How well-known are these movies outside France?
>>
they're very popular in Poland, at least with my generation idk about younger people.
I think a lot of people would put french comedy above american/english because of louis de funes, and Les visiteurs.
>>
Known in Russia for people 35+ years old.

French films from the 50s-60s-70s are pretty well-known here in Italy amongst people of a certain age, 40 and up I would say.

Maybe I'm just a little biased because my father was actually born in France, in the 60s, and lived there until he turned 12, so he's pretty familiar with French media from the time...but I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of people who aren into French cinema outside of the Nouvelle Vague "bubble"

I also love Louis de Funes, he was one of the funniest comedic actors who ever lived

The Mike Patton/King Buzzo experimental metal band of the same name is probably more well known, unironically.
