Childs is The Thing, and MacReady is aware of this. When the two of them share a drink, MacReady had given Childs one of the bottles of gasoline he was using for Molotov Cocktails as seen earlier in the film. MacReady is testing Childs and if he drinks it, he blows his faggot Thing head off

I like it

I always took it to mean they were both human, but would have to both slowly freeze to death while not trusting each other. To me that's a better ending than either one of them being the thing
>>

Its also a mirror of the beginning of the film and him beating the computer by pouring booze into it
>>

It wasn't a molotov.
It was a bottle of J&B like what he had been drinking all the way throughout the movie.
He is an established alcoholic.
He sits down alone to get drunk and freeze, before childs turns up.
The bottle looks nothing like the plain bottles they use for the molotovs.
If the thing was a perfect replica then gasoline would have the same effect on it as it does us when drunk.

the most plausible ending theory
>"give childs-thing the gasoline-whiskey test"
Macready had no wepons left at the end...it was just the whiskey(gas?) bottle.. he had neither the flame thrower nor the dynamite... so to me was the irony was that Macready survived..the thing survived, but he had no weapon left to do anything about it when it failed the whiskey(gas) test..

but i dunno i like

^this interpretation too...because if Childs was the thing, why not just insta-kill macready who was near death anyway...?

up until then it was getting everyone it could whenever it could

>Deckard was not a replicant
Yes, he was. Get over it.
>>

There's plenty of blatant evidence for Childs being the thing. There's zero evidence for Mac being a thing. The evidence presented by the characters was obviously faked to implicate him and sow chaos. Contrarians don't like to accept this and would rather argue something obviously untrue.

What if Childs smelt the gasoline, and thought to himself, "Macready is definitely the thing, he doesn't understand that gasoline isn't a human drink," and just took a small sip to not let on to the Thing that he knows he's the Thing?
>>
Childs is a Thing and MacReady wants to kill him. Childs doesn't know that Mac is also a Thing who wants Earth to himself.
>>
>>223950692
>the thing understands how a human talks and behaves perfectly but I draw the line at understanding human drinks
retarded theory.
