Lucas could have wrapped it up any way he wants, but after Muppet Vietnam we get treated to a literal baby babble song. He could have done anything. Jar Jar might as well have showed up to conduct.
There are many great movies that were immediately followed by a terrible sequel, like Robocop or Men in Black or Jurassic Park as you posted it. But then you can argue that the first movie by itself couldn't have been a big movie franchise already.
