What happened to German film making? I'm diving a bit into those very old German movies and it's incredible how well they are. Great acting, impressive story telling that still holds up in modern times. Also fascinating camera work, light and overall setting. Definitely on par with Hollywood back then. In the 1920s they produced around 600 movies, and the US around 800. Lots of camera tech today is still German. They spit out some good actors here and there but overall the film industry there is dead(?). Is there no way to revive it? I'm so god damn tired that all movies I watch are either from the US (and follow a typical flow) or some exceptions from south korea.

>>223951255My theory is that this is because of state funds for anything in art. Be it movies or also things like video games. State throws money at you to keep you creating art. Good intention but it results in lots of low quality products. Why do your best if you can pay your rent anyways?
