>Honestly, I've only had a few ales.
I didnt get why he was such a dick to slash impersonator or the ending. It did make me feel.
i fuck arses
>>223935691Hehe bit of fun hehe
>>223935739feel what jeet?
>>223935691Drinking... Lol....
>>223935691Why is this jizzshot through a projector so loved?
>Withnail: oh yeah I was just having a bit of fun, got a job now so cya>Marwood: Wait, you aren't chronic?Rest of the movie was 10/10. I didn't like the random black though
is this the original>WHAT A LIFE?
>>223936094Feel emotions unspoken off or have properly identified, rube. Hence the short sentence, it was implied.
What's the poison tonight, imageboard?
>>223938549A few ales
I found I like Monty a lot more now that I'm older (late twenties). He was just a funny character before, but now having gone through dark times myself, I feel people with that kind of joie de vivre are really valuable. If it were me, I'd take him seriously and go with the flow instead of thinking I know more and remaining closed off from the experience. I'm a sponge, not a stone.
>>223938549a whole bottle of angostura bitters
>>223939076>I'm a sponge The contraceptive sort
>>223939076I agree with the first part. Keeping a sunny disposition despite all the trials and tribulations people suffer through is a superpower. You can have a platonic friendship though.
DUI's were different back then. We just had gotten seatbelts
>>223939194Yeah I meant take him seriously as in be swept away in reverie as he recites Baudelaire in a field at dusk, I'm not as interested in the buggering part
>>223938549Camberwell carrot
>>223939076>guy tries not to get buggered by his mates poofta cousin for 90 minutes or so until the film just sort of ends
>>223938549Cakes.
>>223935691I tried to watch this a while back cos everyone said it was a cult classic but I couldn't watch 5 minutes because of richard e grants distractingly zesty performance
PONCE
>>223939250Gotcha! Good chap.
>>223939321The zestiness decreases after that first sequence in the apartment. Still a very bombastic performance, but the first part is a bit exaggerated.
>>223939329>his dad was Ireland's minister for health and educationEven guys who have bit parts as scruffy drunks are nepobabies.
>>223938360A little i guess. Remember the ending but dont recall exactly the reasoning of why.
>>223939393>one fella gets an acting gig>the other doesn't and is just left with his miserable wretched existanceCharacters that are literally (You)
>>223939467Yeah but why did they need to go their separate ways?
>>223939485I guess they were just biding their time until one of them made it and could leave all that bullshit behind.
>>223939485Acting gig required moving to Manchester.
>>223939491Brutal but that is how some friendships have to end. Some can last a lifetime. Fairweatherbfriends are still good to have for a weekend hang out or your car breaking down.
>>223939502Why couldnt the broski go along?
>>223939520No drunken wastrels allowed.
>>223935739earlier in the movie Monty, a failed actor, states that when you realize that you'll never play Hamlet, your ambition dies. At the end of the movie, after the one friend he had has moved on, Withnail monologues Hamlet's grief to the disinterested animals at the zoo. His ambition has died. The reason why he's a dick to the drug dealer is pure ego, he's just an asshole
>>223939529>>223939538Ooofffpphh!I remember both those scenes and the monologue to the wolves but I was still cloudy on why he didnt want to bring his friend along or at least visit him. Is it implied its over forever or just temporary?
This could be an episode of Peep Show.
>>223939520Too drunk to stand under his own power.
Fun fact: Winona Ryder loves this film.
>lads hittin the country house be like
>>223939555Marwood, or the narrator, didn't want to join him because he knew what it would lead to: another lost weekend, slumming it and complaining about lack of work. Withnail may have been a companion throughout the worst of it, but he never made anything better. He was drifting into the arena of the unwell, and he finally got a way out. He had to make a clean break for it.
>>223939615Tragic and bittersweet, I recall it felt. Solid movie and worth a watch for any film aficionado but should be saved for when you are a gloomy teen.
>>223939604Do they do that in the movie? I remember the country cabin but not any particulars.
>>223939720Disgusting "culture">>223939712
>>223939389Does Ireland not have separate ministers for health and education? They're both smashed together into one ministry?
>>223939538>Nor woman neither>Nor woman neither...>>223939720It always bothered me that yolk runs out of the sandwich even though he clearly only puts egg white on it
>>223939741>Disgusting "culture"I don't know what culture you're talking about. Greasy spoon cafes or wearing bags as shoe protectors. Which culture are you from?
>>223940357It's fried lightly on both sides. Yoke's still runny in the hollow in the middle.
Did Withanil & I and Wayne's World take place in the same universe?
>>223939076Was he really going to rape I?
>>223940971Formerly Ceylon.
>>223940979yeah and he calls it "burglary" lol
If i get dubs i drink my last beers tonight
>>223939321>>223939345The whole point of that beginning scene is he’s in alcohol withdrawal hence why he’s being so obnoxiously over the top
>>223939076The film is full of great characters but if I could see a (well-made) spin-off bringing back any of them, I think it'd be Monty.
>>223938245>what's that great huge spade doing in the bath?!!!
>>223939076Yes Monty is a good guy but he is a stark mad raging homosexual who fucks arses.
>>223939485>>223939520Because Withnail was a waster, a user and a manipulator. It was clear he would just try to throw a spanner in Marwood's career out of jealousy and envy, and even then this was a man who willingly allowed his uncle to bugger his best friend simply so he could lap up the luxuries of living in the country for a few weeks. Even when Marwood made him agree to leave that night, Withnail intentionally told Monty they would stay the weekend because he was enjoying a good dinner and vintage wine. He has a blatant disregard to anyone other than himself, and is fine with his mate being raped as long as it means he can enjoy living off Monty's dime.
>>223941740I always felt like he didn't really think that would happen, he just assumed Monty would be annoying and it would blow over. Childish and selfish yes, but I never felt that he was selfish to the point of wanting to sabotage Marwood. His success towards the end just reminded Withnail of how much of a failure to himself he had become, and in spite of that he still managed to contain those feelings for the most part. He wasn't a bad guy, just proud, miserable, afraid, and defeated.
We want the finest wines available to humanity. And we want them here, and we want them now!
>>223935691He's literally me.
Richard E Grant’s film diaries called “With Nails” are worth a read if you’re a fan. A big chunk of it is about Withnail and I.>>223939591He mentions this in the diaries. They’re both in the Gary Oldman Dracula movie and she starts gushing about Withnail when they first meet. Steve Martin is a fan of it too.
