Who wanted a clayface film?
Me. I enjoyed it.I also want a black gf.
>>223932077judging by the box officeno one KEEEEEEEK
>>223932077Best film I've seen this year so far (yes, that's how weak the competition is)
>>223932125it made 43 million this weekend. thats not big numbers like meme movies like Obsession and Backrooms but it isnt bad
>>223932077The beginning and middle half were kino, the ending was mid
>>223932077I liked it and I'm tired of pretending I didn't just to fit in with you hateful fucks.
>>223932286Why didn't you watch Obsession?
>>223932693I don't think most of /tv/ (or anyone) has seen it yet, but it easily mogs the other nuDC films, if nothing else.
>>223932757I did like Obsession but that's from 2025.
>>223932077I wouldn't mind a good oneDC ain't capable of making a good one.
>>223932757obsession is better but I think I liked this a bit more than backroomsoverall a solid year for horror though
I liked Clayface, I didn't like Obsession because it just seemed like an episode of Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of The Dark? in movie format. Dunno why people are - obsessed - with it, it's mid at best. Not saying Clayface is like movie of the year or anything, but it beats down a simple gen-z style "horror" movie easily.
>>223932077General rule of thumb for marvel was the more who-gives-a-fuck the character(s), the better the movie. So I guess he was hoping that applied to DC too and really swung for the fences
>>223932077So does he turn into the big goo monster?
>>223932077Me. Its the best batman villain. This movie was a mess though
>>223932077Brown coded question
>>223932940Yeah, it's the same character in-universe in both pictures. But the way the movie gets there isn't what you expect, in that it's not really a capeshit film. If you've seen any Cronenberg movie in the 90s, that's basically what this was. Nothing noteworthy but not terrible either.
>>223932940Yes, and he spends his time gooning in a subway corridor to his crush by making a copy of her using his goo body.
i really liked it its kinda like The Fly. plays on shmood and body horror. and female nudity without making you see male nudity for the sake of 'balance' and thats like +10pts
>>223932077Director wrekt you fags
>>223932304It needs to make $150 million just to profit. Horror movies have shit legs starting November 1st. Tick tock, Gunn.
>>223932077I expected it to be Morbius tier but it's good for a single watch. DC is always better at standalone stories and it's hilarious to me that this movie where a guy's head gets smashed to bits is set in the same universe as a flying dog.>>223933043It does mog all of those for what it's worth.
>>223932971What's the most disturbing body horror set peice. Something to the level of the fly hand melt or the existence tooth gun assembly
>>223933043James Gunn is not the director, James Watkins is. The lack of Gunn/Whedonisms is what made this one bearable tbqh.
>>223933082The thing I found the most disturbing was the shapeshifting itself, not the "grotesque" moments, although they're also there. It just puts it into perspective how a creature like Clayface would actually be fucked up to see "IRL". In the comics/cartoons he's very stylized and you don't think about him that way, but in reality Batman would need a hefty set of balls to fight something like that.
>>223933096this0 quips in this one
>>223932940For a minute and a half total in the ending
>>223932077Who wanted an Ant-man or GotG film? Who had even heard of those characters outside of comic book nerds before the films came out?
If this was released right after Joker it would have done fine financially and critically regardless of quality.
>>223933170That was 10 years ago, though. Superheroes are old news now.
>>223932077The idea is to make films that have good premises, not just to push out a film for whichever big name hero's turn it is. That's how you end up with shit like the old Green Lantern movie or Flash
>>223932989It does have similarities to the Fly, but it's not quite on that level. I see it as a guy version of pic related, but without any ham-fisted "commentary" or analogies, just a creature feature with a drama element.
>>223933183>>223933191If it came out 10 years ago it would be doing better both in the box office and critically (though I haven't read reviews yet). As it stands, I think the people who liked it the most saw it on a whim or were fans to begin with.
>>223933170Those movies came out during a time where people were willing to take a chance on a superhero who wasn’t on a childs’ lunchbox. MCU had that much goodwill. But that time is long gone and audiences are happy to wait for streaming.
I want to see the DC stuff not fucking reset AGAIN. I'm sick and goddamn tired of seeing the same 4 stories come out of DC every few years (superman's origins, batman's parents are shot, flash accidentally runs fast, wonder woman is stong womahn). When the DC stuff doesn't make gangbusters money the studio pivots, has a Crisis event and resets again to undo the mess they made. Fuck sakes, can we at least make it more than a couple years into an iterations storyline and go beyond what we've seen a dozen times by now?>This is why I will support the Gunnverse DC stuff, I really really don't want to see this shit the bed and be cancelled then redone again in 10 years.
>>223933268The thing with DC is, they're better at doing self-contained stories than a shared universe. I get that this is supposed to be set in the same world as Superman, but it's tonally very different. I guess it can sort of fit Matt Reeves' Batman, but there were 0 references to Batman in this film, and no post-credits scenes either.
>>223933304At certain points in the movie I was wondering how in the fuck Batman is supposed to take him on until he got stunned with electricity, at which point I remembered doing that in one of the Arkham games
>>223932077clavicular origin story
>>223933304>but there were 0 references to Batman in this filmMakes sense if it happens pre-Year One.
>>223933304Oh yeah DC's all over the fucking map. A lot of the incompatibility hinges on the "trinity" of the JLA. You can't do a shared universe with a lot of the weirder DC comics characters if you do a hard, serious and gritty "real" take on Supes, Bats or WW. You have to establish those characters and their adversaries in a universe where fuck it, weird shit can and will happen. I'm not talking about tone, I mean establishing that this is a universe of wonky shit with UFOs, guys with flying robots, green lanterns with fucked up haircuts, Frankensteins, dudes made of polka dots etc. Imagine gritty serious Batfleck encountering Guy Gardner's personality against some big kaiju thing.Because of the incongruity with the scale of things they keep resetting the universe. I hope this at least keeps going.
>>223932077It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't super great. The face melting and clay effects were pretty cool and are probably the only reason to watch the movie. If you're a Batman fan, go see it, if not, why bother.
>>223932077Body horror lovers will enjoy Clayface but DCucks will likely complain about every single detail of the movie
>>223933075> It needs to make $150 million just to profit. Fucking moron
>>223933325Yea that or freeze him. Maybe you can just throw him into the open ocean and he'll disperse like muk.
>>223933458It would work if Bats just fucking clocked Guy the minute he said something Reddit>That looks like my ex wif->POW
>>223933633>DCucks will likely complain about every single detail of the movieyes it's very tiresome
>>223933136The way he kills the main mafia boss guy I thought was really good and fucked up.
>>223933043>although it may seem like it, Hollywood isn't a place seem like it, What is this retard babbling about?
>>223932077>audiences want a white male protagoni-ACK!!
>>223933716It’s less they’re mad about a black woman being onscreen, and more the black woman is always the smartest and most competent person in the room.
>>223932690That’s exactly how I felt. They were clearly working around a budget, too. They used that old “column switcheroo” trick for the transformations so much, it started taking me out of the story.
>>223933355Kekked and chekked.
>>223933677The personality clashes are a huge part of what makes Justice League comics so good.
>>223933693That really, really was.
>>223932077Could have been a kino villain in like, a Batman movie. One done in the style of the 90s cartoon.
>>223933878the anti-hero angle taken here was just fine
>>223932077It started out as a Flanagan script as an extension to Reeves Batman. Gunn took it because he wanted the “auteur” cake and eat it too.
>IT WAS THE PERFORMANCE OF A LIFETIME!!!I wish they showed his monster form more in the movie. I almost puked.
>>223933633>>223933688I'm literally sitting to DCucks right now and they're complaining about the guy with the stutter
>>223934237he didnt intend it for any universe when he pitched it
>>223934406Why though? CGI isn't a novelty anymore. Over reliance on it is how you get conventional capeshit
>>223934406watch Society from the 80s, and don't read or look up anything about it beforehand.
>>223934459>conventional capeshitIts what the normies want desu
>>223932077I wanted Clayface in a film, perhaps I should have been more specific.
>>223932077mega collector nerds.
>No sequel called Clayface: Encore
>the ending Is the implication he subsumed her at some point in the movie without her or with of them realizing, killed her off screen and pulled a BtAS kinohorror of making an independent duplicate to talk to the cops that didn't know it was part of clayface, or nothing because they ran out of money and time GG movie over Outside of that who owns the cinematic rights to Darkman because they need to sue. This is literally just a Darkman movie
>>223935020That's what I thought but when did that happen before or after he was shocked and went into the sewer
I just want the DCU psychosis to stop. Nobody’s showing up because it’s lame. The costumes are lame, the visuals are lame, the stories are lame, the actors are okay at best. People are making up buzzwords like “superhero fatigue” and “brand damage” to do everything possible except judge these products on their own merit. >“But le Superman is le too le American that’s why overseas flopping” Shut the fuck up. There’s zero scenario where Lanterns, a regional show with race baiting and minimal spectacle, becomes a global phenomenon. There’s so many blatant issues with DC right now it’s crazy.
>>223935448The DC heroes are mostly noblebright cartoon and comic icons, and trying to make them grimdark or sarcastic just makes them cringe.
>>223935358Only way I can square it is that at some point, not telegraphed at all, the story became what "she" was saying to police rather than real events. Which barely makes sense. Otherwise his clever "be a homeless guy and expect her to follow you into a storm drain" gambit let him just kill her after everything because le incel horror or the stupidest not explored thing that was her, she suddenly became obsessed with him too, and because she experimented on herself with her magic goop(?) they merged because reasons Whatever it was it wasn't a real ending.
IT'S KLAYIN' TIME
>>223932805you didn't watch it in 2025 though because nobody watched it in 2025
who's up claying their face?
>>223933043Nobody asked for any of those other movies and they were also shit, what's he trying to say here?
>>223932077I didn't but I just finished it. Had a great time, waiting for heart to calm down
>>223936447it WAS fun. the pacing's a tad fucked but it's simply fun even with the Gotham bleakness.
>>223935448>except judge these products on their own merit.Okay>Superman is an alright movie that just feels like one of the normal MCU movies that would be used to eventually lead up to some crossover later on. Nothing super crazy, just an alright movie that sets up a fair amount and does it in a satisfying way.>Supergirl was completely fine. She was a suicidal chick who feels like she doesn't belong anywhere being forced into a situation because the only thing she loves in the galaxy is about to die and nearly dies like four times during the movie because of her apathy. It's paced completely fine, constantly has roadblocks put in front of her, has her enemies directly outsmart her, and only really lives in the end because Lobo felt like helping out.I'm still in the middle of watching Lanterns and I'm going to see Clayface next week. Don't care about Peacemaker or Creature Commandos really. You can at least point to something like Man of Steel and immediately address the dumb aspects of Pa Kent's death or how absurdly long it is for how little it felt happened in it, how Suicide Squad as a movie simply doesn't work, how none of the non-Snyder Cut Justice League really works and feels unearned, how Batman vs. Superman feels rushed and also trying way too hard, how The Flash is a complete mess outside of the Keaton stuff, and more. Aquaman and Shazam are like the only movies in the entire DCEU that felt like good uses of my time and if the Snyder Cut of JL was shorter I'd be happier but it was an improvement on it. Blue Beetle, Shazam 2, and Aquaman 2 were the only ones I didn't watch but it's my understanding Blue Beetle was a generic throwaway MCU movie and Aquaman 2 was the only remotely decent thing in the tail end of the DCEU.With the DCU as far as I've seen and been spoiled on, the Lanterns ending paired with how they treated Guy not immediately trying to detain John for what he did is really the only major contention so far with their current lineup.
>>223932077WOKEFACE
>>223936669>”Okay”>spends half the post talking about the DCEUgrim
>>223937232What exactly did you want me to do? I explained my thoughts on the two DCU movies I watched and of what I know of Lanterns through osmosis. I bring up the DCEU because its its direct comparison and across the board it has had nothing but bad movies with very few exceptions whereas the DCU itself has had a fairly reasonable start with an arguably slightly above average movie, an average movie, a TV series that has been very well received even with a contentious ending, and a movie that is currently getting fairly reasonably positive reviews where the critic's only major complaint is the story's flow. Most of the complaints about the DCU tend to be nitpicks at best. Half the people complaining about Supergirl who are actually being serious about it just complain it's not doing the comic justice rather than taking it at its own merits. I had zero knowledge of the comics it's based on and thought it at face value was fine.
Literally nobody cares about the comics. It’s all about presentation. The superhero genre is a visual medium, a fantasy one. They are supposed to be awesome (literally awe-some) by design. The MoS, BvS, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman trailers were all kino as fuck. Whether or not the movie was good didn’t matter, you just had to be there. JL trailers not as much so as that’s a natural reflection of the movie being poor. Aquaman had zero right to succeed as much as it did and yet it did because the trailers, the presentation, was fantastic. And who doesn’t love a little Willem Dafoe. WB was foolish to let critics and naysayers take control of the narrative.
>>223935020Darkman was heavily inspired by The Shadow
>>223935666Here’s how I see it, Satan:Remember the scene where he was asleep and turned into her? He’s doing that while awake at the end. She’s still alive out there in the city, but he’s hone full insane and unlike other crazy people, he can actually bring his infatuation to “life.” That’s just what it looks like when Clayface is fantasizing.
>>223938777Checked, that's my takeaway as well.
>>223932105you don't, trust me
>>223934406literally me
>>223933043>lists a bunch of stuff that bombedyou sure showed him, james
>>223933043He should have simply replied:>Your mum
>>223937558this batman is a fucking monsterand he killsi would be affraid to have him after mebatfleck best batsy
>>223932077Instead of a Clayface Movie why not a Batman movie where this Clayface is the main antagonist? You know in the past you didn't need a seperate movie for your antagonist before they appear together with the hero. You would just fit his backstory in the superhero movie.
