Watched The Cycle
This was surprisingly good, tbqh. Story and effects were good. A decent 2026 horror film just in time for the October moon and Halloween. Definitely a rec.

Just finished. 100<100 #037
Art film about a middle-aged guy who regrets leaving his band years earlier and maybe killed his wife. There's no horror here, despite a bloody body in the bathtub and some kinda creature he sees here and there. It's like a mix between Lost Highway and The Brown Bunny made for about $1k. Makes a lot of use of datamoshing and has almost no dialogue.

It is full moon outside and werewolves is metaphor for homosexuality and all the homosexuals here talk about werewolves to communicate with each other. Full moon + werewolves represents the transition from male to a gay-male.

Black milfkino. The adult daughter of a hooker gets off on seducing and corrupting men who should know better, like a reverend, a married ex-NFL star, and a guy whose wife is in a coma, kek. The twist is her mom sold her daughter's soul to a demon before she died and it's been using her to collect souls. It's a totally sincere religious movie, and the acting is miles above the other stuff I've been watching. It's dumb as shit but you can feel that the people making it think they're saving lives with it, lol.

The Blob disintegrates the Thing before it can do anything.
cameo: picrel
>>
>>223939692
Well The Thing would annihilate all humans so it'd be post apocalyptic.
But that is interesting. At first I thought The Thing would be way overpowered, but who knows. Maybe it can't figure out the liquid nitrogen. Maybe The Blog just keeps absorbing Things and getting bigger. Epic.
Cameo is The Stuff

Watched the Nosferatu, it's kinda mixed bag. I really can't tell what's wrong with it, all parts are there, but the picture never feels complete for some reason. It's like the whole movie is just a bunch of disconnected theatrical scenes, and there's no glue to hold them all together. The "horror" never feels complete, like it gets abrupted every time just to switch to something else. And I think the actors weren't that good either. And the Dracula was just disappointing, first night at the castle was great, but everything after that made him look like some homeless romanian bulgar. And every part of the movie is like that, the premise make it feel great, but it ends up like a budget surface level imitation of what should/could have been.
Still not a bad movie, just not that good. Maybe I was expecting something more after The Witch and The Lighthouse.

Oh yes, absolutely, so is Godzilla '54. People get too hung up on the action spectacle and SFX of these giant monster movies, but King Kong is shockingly violent and graphic for a movie from 1933 even if it was pre-Hays Code, it's way more intense than any Universal monster movie from the same era.

There's a scene just before Jack Driscoll rescues Ann Darrow from Kong where he was in the middle of undressing her and sniffing her, and it's heavily implied he was just moments away from raping her with his big gorilla dick, and almost every crew member sent in to rescue her in the jungle dies horribly and gets eaten alive by giant prehistoric animals while screaming in pain. For such an old movie it holds up amazingly well nearly a century later.
>>
>>223944890
>>223945242
no, monster movies are not automatically horror movies. king kong is a tragedy wrapped around a romance story and godzilla is a philosophical statement. neither is horror.

I'm not sure I buy this line of reasoning.
>tragedy wrapped around a romance story
the same could be said of Dracula (esp. the 90s one).
>godzilla is a philosophical statement
the same could be said of Frankenstein.

I'm not sure I think King Kong is horror, but the idea that a tragic romance or a metaphorical statement preclude horror is goofball

The difference is that I actually explained what makes King Kong horror specifically. You make up a poor straw man out of something nobody said and your "argument" is just saying "it's not X because it's Y and Z. Why? Because I say so".

>>223945508
the short answer is yes. dracula literally is about a man's eternal love for his bride that he goes so far as to become a demonic monster because of his rage over her suicide, that is the definition of tragedy. what makes it horror is all the vampire bullshit. frankenstein is literally a science fiction story about the perils of pushing too far into the unknown, i.e. gaze into the abyss. not every film adaptation would qualify under the horror banner but because frankenstein's creature is in it the horror label gets slapped on automatically.

i couldn't find it and don't have a webm, but it's the scene from crimson peak when the girl talks to the publisher about her book, he dismisses it as a ghost story, whereas she explains it's a love story with ghosts in it.

Now you're basically arguing Dracula and Frankenstein are only horror movies for the same reason you tried to be clever with me about how monster movies aren't automatically horror just for having monsters in it, because you accidentally backed yourself into a corner with the tragedy angle and decided to double down on it.

King Kong 1933 is not the 2005 Peter Jackson remake or probably even the 1976 remake which I haven't seen yet. Peter Jackson's remake made Kong out to be very sympathetic, and it was essentially a beauty and the beast type love story where you're supposed to feel sad at the end looking at Kong's lifeless body in the streets after he falls off of the Empire State building, because he was a misunderstood beast all along. In the original, he's just a mindless monster that kills innocents and only spares Ann Darrow because he sees her as a trophy, possibly to rape/mate with.
>your explanation was "violence and rape bro"
I explained how the scenes and events of the movie are trying to instill horror in the audience, which is the only way to define this genre, and I further took the year and era in which it was first released into consideration in my reasoning. I know the only reason people don't consider it horror is because of the action spectacle and flimsy at best comparisons to its remakes and CGI Monsterverse movies.

Any old old school anons remember watching an 80s movie where a werewolf shoots lazers out of it eyes?

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed Repulsion. A great slow burn like Rosemary and Tenant, the Apartment Trilogy is one of the best in horror. I found an old interview Polanski made promoting Ninth Gate the other day and he apparently considers horror to also be funny which you can gather from watching that movie and Vampire Killers and Tenant:

>Your films are always full of humor. How important is humor to you?

>It is essential, the most important thing. If you pointed me to the dark side of my films earlier: Here's the light one!
>Horror and humor are closely related. Yes, I also find horror very funny. In the movies, not in life. Perhaps you can cope better with the horror in life if you make horror movies – I don't know, perhaps. Do you think I film as a self-therapy?

>That's what you said.

>Yes, you led me there. That's probably the case. Why do children like horror stories? It must somehow help to cope with the fear and terror of effectiveness. But we should ask a Therapist about that.
