Why is he so overrated?
>>
he isn't

>overrated
Define what this means to you, and describe what it is about Kubrick that you feel is overrated. Don't just say things for the sake of being contrarian.
>>
>>223947436
Because he stood up to Putin and fought a much bigger adversary.

The man who directed 2001: A Space Odyssey cannot be considered overrated in any meaningful way.
>>
>>223947436
You mean here? Because so many 4chan anons are emotionally crippled individuals stuck in a permanent adolescence.
>>
>>223947436
Pretentious people need to signal how smart they are.
>>
>>223947436
Because his best scenes are so much better than the complete films they’re from.

He’s fairly rated as he is but his fanboys who suck his balls and think everything he did was brilliant are annoying, insufferable cunts (same as Alan Moore)
>>
>>223947436
There are performative film fans who parrot things they’ve been told. Usually the ones praising him the most and insisting he never made a bad film haven’t even seen any of his earlier works

he's underrated if anything, he was a genius
>>
>>223951726
which of his earlier films are bad?

>>223947436
How anyone can enjoy watching this absolute filth is beyond me.
>>
>>223952007
Even he knew Fear and Desire wasn’t good
>>
>>223951943
He's was quite mediocre.

shut up
>>
>>223952318
got reasons?
>>
>>223951943
agree
>>
>>223952604
The only reason you like him is his highly polished photography and generally expensive mise-en-scène. Almost everything else about his work is mediocre to bad.
>>
Not many directors manage to maintain the high bar of excellence that Kubrick did. Off the top of my head maybe Leone and Kurosawa are on that level but all the other greats made some stinkers along the way.

>>223947436
Because he's the best

>Leone and Kurosawa
More mediocrity. Why not throw in Lean for good measure.

Rage bait all you want, we've seen his movies and will remember them for rest of our lives.
Your seething on the other hand will be forgotten 15 minutes after we walk away from the screen.
>>
>>223953028
Sadly, the others matter quite a bit as well.

Must be spacious in your head.
>>
His modern day equivalent would be someone like Eggers, except Eggers is comfortable in his genre niche and still cooks with more powerful imagery.
>>
>>223953118
We'll have to agree to disagree. If a director can make a movie actually interesting to look at, then I'm more than willing to overlook other issues, such as script.

Enough space for more than half a brain.
>>
>>223953202
You're right. He doesn't have Kubrick's creepy snark (neither does Eggers), but his movies are similarly overbudgeted and joyless (to Kubrick's); high budget exercises in futility, albeit I would grant that Kubrick at least had a little something to say, even if it wasn't interesting. Maybe Iñárritu deserves a name-drop too.
>>
>>223953357
Like Kubrick, PTA also likes adapting existing works but going his own way with the material
>>
>>223953386
Speaks of their deficits to preferably take other people's ground work and then ram their own imagery into it. If said imagery at least ended up generating a harmonious grander picture, I really wouldn't mind, but what you get is a botched adaptation and a half-assed standalone work. Why oh why do people keep falling for these frauds?
>>
>>223953202
love this nigga but he's never ventured outside period dramas and comedies
>>
>>223952953
haha!

he doesn't have the cards

A little bit.

2001 drags in the middle
>N-No that's the point! You didn't ge-
It drags.

The shining is a stupid movie because, it's quite literally random things just happening
>I-ITS a fever dream the atmosphere actually you are suppose-
It's random and stupid and makes zero sense.
