What is the single most overloaded year in movie making history for good and influential movies?
My wager is on 1979.

In our era, per decade, its 2007 and 2019
>>
>>223935676
Yeah 2007 looks pretty loaded. I didn't see much in 2019 except capeshit.

you could make the case for 1984 but I think 1987 just beats it.

Literally none of top 10 2007 movies are "good"
>>
>>223935728
None of these particularly good movies but I feel bad for younger people today who don’t know what it’s like to have multiple massive pop cultural hits come out month after month. Nowadays they have what, shitty marvel movie #729 that only massive fans care about, or The Minions 12, or some rebooted franchise that gets 2 netflix seasons and then is canned

The Avengers or Barbenheimer felt like the last truly huge pop cultural movie event

Bro we're in the internet age... We have pop culture hits coming out every week. A few months is already old news in terms of internet memes.
The zoomies are getting fucking inundated with pop culture. It's just not in movies.
>>
>>223937097
Well yeah I meant with movies not with the concept of pop culture. But the phones probably played a role in it. Maybe movies need to die out for a little while
>>
>>223936699
Nice 99 get. Also, it's amazing to see such a strong zeitgeist of the depressed office worker who has some kind of identity crisis, and the different ways these films explore that theme.
These ones in particular really strike me as expressing this most directly.
>Fight Club
>The Matrix
>American Beauty
>Being John Malkovich
>Office Space
Others I'm missing?

Most people didn’t see all those movies until years later when they maybe aired on TV. Or if they bothered to rent some of them. Mass consumption of movies wasn’t a thing for most people and they weren’t even that readily available if you didn’t see them in theatres
>>
>>223937222
Yeah in the 80s only AV nerds were up to date on movies and shit. Chads were getting drunk doing coke and banging cheerleaders, normies were struggling to become chads.
