How can we make the Hollywood autograph circuit more dignified for all involved?
>>
If anyone involved had dignity to begin with they'd never do this in the first place.

>Instead of simply charging $80 for an autograph, the organizer offers a menu of experiences.

>Standard autograph $40
>Personalized autograph with inscription $60
>Instant photograph together $50
>Signed instant photograph $75
>Autograph + three-minute conversation $125
>Small-group meet-and-greet (15 minutes) $200

Why don't they do this?

My friend recently told me he spent $250 to meet Mel Gibson at one of these things.

Theres no dignity in paying an actor way too much to talk to you for ten seconds and write their name down for you.

Retards do it thinking their signed book will be worth a fortune some day, when in reality an autograph often diminishes the value of a collectable.

Some people just have the right personality for conventions.
Kathryn Newton deals with women and men in love with her all the time at Cons. This Japanese guy tweets about her 100% of the time and he's flown to conventions several times just to see her again. She's apparently not creeped out about it, she just brings him joy every time he sees her. It probably helps that Kat is bigger and strong than the guy too. lol People say Kat just gives them the most wonderful experience their 2 minutes or whatever can buy and it's bought her a very large and important following in Cons, so her warm personality pays off in the long run.

Dafne Keen is a similar bubbly personality, the story about the fan who claimed he was gonna date her, and then they apparently had a great time and she started followed him is fantastic for her branding at Cons too.

The celebs that don't have the personality for these Cons and have to fake it I do think are embarrassing themselves however.

>>223933745
I actually went to this show last year. It's a mix of pathetic, depressing, "hey, it's that person!" and kind of fun. The one I was at, they had to prop up Richard Dreyfuss to prevent him from collapsing, though there was actually a huge line for people to see him.

I think the two situations that make the vibe at these things depressing is either a child star like Maura Wilson who peaked when they were 10 or whatever, or a woman who got famous because she was a hot 25-year-old decades ago, but then you are depressed to see what she looks like now.

What kind of sucks is that I think there are a lot of times where these celebs actually do just want to meet fans and shoot the shit with them. Dermot Mulroney was at the one at was at and he was just kinda standing around and chatting and laughing with people. But there's like an unspoken rule that you don't talk to the person unless you are going to pay them for something. I get it, because why would you talk to the unwashed masses for free? There were a few people I wouldn't have mind meeting, but there was no way I was going to give them like $40 for a picture.
>>
>>223933842
someone will eventually make an app that does all of that. then you cross-verify a ticket on your phone with the usher/handler and they tell the talent what you paid for.

>>223934535
I’m not trying to be cruel when I say this but you’re kind of naive about this. If they weren’t getting all the money that they do out of these things would they still have that “warm bubbly personality”? Plus don’t you think indulging creepy losers with parasocial relationships with these actresses they would have no chance with in the real world is more harmful than good? If they really cared they would tell them to get a life and stop following them. But they’re not going to turn down the cashcows that follow them around are they.

>>223936391
Mulroney was awful in Scream 6 but at the same time he was the best thing about the movie. I love it when actors realize they're in a shitty film and just play it up. I would say that to him and hope he laughs at it.

In the 90s there used to be "autograph stores" found in malls that sold nothing but signed celebrity pictures and small merch. They cut deals with celebs to sign shit in bulk so they could sell it. Celebs liked it because they didn't have to travel and go anywhere. Shit's brought to them in their homes, they signed it, and enjoyed the easy money.

But those went away because getting the autograph yourself as well as a picture with celebs is more valuable personally. So now celebs have to show up to conventions to make money off of their signatures.

>After dropping out of school in 1995, she became obsessed with the celebrity Andy Lau , covering her home with his photos and vowing not to marry until she met him. In 1997, her father, Yang Qinji, took her on a Hong Kong tour group in an attempt to see Andy Lau, but they were unsuccessful. In 2004, she borrowed 5,500 yuan to travel to Beijing to attend his concert, but still failed to meet him privately.

>Yang Qinji sold the family property to support his daughter's obsession, traveling to Beijing six times and to Hong Kong three times. In 2006, after an unsuccessful attempt to sell a kidney to raise funds, he took out a high-interest loan of 11,000 yuan to go to Hong Kong. On March 25, 2007, after Yang Lijuan attended the Andy Lau Hong Kong Fan Meeting and obtained a group photo, her father, dissatisfied that a private meeting was not arranged, jumped into the sea and committed suicide the next day. His suicide note condemned Andy Lau and demanded a private meeting. Andy Lau later anonymously helped repay the high-interest loan.

I’m surprised that those handlers are smiling, the usually HATE if you take candid photos of them like this. My friend was told to fuck off by Malcolm McDowell for doing this last time he was at a con.
>>
>>223941204
I’m not saying she isn’t nice on a basic human level, I’m just saying she wouldn’t be so enthusiastically nice with her fans if she wasn’t getting something out of the situation. My original point still stands that it’s not about personalities or what they are like as a person, it’s that they are being nice to these people because they get something from them (money, adulation, social media clout whatever)
>>223941709
I’m a distrusting person who does have a tendency to be antisocial, I’ll admit it. But it’s preferable to misinterpreting self-interest under the guise of “niceness” and being taken advantage of, as millions of fools everyday in the world no doubt are. It’s also preferable to being one of these fags who waste time, money and energy going to cons because their favourite celeb (lol) “cares” about them. I mean it, for their sake, someone needs to tell them get real

Don't be a fucking loser who needs to bring art into real life in a way that is mal-adaptive just so you can self soothe.
The point of Matila is learning to be content in your internal world, and learning to seize upon opportunities even if you're scared, to build a life for yourself.

At no point should the translations of those themes require you to meet the actress and have them sign a piece of paper. People want to do thst instead because the want to avoid the real psychological work stories like Matilda drawn into nacency.
Instead of watching Matilda and thinking
>how am I special?
They watch Matilda and go

actually the funny thing is that there's pics of KatNewt with pretty much any celebrity you can think of, like she's always trying to get into photos with other famous people
>>
>>223933745
How about instead of all the performative crap and near worthless interaction/material you pay some amount to enter a kind of 'lottery' where the prize(s) is spending a significant amount of time with said celebrity and you get to choose whether you want to interview them, ask them all those burning questions you have, or just hang in some predetermined casual way. That way:

For the fan:
>They can support their favourite celebrity financially if they choose without it seeming so 1-to-1 transactional
>They don't get the ten second Bum's Rush because they wind up on the same shit-tier footing as literally every other arsehole where celebrity's time and attention must be divided among many
>Online purchase and preannouncement of winners so you never have a situation where you go to meet a celebrity and wind up disappointed
>You could still get something in exchange for your money, like a generic signed headshot like celebrities used to have sent out, have multiple tiers, etc.
>Hope springs eternal and it might actually be preferred to be in with a chance of making a real significant connection rather than no real time with celebrity

For the celebrity:
>Customisable conditions
>Easier situational to control
>They seem less accessible and more valuable
>They can't ever be embarrassed by a situation where they set up a table and nobody knows them or approaches and they look like a dumbass, or get visibly mogged by another celebrity sitting next to them
>Potentially more money through online sales to a wider audience, also uber-fans will purchase multiple tickets for a chance
>They wont become fatigued by a conveyor belt of weirdos and the 'general public', improving their disposition for the few
>They can focus on giving a few fans a truly memorable preplanned/curated/customised experience and this would translate into that fan speaking well of them afterwards

There are many more potential advantages, but this is just the shit I can fit in one post.

The world needs more drew barrymores and whoever pic related is. Drew was so fucking diddled as a kid she stopped giving a shit by the time she hit high school so maybe not so sad of an origin story but the personality is still there!
>>
>>223941630
Not that anon, but I wouldn't be surprised if grading "culture" has made some people so coondition brained that they might unironically view a meaningful signature on an item as a blemish. Probably because so many "collectors" nowadays do not give a shit about what they collect beyond the fact that the item could bring in a profit as an investment piece. And of course you see this in the world of signatures themselves, where people want the sig simply as a resell opportunity.

The fucking President if the United States is acting just as fucking stupidly
People need to understand there are very few PEOPLE in the way humans are thought of.

There aren't ACTUALLY that many people who possess genuine consciousness, and who are able to actively consider things like fluid intelligence, and metacognition.
On the one hand, the types of disgusting humans like the Royal British family have done a lot of work to try to ensure most people are like that. Many people DO have the capacity for complex thought.

But until the root of this great "stupefaction of humans" is found and eliminated, there's no real way to deal with this problem.

I think I remember a story from O&A, pretty sure it was Chris Rock but it might have been Louis CK re-telling the story.
Anyway it's the mid-90s and Chris has firmly established himself as an A-List comic with his HBO specials. One day he gets a phone call and to his surprise, it's Val Kilmer. Chris asks Val what he wants, and Val says he was watching the comedy special and wanted to know if Chris wanted to hang out, because Chris seems like someone who he'd get along with. Chris was like WTF dude I've never met you, I'm not going to hang out with you just because we're both celebrities.

I can just imagine it being better all-round.

Like imagine instead of the ten second bullshit, where the celeb hears the same shit about 'I'm your biggest fan', one of the prizes/experiences they offer is a lesson with your favourite musician? Maybe they'd offer that because they'd find that fun/engaging too. Even if the fan sucked the celebrity might get a kick out of teaching music shit. Maybe they're actually good and they genuinely enjoy jamming with them, maybe even want to hire them. Who the fuck knows, but they could make the prizes/experiences something they're actually interested in.

Maybe you have a burning desire to pitch your script to your favourite director, hand it directly to them, and get to actually discuss it? Plenty of those arseholes. Unsolicited scripts can be problematic due to later accusations of stealing ideas or whatever, and if the director liked it there's unions and bullshit, but maybe you could make it all official, limit your liability and pay the guy later if you actually liked the script. You're going to be looking at shit anyway, you could make someone's day, give them a chance, and get paid for it at worst.

>Have the lead time to investigate and filter out nutbars
>More relaxed event visit where they can spend less time grinding and hang out with people they want to, other celebs, fans organically, enjoying the event itself, etc.
>reintroduce scarcity and increase the value of personalised autographs, and celebrity in general
>They don't get as many fake fans who barely know who they are and were just walking past their table that day and noticed a famous person is selling autographs and they can add it to their 'valuable' collection ... or they do ... $$$$
>Not every celebrity appearance/prize/experience is the same cookie cutter non-experience
>lead time for celebrity to have their people investigate and filter out the really dangerous nutbars
>better security and lower security costs in general
>>
>>223947023
It's not unfair. If a 'person' can't understand such a simple concept and question then they aren't really people and have no need of the rights afforded to people.

I dunno, I suspect a lot of celebrities genuinely want fans to have a fun experience meeting them, (if for no other reason that they'll speak well of them and boost their public image), but obviously they can't do much in the current set up, and their time is otherwise valuable, so they're kinda stuck in the current paradigm as well.

Most of them are social animals and it can't be fun for them to have 'meeting people' reduced to a regimented assembly line either. One sperg they could probably easily deal with. Also maybe they'll get really lucky themselves and the winner will be a hot groupie chick.

The better experience celebs could give selected fans, the higher value the chance to meet you in person would become at the next convention, raising the bar for everyone. Some fan says a celebrity gave them a ride on their private jet, then all the other celebs need to up their game. Anyone still doing the surly autograph table shit comes off as lazy and boring by comparison.

But it wouldn't have to be crazy either. Like Shatner could probably entertain a Trek sperg for a couple of hours just by showing them his prop collection and they'd literally never STFU about it, make all the other nerds envious and pay more the next literal chance they get.

Imagine that though, entertainers trying to figure out how to best entertain a fan.

Also this shit is more akin to the 'backstage pass' competition winner stuff that existed before the cons. Maybe that just needs a 21st century upgrade. Since said fans have their own social media too, and now some cred if they met you, you wouldn't just be satisfying fans, you'd be creating genuine, undying, and enthusiastic advocates.

Cons kinda made the whole meeting celebs thing lame and gay by playing the middleman. You need it to feel more like the end of 'Galaxy Quest' than the start. And at the end of the day isn't it ultimately 'other fans' and their stupid bullshit that spoil your celebrity meeting experience?
