic or about being her daddy.
>when Burt dies it's because he went into Reagan's room late at night when no one else was in the house. What was he doing there?

plus, there's the whole "that's much too vulgar a display of power." The demon was fucking with everyone. If she could just make the ropes burst into flames it would be clear that she was really possessed. Pazoozoo wanted to pretend he was just a normal little girl gone crazy.
>>
>>223929214
>Demons can only interact with the real world through humans
No, they can directly in all manners of ways, including via assuming human/oid form as Incubi and Succubi. Or posing as normal humans, either via charm, illusion, or conjuration magick.
>>
>>223929264
Must be some sequel bullshit cause thats not how it works in the first movie
>>
>>223929301
Pazuzu is already shown as a worshiped pagan deity in the first Exorcist. He is not restricted by possessing humans to do his bidding.
>>
>>223929262
>Pazoozoo wanted to pretend he was just a normal little girl gone crazy.

It’s spelled Pazuzu and what exactly would they accomplish?
>>
>>223929390
what exactly would that accomplish?
>>
>>223929349
Name one physical thing pazuzu did in the first movie that did not require possessing a human. Having statues and being seen in the last 10 minutes of the movie does not mean he has ever actually existed in the real world, just that hes shown his true form to humans through visions

>hehe stupid humans. I’m actually possessing this girl, but I’ve fooled them all into thinking she’s crazy [evil laughter]
>>
>>223928748
>but somehow people are able to restrain her and tie her down with a few ropes
Pay attention to the movie.
The whole point of the possession was to attack all the people around Reagan, and it wasn't trying to "get loose" or anything.
>>
>>223929021
Turning your head completely around isnt physically possible for a human either, yet the girl doesnt die of a broken neck.
>>
>>223928748
actually Damien jumped out the window and the fall broke his neck, he did it before the devil took over his body to break the connection, also it was trying to possess her without attracting the priests so removing the self harm restraints is pointless. also the powers were clearly psychokinetic and not strength, if you can throw a person with your mind why use your hands? also it was a Mesopotamian being named pazuzu, not the devil.
>>
>>223929409
See the 5th point from >>223929110
But to address your question specifically: pazuzu possessing the girl is attempting to damn her soul, father Karras, while not making it overtly obvious it is a demonic possession for the most part.
If he made her go supersayan rampaging through Washington DC lazering buildings to the ground, it would result in a global uptick of faith, therefore be detrimental to his cause.
>>223929442
You set up made up rules where Pazuzu is only able to manifest in the real world through humans. We know this isn't the case from the source material, sequels and real world inspiration for it.
Absence of evidence=/=evidence.
>>223929457
You and 99.9% of living people in the real world would not believe she is actually possessed , so why is the demon, retarded?
>>
>>223929390
think of it from Father Kerass' perspective. He shows up to assess if Reagan is really possessed or not. He's also losing his faith in God. So Pazuzu wants to fuck with him but he doesn't want to prove anything to him. If he proves he really is a demon and the possession is real then he gets his faith back and will perform an exorcism to drive him out of Reagan. But if he only says and does things that Reagan might have known, or could have done, like one Latin phrase, and then when pressed further, she says something in French to play it off like she's faking her language skills, then Kerass thinks there's nothing supernatural and she's just a normal girl self-harming and acting out for attention.

It's really genius. Everything Reagan says could be explained as something she overheard from the party, except for the "could you help out an old alter boy, father?" line, which there's no fucking way she could have known. And you can see that's the one line that shocks Kerass, although he tries to downplay it by hiding his reaction. I love this movie so much.

>>she can't break free for entire movie
she does break free and they have to retie the restraints. please watch the movie before making a thread about it

>>
>>223929574
yeah, but no one else saw this but Chris. If she tried to explain this people would have thought she was just seeing things.
>>
>>223928748
You’re assuming Pazuzu wanted to escape. He wanted to torment Regan and fight with the priests to make them doubt their faith
>>
>>223929630
This only works when everyone is behaving like they’re in a horror movie. "Yeah I my daughter twisting her head backward must have been a trick of the light, I must have been 'seeing things'. That makes perfect sense… oh wait, no it fucking doesn’t at all"
>>
>>223929747
you are so out of touch with reality. There are literal millions of people confessing to witnessing supernatural or praeternatural phenomena, yet even their closest friends and family do no believe them.
>>
>>223929747
dude, there's literally a scene where Chris tries to explain there's something supernatural when she says to the doctors "no, my daughter's bed was shaking. It was lifting off the fucking ground. With me on it!"

And the doctor just goes, "look, your daughter is sick, you stupid whore. The bed didn't come off the fucking ground. What are you talking about, you retard?"

Nobody believes Chris. Not even the priests.
>>
>>223929551
Fuck I need to watch this movie again. Saw it as a kid, got PTSD from it and never again.
>>
This movie isn't realistic because it's very unlikely for a little girl to become posessed like that. Demons don't randomly take a hold of people, it takes months if not years of demonic activities (divination, sorcery, card reading and such) and even then in most cases the posession is pretty light. I've not seen the movie for a while but is there any explanation as to why the girl was targeted by a demon?
>>
>>223929883
The only vague explanation given is that she was playing with a Ouija board iirc. That’s how she came into contact with "Captain Howdy"
>>
>>223929883
>>223929929
Not only she had been playing at length with the board, she interacted with "captain howdy" over the course of months, and was on the threshold of puberty, and also a woman. Pazuzu could have simply asked to be "her friend" and she agreed or somesuch.
The notion that demonic possession works like a substance abuse is completely flawed.
A lot of Saints, innocents, random people, were targeted.
>>
>>223929547
>couldnt name ONE (1) thing
Thought so
>>
>>223929883
Demons have been targeting children since long before your great grandparents or mine were even a fantasy in their forefathers' minds
>>
>>223929976
There's a difference between being targeted by demons (we almost all are) and possession. There are also levels in possession (infestation, vexation, obsession and finally possession) most people never reach the last step. That being said if she played with a ouija board for months it's possible. I had forgotten about that element of the movie, i've not watched it for like 20 years
>>
>>223929976
>The notion that demonic possession works like a substance abuse is completely flawed.

Factually false, demonic possession is reinforced by demonic activity, we all have a natural spiritual layer of protection that is peeled away by sin and demonic activities. Just ask any real exorcist, you don't randomly get possessed
>>
>>223930065
It is likely she was targeted as a scheme to target the priest(s) and her oujia board and captain howdy shenanigans were pazuzu's way in.
>>223930103
That is only true for full blown demonic possession (taking over the body). Basically though if you are a POI you can skip all the steps until full blown oppression, without you doing anything wrong ever (hypothetically).
>>
>>223930154
>Basically though if you are a POI you can skip all the steps until full blown oppression, without you doing anything wrong ever (hypothetically).
I disagree anon, possession is always at least in part consensual, you get plenty of warnings before full blow possession happens, it doesn't happen overnight, and it's not like a disease you get without your consent, it's months of playing with the devil, witnessing demonic activity but continuing anyways. Besides any exorcist priest will tell you that possession is never total and absolute, the person remains at least in part in possession of their own body. Total possession would negate free will
>>
>>223928748
The power of Christ compelled her.

Lol this guy again. We saw you in the last thread you posted the same thing.

>>
>>223929551
Kek this guy is an expert. Ty.
>>
>>223929551
this doesn't make sense when I reread it.
Kerras and the doctors clearly note she is doing things "physiologically impossible", like getting her heart rate up to 200 , puking acid etc. That should have been enough to make kerras believe
>>
>>223931080
The doctor literally explains this with his example of a woman showing super strength and lifting a car to save her child.
>>
>>223929262
It was waiting for Merrin, and to break what little amount of faith that Karras had left.

The demon makes it very clear in the book that it wants to defeat Merrin once and for all by refusing to let the girl sleep and slowly killing her in front of the priests. When Karras returns to the room to find Merrin dead, the demon is freaking the fuck out and pissed, demanding that Karras revive him so that the demon can defeat him cleanly the way he had planned.
>>
>>223929574
I will forever be in the camp that the head spinning was just a demon-induced hallucination. Like it's telling them "I could do to her what I did to the little Jew anytime I want".
>>
>>223929883
She was communicating with "Captain Howdy" with the Ouija board, and there was a scratching sound in the attic that Chris investigated. Regan had unknowingly invited it in and established a rapport with it, not realizing what she was dealing with.
>>
>>223931138
That should make damien get faith then lol.
I think you're confused

Yeah, that’s the thing with demonic possession movies where the possessed person doesn’t immediately die as soon as the demon is exorcised. In most of them their body should be completely broken.

Chocolate rain is based on tubular bells which is titular theme of this movie lol.

Pretty much. If you infuse any material with holy water it is technically blessed.
>>
>>223934763
Lol
>>
>>223934763
Kerras tricks this too when he purposely uses tap water and pretends it's holy water and the retarded demon pretends like it's burning anyway.
Then it starts laughing and says it knew all along.

Uhhhh what
>>
>>223929047
He's not the devil you disgusting brown shitmonkey. Why don't you go slurp down a bowl of diarrhea with your hands
>>
>>223928748

what this anon said. demon was fucking with them.

there is a line in the extended version about it. the priests ask each other why and conclude that the demon is trying to fuck with them/make them lose hope in everything.
>>
>>223928748
You forgot the scene where she’s seen walking around her room even though she was tied to the bed. Everything about her is a lie because that’s what the demon does.
>>
>>223928748
>What in the boomer logic is this
It's insinuated that his strength is restricted or at least not infinitely accessible while in her body. Remember when he pushes out the drawer and then says "in time" when prompted to do it again.
>>
>>223928748
It's a sideshow to make the story of a man finding his religion more entertaining to normies.
