Ghostbusters (2016)
>>
Faggot (OP)
>>
>>223951247
why did this movie make /tv/ so irrationally angry?
>>
>>223951586
OG Ghostbusters is a classic and this movie sucked balls. It’s not a complex conundrum.
>>
>>223951247
Watching the legitimate criticisms get quickly deleted from YouTube and the sexist ones stay up was an eye opening experience
>>
>>223951586
the part where it was peak wokeslop?
>>
>>223951667
Ironically it came out near the peak woke era and not even the biggest SJWs were defending this pile of shit.
>>
>>223951586
They made a bad film from a beloved property and insisted anyone who didn’t like it was a basement dwelling woman hating chud. And it got out that they used legal pressure to make some of the original people be involved. Hard to root for something like that

Ghostbusters fans are fucking weird. The franchise has had one (1) good movie and they treat it like some kind of sacred cow that must always be revered. I can't think of another series with a following like it.
>>
It is amazing how far we've fallen. I credit the end of Western Civilization and the rise of woke with King Nigger's re-election in 2012. It is amazing that virtually every form of media and every institution has become completely discredited and has been spiritually murdered in that time. This movie was fascinating because it was one of the first big shots from WOKE religion and the kikes and glowies were trying to force on us. But it turns out ugly and annoying women just aren't profitable or desirable in any way.

10 years later, here we are.
>>
>>223951586
How they did their merchandise.
>>
>>223951713
The cartoon series went for several years and it was honestly really good. Also it had a shit ton of merchandising through toys and vidya games so Gen Xers and Millennials have a real soft spot for it

>>223951756
Can confirm as a filthy late Millennial, I knew the cartoon and all the toys from the cartoon much more than the movie.

These fat and ugly cunts being forced by some poof faggot director though... no thanks.
>>
>>223951702
was this the movie that started hack directors blaming sexism for their movie doing terribly before it even released? I feel like it started here
>>
the cartoon was great until they changed the voice cast
>>
>>223951756
>>223951843
I think that, genuinely, The Real Ghostbusters is the backbone of this franchise. It's the thing that everyone thinks back to when they think of Ghostbusters, even moreso than the movies themselves.
>>
>>223951851
Woke religion had been ramping up heavy but this was the first big mainstream attack of it and the first big rejection of it which sent the kikes and pink hairs into a fucking seething meltdown that is still being felt today.

I think you're right though that the audience is evil defense was first used was this piece of shit.

yeah, loved the cartoon and had all the toys...and id que up the Stay Puft scene from the movie on VHS and rarely actually watch the whole movie
>>
>>223951247
No.
>>
>>223951713
Ghostbusters had 1 good movie for adults, but I'll be the one to say it's not why the branding took off, it was the cartoon.
A lot of 80s adult movies got cartoons and toys for kids. Robocop, Aliens, Terminator, the movie is rated R but get marketed to kids.
Ghostbusters, out of all of them, translated better because the movie itself wasn't nearly as violent, and kids could watch it.
GB2 was entirely for kids and was more in line with the cartoon, which was making money hand over fist.
A lot of millenials admit they prefered 2 over 1 growing up.

Extreme Ghostbusters kinda sucked but it gained more fans.

Also the branding itself had a blue collarness to the heroes which appealed to a lot of kids who's dads were also blue collar. You weren't a superhero, you were a regular guy fighting supernatural stuff. Weird mix of the firefighter-tier hero energy with exterminator equipment. Fans don't see themselves as the OG 4 from the movie, but another franchise in their part of the city. Sony was exceptionally stupid for not just making the 4 women in this movie a new GB franchise somewhere else (Like Chicago) and working the old cast in as mentors or just in goofy 'how to be a ghostbuster' training videos they have to watch.
>>
>>223951756
the /v/ game where they brought all the actors back was good. maybe not well received at the time but after some of the actors crossed over, better so now
OP is still very gay
>>
>>223952014
I forgot about the game, that was the closest we got to a Ghostbusters 3.
>>
>>223951586
I don’t give a fuck about how woke it was or wasn’t. It was woke enough already for just being a soulless cashgrab of a gender-swapped reboot. But that’s still not what’s so offensive about it. It’s the fact that they marketed it trading on the nostalgia of the original, then when people pointed out how bullshit that was, they told us it was us who were “mistaken,” us who were “confused” by the marketing. Then it arrived, and it wasn’t just woke, it was fucking terrible. Soooo many scenes that were clearly just Frankensteined reshoots of a half-assed, cobbled-together script, and when we ripped into for those reasons, then they called misogynistic man-babies for saying that shit tasted like shit.

I hate NuWars, too, but at least when Disney tried to soft-reboot the OT, they had the good sense to know that you don’t market something as a sequel when it’s really a reboot.
>>
woke is a meme, it never actually existed outside /pol/ schizo fantasies
>>
>>223951247
One of the first modern examples of a skin suit movie. It wasn’t a Ghostbusters movie. It was Paul Feig’s original idea laundered through the GB brand.
But if the movie was its own IP about 4 unlucky women (and their pet himbo) fighting supernatural entities, it might have been a success.
>>
>>223951985
>Sony was exceptionally stupid for not just making the 4 women in this movie a new GB franchise somewhere else (Like Chicago) and working the old cast in as mentors or just in goofy 'how to be a ghostbuster' training videos they have to watch.
uh some 'lore choice' regarding this movie wouldnt have made it any good or changed anything in any way at all shit's ass through and through and no one cares or will ever care about it
>>
>>223952139
It definitely was a thing but they dialed back on it in the last few years so anybody who’s still seething at it is probably, as you said, a schizo or someone Ben Shapiro (AKA Thiel) is paying off to persuade people into buying Daily Wire+
>>
>>223952192
But then the jews wouldn't get to murder yet another beloved element of Western culture.
>>
>>223952226
Tap, Tap, Tap.
>>
>>223952223
I'm not saying it would have saved it, but it wouldn't have had the same backlash from claiming it a sequel and it turning out to be a remake. None of the OG cast play their old roles.
>>
>>223952192
Fuck it. It might have done all right if it had just been an outright sequel. All they had to do was say that the Ghostbusters had gone on to open branch offices.
>>
>>223952223
>working the old cast in as mentors or just in goofy 'how to be a ghostbuster' training videos they have to watch.
That is actually a really funny idea and that would have a been great way to bridge between generations and also gives the legacy actors something really fun and cool to do without a lot of committment.

Goddamnit, /tv/. You all are some smart motherfuckers. If /tv/ had a studio, it would shatter all of the modern studios with kino.
>>
>>223952223
Dude, that’s fucking brilliant.

>It's like Ghostbusters....except with frumpy feminist bitches....and not funny.
Dumbass film execs actually approved this project...
>>
>>223951851

It started earlier, but you are right in that that's where they drew the "official" starting line for all that bullshit, and the bandwaggoning commenced in full force from then on.

Bridesmaids made 289mil on a 32 mil budget...they thought putting them in an known IP would get them a billy. they just forgot to add the funny
>>
>>223951985
>working the old cast in as mentors or just in goofy 'how to be a ghostbuster' training videos they have to watch.
This would have been kino if it were in a better movie, but I agree with >>223952223 in that there really was no salvaging this piece of shit.
Every scene is just the characters rambling on mindlessly like it's a botched SNL skit, I remember seeing someone (possibly the director) mention that something like 80% of the dialogue was just ad-libbed and it absolutely shows.
It's an absolute chore to watch, even if it didn't lean so heavily on the GIRL POWER GIRLS GET IT DONE HEAR ME ROAR angle. I gave up on it around fifteen minutes in when it was nothing but the characters talking about queefing and how much they loved chinese food and I haven't brought myself to try watching it again since.
>>
>>223952534
If you wanted to make this movie work, while keeping the cast intact, you would have only had to make the girls be starting their own franchise.
>Put it in Chicago
>We get introduced to McCarthy's character as a kid as she watched 1989 new years, which features the Statue of Liberty from GB2 and all that stuff
>She's the hook for the nostaliga, as she's obsessed and wants to be a ghostbuster someday
>Parents say that's stupid cause there's no ghosts in Chicago
>We jump to her as an adult, still following her dream, working maybe with Leslie Jones or McKinnon. We learn to start a franchise, you have to send proof of supernatural back to the main office.
>They find some and we get a little callback to the library scene with them running away
>McCarthy is excited, calls Wiig and the other one to send the application in and everyone's more surprised than anything because there's no ghosts in Chicago
>They get the equipment and videos, watch Ray and Winston excited while Venkman is kinda on his phone, only looking up to read from the prompter
>The underlying plot is the Sears Tower is actually a giant containment unit that is failing. It's a weird looking building with two giant antenna that sucks ghosts up. This is a callback to the cartoon which had a similar plot with the Eiffel Tower
>Egon gets worked in here, as he had gone there a few years ago to fix it and hasn't been heard of since
>Ray calls McCarthy when he notices where the application came from and now you have your past and present connection
>Sears tower fails and ghosts are released everywhere.
>McCarthy calls Ray and he says he 'already made the call' and is on the way as well
>The tagline (answer the call) finally makes sense as we get a nice little scene of different franchises rolling up in their own ectos and helping deal with the problem This would have legitimized the entire fanbase on screen.
>New guard saves the day, finds Egon's notes at the top of the tower in the process.
>>
>>223952139
>demonizing, subverting, and destroying every single white-Christian gender and social norm doesn't actually exist and it's all in your imagination

You tell em' rabbi!
>>
>>223952892
I could easily see that working, but then you'd have Paul Fag sitting in his directors chair going
>uh could we have the girls talk about their vaginas some more? can the fat one complain about not getting enough fast food?
>just do that for the next ten minutes, keep the cameras rolling
>>
>>223952892
I should add
>The franchises should be actors but the ecto 1s they feature could absolutely be fans who lend them to the studio. They would have eaten this up
>Working and closing Egon's story in 2016 means we don't get Afterlife, and no terrible Harold Ramis ghost.
>In the montage of other ghostbusters dealing with the released ghosts, you could make one of the teams look like the Extreme Ghostbusters.

Sony really could have had a slam dunk here and it's painful knowing what they made instead.

>.they thought putting them in an known IP would get them a billy.
The gender and race swapping of established characters and IP's is abject cancer, and (((Hollywood))) deserves to implode for allowing it to happen.
>>
>>223952892
I really like the idea of the Ghostbusters selling franchises with the crappy training videos they make you watch at wageslave jobs.

Maybe for the trailers for the movie you could have the old Ghostbusters doing those crappy training videos inner-cut with the Girlbusters doing that stuff and it all goes awry.

You could do a series of them where the training video trailers become viral in themselves because you could do six - ten of them with the original Ghostbusters making people want to see all six - ten of them.

>Cheesy cheap training video in a cheap office with a disingenuous Bill Murray dryly reading his lines into the camera

>Bill Murray: Hello, and welcome to the exciting world of Ghostbusters! You're about to embark on a new and profitable endeavor

>(shots of the Girlbusters getting thrown around by ghost while Murray is talking)

>Now this, a Muon Trap... or a "Ghost Trap" which we use to easily and safely capture unruly and nasty spirits

>(shots of the Girlbusters using the Ghost Trap on Ghosts and it comedically not working while chaos is happening around them)

Do a series of those with each of the living Ghostbusters to tie the two franchises together and also create viral promotional material easily where you only need maybe a day or two from the legacy actors.

>The gender and race swapping of established characters and IP's is abject cancer, and (((Hollywood))) deserves to implode for allowing it to happen.
>how about 'this movie' but girls version!
lucky the trend failed and seemed to end. did they ever actually make the girl expendables movie? expendabelles i think they were going to call it
>>
>>223951851
No. That was The Last Jedi.
>>
>>223953091
This is exactly how I pictured it. Still could happen with the three of them that are left but Sony wants lesbian ghosts instead i guess.
>>
>>223953232
I swear, every time I mention this movie to someone, they have no idea that it even existed.
I'm glad you posted it anon, I was starting to think I'd made it up
>>
>>223951851
This movie was riding that wave hard, but what made it crash was the Sony Email leak which revealed they were primarily responsible for stirring the sexism angle. They had bot accounts making sexist remarks on youtube comments trying to get people to get tribal about it.
>>
>>223952892
Dude, I would have watched this and loved the shit out of it.
>>
>>223953262
Last Jedi came out a year later, Girlbusters was 2016.
>>
>>223953296

Amazingly enough, that film probably made a profit during it's theatrical run...IF the reported budget is accurate.
>production budget: $70 mil
>estimated marketing costs: $35 mil
>total estimated costs: $105 mil
>world wide box office total: $297 mil
>studio take: $297 mil x .5 = approx $148 mil
>estimated total studio profit from theatrical run: $43 mil

IMO, the production costs are a lie. IF they would have actually profited, they would have made another one, but they didn't.
>>
>>223953412
Last Jedi jumped on the bandwagon after it got going, but Ghostbusters 2016 was riding on it from the moment the first trailers came out.
It was straight up
>this isn't your DAD'S GHOSTBUSTERS
>these are STRONG FUNNY WOMEN
>and if you don't like that you're a SEXIST
>>
>>223953966
I'm curious how the Charlie's Angels modern reboot did. I know there's the
>this isn't for you, men!
>reee why didn't you watch this, men?
comparison but it'd be interesting to see how badly it bombed.
>>
>>223954611
That shit didn't do well. AT all...
>Estimated production budget: $48–$55 million
>Estimated marketing costs: $24-$27 mil
>Estimated total costs: $72-$82 mil
>Total box office take: $73 mil
>Total studio share: $36.5 mil

So just from the theatrical run, they were down $35 mil +. They probably made some cash at the back end, but ultimately is was another pretty big feminist slop failure.

Mmmm no I don't think so. It was literally rushed and incomplete with a troubled development. They had to reshoot half of it and it shows. It's a bad movie with worse pacing and a worse main villain than GB1. 2016 is better. Sorry but it's fact.

>>223955967
It is not though it has a better main villain than the first one and a few more scares. Beyond that it’s very lazy and you can tell some of the cast are going through the motions
