"Lulu" was her character in Pandora's Box (1929) and a common nickname for her. It also kinda codified the flapper archetype later on and is often invoked as a reference to that whole social movement rather than just the icon that she was.
For quite a while just saying "Lulu" would be enough to communicate a whole range of associations for people, not too different from how "Marilyn" stood for another star and archetype from the 50s onwards. Louise, of course, was the better of the two in every single regard.

> Slasher. A single mother (Arjona) must stop rogue supersoldiers from killing people at a trailer park. Low budget slasher movie that's light on action, heavy on gore and high on weird, quirky creative choices. Girlboss Universal Soldier this is not, regardless of how the trailers sold this movie. Here's a taste of some of the weirdness- a German version of "Paint it Black", foot fetishism and Michael Biehn doing a geezer teaser. Decent lighting and fog. Passable.

The guy literally hides underneath his loved one’s bed, while Chad fucks her brains out! It reminds me of that one Tsai scene. I’ll stop talking about this probably piece of shit movie that I’m going to watch. Ain’t nothing wrong with a simp though. We’ve all been there at least once in our lives.

All bad besides for the Worst Person in the World, but Oslo, August 31st is the only halfway decent film that Joachim Trier has produced. The worst film that she mentioned is by far Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha. Noah Baumbach is probably one of the worst living directors to ever grain any sort of critical acclaim. The Strokes were cool when you were younger, but looking back at their music, I’m not sure what I saw in them.
>>
>be 'gento
>remake the same film every time
>it works every dayum time
how did he do it
>>
>>223948516
When he stopped doing that (around the 90s), that's when his career started to decline.
>>
>>223948516
Idk, probably because he’s based and does not care what people think of him. I even somewhat liked his latest film Dark Glasses, and appreciate his common motif of the blind person.
>>
>>223948488
The Strokes’ newest album was garbage; the only half-decent song was the one where Casablancas trolls everyone who he thinks has copied him. I blame Rick Rubin for taking them down this path.
>>
>>223948589
I expected this, and haven’t listened to anything since the one that had the Basquait painting as the cover. My favorite albums of them are obviously is this it and room on fire, anything after was awful. I’m ashamed to say that, Someday was one of the first songs that I learned to play on the guitar besides for Nirvana ones, that were so easy. Once I learned enough Nirvana songs that was it for my guitar playing career and pawned my fender for drugs in my early adolescence.
>>
>>223948702
I know this isn’t /mu/, but Bleach is the only great Nirvana album before that faggot Dave Grohl came and shit things up.

Anyway, In Utero is their best. Especially the demo recordings without the major label-enforced overdubs.
https://youtu.be/F9pwGlgQz2E
>>
>>223948702
The worst part of their act nowadays is Casablancas’ constant left wing grifting which is nothing more than a rebellion against his dead dad (who was buddies with Epstein and Trump), he doesn’t give two shits about Palestine or anything but people still eat it up.
>>
>>223948818
Perhaps, I’m just overly sentimental. There are many recordings of me screaming the lyrics of Floyd The Barber and Big Cheese (which were my favorites when I was about 12-14 years old).

Nevermind is actually one of the greatest rock albums of all time, for sure a top 5 alt rock album. In Utero and MTV Unplugged are also god tier, but not on the same level. Bleach is decent. Really, Nirvana never released anything bad, not even a bad song, a bad demo. Even the outsider Frusciante-esque shit Cobain was recording at the end of his life like Doremi was great.

Above average at best. I realized one of these days, Julian Casablancas is a massive talentless hack, and not like a John Lydon type that is technically inept but creatively visionary, but rather just your usual local scene nepobaby who would've gone nowhere if not for daddies' money. He makes The Strokes worse, yet pretends he's an art connoiseur. He thinks he's Lou Reed.

(Assuming I'm talking to the right person) I recommended Providence by Alain Resnais to you and tried to sell it through a half-assed comparison to Joseph Losey, even if the link is pretty tenuous.

Anyway, today I found out that one of Losey's forgotten late career French films is in fact a sequel to The War Is Over (1966), a film directed by Resnais. Thought it was kinda funny.

I did not know that was a sequel, i actually watched that one a decade ago on a VHS rip with hardsubs (grabbed from surrealmoviez, RIP), remember thinking it was the weakest of his late period. >Having to sit through a 30 minutes q&a with Paul Schrader made this movie even worse. Making a movie from the perspective of a pedophile could be interesting if you’re a good writer, like Vladimir Nabokov, but unfortunately Schrader views the perpetuation of sexual assault/abuse as a mere mistake and not a deliberate act of selfishness and cruelty. That made more sense when he admitted to us that he has sexually assaulted someone and also admitted to being attracted to children.

The smooth here. I watch a couple of Egger flics over last week, VVITCH and his Nosferatu. Watching these almost back to back was shocking. The lighting in VVitch was spectacular, while, Nosferatu fell for every modern color grading meme. Made all the worse having recently watched Herzog's version. It makes everything look fake, but im sure not even having looked it up, that everything Eggers does is on sight and practical. Why all this effort just to make it look like cgi slop? Why make Skarsgard put on all that make up to look like golum? And one last thing, why even continue to set this in germany, just move it to london it would make no difference to the plot on we wouldn't get those retarded english accents in germany.

Delinquent duo is annoying but it’s not thaaaat broken. I have been duo’d turn 1 and still managed to make comebacks. The nice thing about goat is that there’s tons of broken cards available, even at 3!

>>
>>223960905
Goat is the most methodical of the current official formats IMO. All the power cards available do make it methodical and it’s easy to recover from a bad position in goats.

Power swingers exist in all formats too. Even if we are playing LOB 2002 format Mechanical Chaser and La Jinn would be power swingers.

It's not as if he's the only one here suffering the cure of a late birth. Most of us weren't alive before the commercialization of film as a medium started and fucking Hollywood popularized it as a product to be "consumed".

Idk bro, I've not had the "I was born in the wrong generation thoughts" since I was 14, I just search for whatever is on at the moment, most of it sucks, but it always was that way. Maybe, but the highs were so much higher.
Right now we're spiraling into the era of low-effort AI-slop being sold as "art".
But I guess the one positive is that we still have many of the older culture preserved. Let's hope it stays that way.
>>
>>223964128
>>223964041

Scary indeed, and people really only go for live action shonenshit and spiritually empty stuff. I am a half pleb but film is so dreamy, i like it.

>>
>>223964128
>Maybe, but the highs were so much higher.
I agree, but I think the idea that you're only a passive watcher of cinema must change. People need to demand quality kino or nothing will change. I send so many negative reviews on movie sites and people constantly want to force this positive faux happiness on me to the things which they "like"... I hate the modern era, it's all just so fascistic, people can't take a different opinion and they want to force everyone to think the same way as they do. It might be paid shills, but I think a way to change kino is to just voice our opinions without self censoring to please the thought police...

It's one thing as it's own content, social media memes and shitposting but I mean, no youtuber movie was actually successful nor good, no streamer and no youtuber or social media personality, no matter their numbers made it. that shit its forgotten, china had some ai movie release lately, it didnt work out, flopped.
>>

>Boomers
Well, I don't wanna be mean, but the door is that way and it's opening, soon enough there will be none left.
I worry more about people younger than me, gen alpha kids growing up that shit, I don't know. It can't be good. Hopefully they don't start wanting to see fruitdramas on the big screen then that's, just pull the trigger and save us all the indignity
>>
>>223964178
>You think AI slop will be accepted?
It already is. The zoomer audience is embracing it. Vibe-coding has already infested the software "industry", with some of the more retarded companies stopping to hire actual programmers. Academia is collapsing because students have LLMs write their essays or do their science homework rather than trying to understand the course material. And because AI companies have started flooding the mathematics community with extremely low-effort proofs that now need to be checked by actual intelligent people and mostly turn out to be flawed, if not entirely wrong.
And Hollywood studios have been about cost-cutting. Just imagine how quickly they're going to start using AI once it gets to a level that comes somewhat close to handmade CG effects for less energy consumption.
>You see no solution?
Well, we won't get rid of it. Best we can hope is that the bubble bursts sooner rather than later.
>>
People won't go see AI movies at theaters because AI has an air of cheapness around it. Anyone can generate clips. It's like paying to see TikTok videos in a movie theater. Normies will continue to look at AI videos on their phones and that's that.
>>
>>223964346
Yeah but there are consequences when using those things in the real world. Military AI, you'd think the top of the line stuff fucked up a lot in Iran, it fuck ups a lot everywhere the way they use it. It might be a scapegoat and factored in but still.
Competency crisis mixed with this can't be good but it might lead to a huge backlash against it, I mean AI or students using AI that go on to fuck up in a big way, engineering, construction, healthcare, etc. That's a thing, no? You would hope there's enough people left that do things the right way. I am not a saint, I have used and use claude for things but it really isn't perfect and the more you know the more you can see it.

ai is the new digital camera watershed. a powerful technology that's too accessible for peons to just unleash a tidal wave of slop. there would unironically be 0 issues with AI if it was only available as hardware and it was as expensive as a film camera. the normgroids who write off AI wholesale are morons, it's like saying that the moving image arts should stop because there are jeets making hundreds of thousands of tiktoks.
