I finished watching the series and loved it enough to get me to watch the Hannibal movies (other than Hannibal Rising), Manhunter was good but I feel it had the weakest Dolarhyde, I got no real opinion on Brian Cox as Lecter, he didn't have that much of a screen time for me to form an opinion on his performance, Silence of the Lambs is a classic, been years since I last rewatched it, I didn't remember all the sexual undertones with Clarice, Hannibal was good as well, it had a better Mason Verger than the TV show, Julianne Moore did a fine job as Clarice, and just like Red Dragon the last 20-30 minutes are the best part of the movie, Red Dragon was fun, I don't think Norton was as good as Will Graham as the other two adaptations even though he's been in more outstanding movies, Ralph Fieness killed it as the Dragon, now the TV show, season 1 was fantastic, season 2 I almost stopped watching because I found the Verger stuff to be lame but I powered through, I don't know if season 3 was rushed or not, they kept punishing dr. Chilton when they should have had Lounds as the Dragon's victim, I don't know if gender bending him was the reason for the character not getting punished, the main actors were fantastic, the ending of the show was a bit off when compared to the movies, but I was okay with it.
>>223947865There's a lot to unpack here.
If you're going down the Hannibal hole you should read Thomas Harris's books as well, including Black Sunday.
>>223947941Go on.
>>223947941Maybe one day, I've not been in the mood to read fiction for a while now.
>>223947960Black Sunday was his first novel, and while it's unrelated to the Hannibal series, it is worth checking out because Harris is a great crime/mystery author. It's about some FBI guys trying to prevent a superbowl 9/11 terrorist plot.Red Dragon was the first book where he takes a real interest in abnormal psychology with Will Graham as the vehicle to explore this. It introduces a style which he later uses in Silence, where entire chapters are devoted to the story's killer. It does a lot to build suspense as the killers escalate their methods while the investigators work to catch up to them.I think the TV series does the best job of characterizing Will, but the Red Dragon book does a better job than any of the films. I won't say much about Silence because it's just an all around classic and probably Harris's best. If you read any of the books, read that one.Hannibal the book does a lot more character development for Clarice than does the film, and as such it makes the ending far more believable. It's a different ending from the film also. People shit on this book, and while it has issues, it is a lot of fun to follow Hannibal through Florence to see how he behaves as a free man.Hannibal Rising is an unnecessary book, and it does a disservice to the character by removing so much of the mystery around him. I only read it for completion's sake. It's not horrible or anything, but you can skip it if you want.
