Its based on a real-event. The people in charge during WW1 were evil soulless beings, only the Russians had the balls to do what was necessary: depose and execute their hateful leadersonly to replace them with even worse people, but that's another story.

it's a genre film. what do you expect?

I think this is Kubrick's best and most powerful movie. They made the French generals comically evil and inept but I guess that's how it was.

This to me is probably the most powerful film I've ever watched. The rising tension for those three soldiers with the absolute madness of WW1 as a backdrop was just one of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had.

It's cliche and I'm a fucking a faggot to say it. But Kubrick is my favorite. Nothing else aside from maybe All Quiet On The Western Front made me feel something like this movie did.

>The people in charge during WW1 were evil soulless beings
That’s not the correct lesson to take from the incident. It’s about how human beings become abstracted in war in order to serve the supposed higher purpose or struggle at stake. Instead Kubrick turns it into a tale about comically self-interested and callous generals out for career advancement, trying to cover up their mistakes. He reduces it to something which you can clearly blame and point at. That’s why it’s a bad movie.

Looking forward to see your movie on the story, Stephen. Don't touch any kids while you're here.
