70 years of kino and ongoing
>>
He has it. It can't be learned, some people just born with it
>>

Godzilla is cool? And also not pozzed. It’s not an American company that makes Godzilla, Godzilla is a protected brand and symbol of Japan, so they won’t drag him through the mud and put him through humiliation rituals like American characters (Superman, Joker, Luke Skywalker, etc.).
Godzilla is all around safe kino for everyone to enjoy.
>>
>>223943759
watching the 2000 one just now. still kino. i have been going through every single movie this year. almost done. best one is still the biolante movie. they never topped that monster design.
>>
>>223943890
As a Godzillafag I’m blown away at the love for Biollante. Biollante as a monster design is sick but the movie is so mid, and it just kind of ends without a climax. Easily the worst Heisei movie.
I’ll give you one of my favorite scenes in all of Godzilla though is from Biollante when Miki the psychic girl is introduced and they go to that psychic children school and the teacher is like “okay we asked all the children to draw whatever dream they had last night, let’s share with the class everyone!” and every kid holds up basically the same picture of Godzilla destroying the city and the Godzilla march music starts blaring while all the adults shit themselves with fear lol
>>
>>223943890
another thing: i listen to a lot of audiobooks 20% faster so i save some hours and get through them faster. normally that doesnt work for movies, but try it with gojira movies. it just works. makes it more powerful somehow idk
>>
>>223944040
yeah that scene is awesome!
obviously all these movies have flaws but there are shot that are fucking awesome in almost every one.
>>
>>223944065
*shots
>>
And people think us nuking the Japs was bad. We wouldn't have Godzilla if we didn't.

You're welcome, Zipperheads.
>>
>>223944040
for me that movie was the one my grandma had on vhs and my first gozzilla movie. i imagine that was the case for a lot of posters.

the other one she had was a gamera movie i think, where godzilla was some dragon like four legged thing with a freeze ray tongue or something. anyone remember that one and got the title for me? i remember this one to be more bloody than most normal gozilla movies.
>>
>>223943866
>It’s not an American company that makes Godzilla, Godzilla is a protected brand and symbol of Japan, so they won’t drag him through the mud and put him through humiliation rituals like American characters
He says completely ignoring the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, 1998, and the entirety of the Monsterverse. And the homegrown garbage like the anime trilogy, Singular Point, the Evangelion ride, and whoring him out to everyone for tranny crossovers.
>>

Gamera vs Barugon
>>
>>223944322
>He says completely ignoring the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, 1998, and the entirety of the Monsterverse.
All those people had to get approval from the Japanese for every second of screentime.
>>
>>223944339
>Gamera vs Barugon
nice thats the one! thx! havent thought about it in a decade or two. in the german version the other monster was called godzilla.
>>
>>223943759
It's just a cool concept.

>An immortal dinosaur dragon god that shoots concentrated beams of radiation out of its mouth smashes buildings and fights jets, tanks, space aliens, robots, and other immortal god monsters.

As a little kid who was semi-obsessed with all of the above, knowing that there were movies that mashed all of that stuff together blew my mind out of the back of my skull.
>>
>>223944322
Ok demented schitzo faggot literally all that shit is kino. The ONLY pozzed Godzilla media I avoid like the plague is that Apple show that’s all about dykes and feminism or something and Godzilla shows up for 90 seconds total of screen time across 10 episodes. Idk why Japan allowed that fucking trash to happen. Maybe to dip their toes into the pedotroon type crowd and use that one standalone pozz series as a bridge for the troons to the normal Godzilla media? idk
and the Hanna-Barbara show is kino. Everything you mentioned is kino. That anime movie trilogy and Singular Point were fucking sick. Get back to red*it
>>
>>223944353
Which proves you wrong on every count.
>>
>>223944366
Germany called everyone either Godzilla or especially Frankenstein in their versions.
>>
I've never seen the Godzilla films, but I really enjoyed watching Pulgasari because it was super fun trying to reverse engineer how they accomplished various things as you watch
>>
>>223944406
But all of those things were kino anon.
>>
>Kills hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions
>Gets away with it, because the actor is to embarrassed to come back for the sequel
>>
>>223944401
>hat anime movie trilogy
yeah i wish they didnt use cgi. but once you get over it it is pretty awesome.
probably the one version that makes gozilla really look like a god. the finale of the first one ist just great.

If you’re going to use 3D like that, you just have to be very stylistic and careful with the composition of your shots. I think they did the best you possibly could artistically with that style. I agree I hate 3D cartoons or whatever you want to call that in general but those were certified kinography. I liked the English dub because the Metphies character’s VA was so kino.

>the most reddit of the monsterverse films

What was your favorite part, the live-action Rick Sanchez constantly making Marvel quips or the family drama?
>>
>>223944444
What was he embarrassed about? He was in a cringe series about dragons, KOTM was an improvement.
>>
>>223944503
yeah it is just me being really allergic to cgi in general. i like em. much more serious tone too.
kinda disappointed though mothra didnt really show up even if the twins where cute.
>>
>>223944516
I liked both that dad and Millie Bobbie Brown. When the dad goes
>”All of these things should be wiped out.”
and points to Godzilla on a monitor
>”Especially him.”
that was kino
if you really want to press me the black army lady and the fat quipper I guess you could consider cringe but they didn’t bother me at all even a little, both are totally nothing characters

The new upcoming American Godzilla movie is supposed to have SpaceGodzilla. I don't know how I feel about that. Maybe if they included Gigan as well. Or better yet, Godzilla X Kong X Gamera. The three of them fight SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, and Bagan.
>>
>>223944553
Mothra did show up metaphysically to attack Metphies’s mind or whatever in that one part.
>>
>>223944516
Nah, that was GxK, with the heckin' adorbs Baby Yoda Kong, the endlessly quipping fat black, and not-Starlord with his spaceship and classic rock playlist. Not to mention most of it taking place in Hollow Earth means that you lose the sense of scale, so it just feels like a Planet of the Apes movie for a while.

It is straight tonal whiplash if you go directly from '14 to that one. If anything gives me hope for Supernova, it's that based on test screenings they're giving it a more serious tone, focusing more on Godzilla again, and there's a real villain this time (Spacegodzilla). It'll get mogged by Minus Zero, I've got no doubt, but I'd be happy if it's at least closer in quality to Skull Island.
>>
>>223944545
I might have embellished a bit with the "embarrassed" part, but he definitely didn't have kind words to say about it.
>>
>>223944612
i kinda forgot about that. still kind of a letdown. then again it was cool they combined the twins and the entity.
>>
>>223944615
>It'll get mogged by Minus Zero
Yeah. It's supposed to be Ghidorah right?
>>
>>223944615
The only thing wrong with GvsK2 was there was no final climactic battle. Godzilla just shows up and easily solos the bosses and averts the catastrophe effortlessly. I guess the whole movie was him gathering power and growing stronger to face this new calamity or whatever he sensed but if they were going to make Godzilla so strong they should have written a stronger boss for him to use his power on. Anticlimactic as fuck but in hindsight it was a fun adventure movie.
>>
>>223944465
I was surprised to see how hated it was. I know all the best aspects were just stolen from decades of past weeb versions, but overall I loved it. Though the mandatory human MUH FAMILY plotline was certainly the worst it's ever been.

So what's everyone's favorite Kiaju? Mine is Gigan.
>>
>>223944650
Yeah, it's Ghidorah. I watched a reaction compilation (I was suffering a spout of momentary retardation I guess), and out of all of them, ONE guy recognized the Ghidorah cackle, which was used very clearly to let you know that Ghidorah is going to be in it.

I realized at that point that modern Godzilla "fans" are kind of fake. It's like that /v/ meme "Silent Hill 2 Fan Excited To Play Silent Hill 2 For The First Time".
>>
>>223944643
Going back to what I said about being careful with how you frame your 3D anime movie so it doesn’t look like shit, whenever the monsters are on screen they’re almost like, part of the background they’re so massive and they’re very conservative with the way the action plays out. If you had the 3D assets they used in the movie running around punching and fighting it would have looked like shit, so I think that’s why MechaGodzilla never showed up in his true form, same with Mothra, and Ghidirah actually. That said it worked, whenever the monsters were on screen it was like you were looking at a storm or disaster that was part of the landscape or some shit if you get what I’m trying to say, and the fast flashy action was left to the humans fighting each other and the fodder monsters and vehicles and shit.
>>
>>223944732
couldnt have said it better. like looking at a force of nature. gods. this they really nailed.
>>
>>223944665
Godzilla evolved so he could face Shimo, and even then he still required Mothra's help to get unfrozen and didn't do any damage to her the entire fight.
>>
>>223944665
they're probably gonna have him lose to space godzilla even with that power up, and then make him power up again through another source (he's got rainbow spikes now, and is fat again in the toy leaks)
>>
>>223944599
Shit, forget the other monsters and just have Bagan, let him be in a movie for fuck's sake.
>>
>>223943759
It's pretty much reddit meets netflix meets globohomo feminism. Basically it's feminism the franchise made to hypnotise the viewer into thinking "japanese men bad" and "POC women good". There isn't really much more to this dreary kaiju than that.

>what is it about this guy that keeps interest?
Godzilla as a concept speaks loudly to the collective unconsciouss because our ancestors had to live with giants and were rightfully wary of them. Giants were real and they weren't just giant people, but animals, too. Petrified giants are all over the planet, but the concept is lampooned by mainstream academia, partly because of the uncomfortable conclusions most people would come to if they knew the true history of this planet. Basically, giant creatures existed with humans in the past and imparted a strong imprint that has since been lost by the collective consciousness, but not the collective unconsciousness. This is partly why people love godzilla so much!

It's sort of a symbol of the friendship between Japan and the United States.

It can be serious, dumb, big, niche, scary, and fun. After all, we've shared it for 70 years.

In a certain way, yes. The whole reason that the franchise picked up again in the 60s was because Toho was approached by an American producer.

>watching the 2000 one just now. still kino.

Based.
2000 is extremely underrated.

Pros
> Genuinely unique villain monster.
> Solid grounded Godzilla vs military scenes. Good use of real tank footage.
> Very good score.
> Family was likable & the kid wasn't annoying.
> Odd but comfy tone related to the mysteriousness of the alien.
> Fantastic extended opening Godzilla attack.
> While there was some issues with his size fluctuating, more than almost any other non CGI movie in the franchise, this film did a great Job of inserting Godzilla into the distance of real shots.
> Great Godzilla suit & a very fresh redesign that notably contrast with the heisei suits while still feeling very G.
> The American Cut's editing, pacing & sound is universally agreed to be better than the Japanese cut.

Not any full cons of note I can think of. Some nitpicks.
> Orga's claws are overly clunky and don't open or function.
> Godzilla's restraint when being genuinely hurt by the missiles got kinda absurd, just blast them already.
> Some of the American dialogue/dub/voices are hokey/silly but never harmfully so.

FUCK the mother fucking argogant cocksucker who refused to make the direct American sequel with the lava bat monster in Hawaii with Bruce Campbell, Spock & Christoper Lee all because he made Spider-Man bucks & Godzilla was now beneath him.

>best one is still the biolante movie
>>223944040

PROS
> Dr Shiragami is among the best human characters of the series.
> Miki Saegusa is also & she is introduced here, although she isn't given as much depth as Shiragami.
> Kuroki & sss9 are iconic & cool.
> Really damn good effects. Biollante's final form is stunning in it's dripping slippery looking glory.
> Great G suit especially in the face (suit is a prototype for the more sinister & muscular gvskg suit which IMO is the best suit of the series)
> Goes back to the original Gojira & Hedorah & gives us a actual message with it's warnings against genetic engineering + bio weapons.
> Biollante has one of the most in depth origins for any Godzilla foe.
> Like 1985, really solid military stuff & quality city sets. And continues the largely dead serious tone.
> Solid score.

SUBJECTIVE PRO OR CON
> IMO a solid & logical geopolitical spy subplot but I have seen some people mock it inexplicably.
> The spiritual aspect of the film IMO is subtle enough to not conflict with the otherwise grounded rest of the film.
> Miki attacking Godzilla with her psychic abilities I could see how it would seem outlandish to some people but I am fine with it.

CONS
> Biollante's stiffness & lack of arms limits the battles only slightly.
> Final battle could have been just a bit longer.

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
> I would have left in the deleted stop motion clips, just slowed down Godzilla's movements so he didn't seem too agile compared to the suit.

>The ONLY pozzed Godzilla media I avoid like the plague is that Apple show that’s all about dykes and feminism or something and Godzilla shows up for 90 seconds total of screen time across 10 episodes
Lesbians being present does not automatically make it pozzed. Kate being a lesbian is only relevant for like 2 scenes the entire first season.

A fully pozzed feminist show would not show the lesbians or heroines being flawed but Kate is shown to be a cheater just like her father and grandmother.

Please give the show a chance at least for the 1950s flashbacks alone. Near the end of the first season has the best emotional beat of the entire monster-verse. Keiko is a far better heroine than Kate, yes she gets a few slightly cringe independent woman moments but there is zero misandry or men being trashed to prop her up. Plus both Russells do a good job.

The show should have been nothing but the 50s era set up to making Monarch and how the government/military industrial complex keeps trying to fuck with things they don’t understand while the Randas tried understanding the titans. The only thing wrong with the Hanna-Barbara cartoon is the SFX for Godzilla himself (he’s dubbed like a Pokemon i.e. it’s some guy making a dinosaur growl with his voice like a kid playing pretend instead of using special effects to create the audio for a real sounding monster roar). Not to mention how iconic Godzilla’s roars are. I think it’s literally the only Godzilla media that doesn’t use Godzilla’s trademark roar, even 1998 uses it.
One of these days I’m going to do a quick redubbing of the Hanna-Barbara show and just add actual Godzilla roars audio to dub over Godzilla himself so he doesn’t sound like a Blastoise or some shit.

Godzilla is scifi and fantasy and military action and magic and aliens and everything seamlessly rolled into one.
The best you’re going to do with King Kong besides the original ‘30s claymation movie is Peter Jackson’s version, or make him gargantuan and pair him up with Godzilla like they’re doing now.
Two totally different takes on Kong but both very kino (Peter Jackson and Skull Island). Peter Jackson has Kong as an actual species of big gorilla that’s like elephant sized, then you have Kong as a 300-foot tall super powerful monster that can fight Godzilla, but he’s also smart kind of like a person and not a retarded stinking regular old gorilla like Jackson’s version.
What the fuck else could you do with King Kong? He’s a big gorilla. You have
>big gorilla
>BIGGER gorilla
Anyone has any ideas let me know but I can’t think of one.
You can do anything with Godzilla.
>>
>>223943866
>Godzilla
>not pozzed
Have you ever watch a Godzilla Japanese flick? They're full of messages like war le bad, nukes le bad, nature le good and fraternity among nations especially on Ishiro Honda flicks
>>
>>223949703
The shitty ‘60s ones that are mostly Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder are mostly campy garbage to avoid, but there are so many good Godzilla movies.
For a first Godzilla watch I’d say watch the original Godzilla, then watch the Heisei Godzilla series which is a direct continuation of the original movie and has a cool conclusion.
>>
>>223949748
How is “nature is good, war is bad” pozzed? Is this 1969? Pozzed is
>troon out children
>straight people are evil
>niggers are gods
Literally when have lefties given a flying fuck about war or the environment since literally the civil rights movement? War and pollution are 100% good for them if it’s in their interest like manufacturing disposable iPhone chargers and dildos for children and war in Ukraine and the Middle East and Black Lives Matter and everything else. Godzilla is literally the least pozzed thing I can think of. Nothing is more important than the environment unironically. Life (which includes humanity) cannot exist without a functional ecosystem and ecology to fucking live in, like God damn.

As a very young child, I had very little in the way of Godzilla toys, aside from one of those very basic Godzilla toys that looked like they were wearing lipstick, and I had a gorilla toy that I would pretend was King Kong, and a pterosaur that I would pretend was Rodan, the Green Ranger Dragon Zord that I would pretend was a new model of Mechagodzilla, and an Ultraman toy that I pretended was an upgrade of Jet Jaguar.

My friend and I used to build Lincoln Log cities with a shoe box full of micro machine cars/tanks/jets that we would trash in epic battles.
>>
>>223949956
Holy mother of kino. I thought the ending to Tokyo SOS while kino was a little rushed with that drill that could chip away at Godzilla’s armor enough for the paralyzing blast to take effect so the mothras could tie him up and dump him in the sea.

Point is American audiences expect a lot more. Gojira was a straight up rip
off of pic related. But instead of expensive and time consuming stop motion they just put a Jap in a rubber suit and had him storm on toy models for a fraction of the cost. Harryhausen stop motion monster movies were popular in the US but again were time consuming and expensive. Why Lord of Rings mice didn’t get made until CGI. Couldn’t afford stop motion

>Rewatched "King of the Monsters" today
>Get to the scene where Rodan breaks out of that volcano on that island in Mexico
>A crowd full of Mexicans fleeing in terror
>The one guy who yells "GET OUT OF THE WAY" and knocks over a woman and child is of course a white guy

I hate that I can't unsee that kind of shit now.

Call me a fag but
>anguirus and Godzilla both share the same sounds, so Godzilla will just make anguirus sounds which is jarring and gay
>anguirus prop/actor running around on his knees like a guy in a dog costume, I honestly hate when anguirus shows up most of the time because of that

I like the actual monster scenes, but the human scenes get increasingly miserable each time I watch it. Ken Watanabe, Kyle Chandler, and Charles Dance are wasted on it.
>>
>>223950207
I like looking at the monsters but the scenes aren't well shot or set up, and it frequently cuts to the humans with incomprehensibly stupid like that retarded rodan scene
>its raining lava
>people are running down the street
>ice cubes son then grabs a lady and tucks into a building because that....helps
That and Kyle Chandler staring Godzilla down in the undersea base is really fucking stupid

Yeah, I'll second that. The wind is literally blowing buses by, and they're fine. He must have insane grip strength.

It wasn't like a "Come at me, bro" look, he was observing his behavior, like he was doing with the wolves.

For me it’s the scene from Doctor Strange (mcu movie) when Benedict Cumberbatch is in the middle of Tibet towering all over these tiny Asians all around him and out from a random back alley pops this blue eyed white skinhead with a British accent and he goes “OI GIVE ME YA WOTCH!” and tries to take Dr. Strange’s watch and gets fucked up but literally what the fuck.

Hedorah is like perfect balance between silly and menacing. When I was going through all of them I thought the late 80s and 90s movies were badass but I kind of missed the cheese. King Kong and Hedorah are the only ones that I felt like perfectly balanced it. It always pops me that King Kong is about pill makers wanting a big monster as a mascot because Godzilla is in all the headlines.

Less too expensive and more way too complicated. Twenty people were needed to manipulate the vines, flytraps, and mouth, along with at least two people inside the puppet.

I wonder if they'll have Monster X turn into Keizer Ghidorah during the short's climax this year. I doubt they'd have the balls to do a meltdown so they can switch MireGoji for KiryuGoji, but next year is the Kiryu saga's 25th anniversary

A lot of people hate it and I don't understand why. I grew up with this movie. It's the first Godzilla I rented at Blockbuster. Orga's metamorphosis kept surprising me, I liked how it went from a spaceship and absorbed Godzilla's DNA to reach its final form, and he was going to keep evolving too. As a kid i was actually scared that Godzilla was going to get swallowed by this thing. And it was comfy as well. I'll always love it.
