Which film and its ramifications did the most damage to cinema?
>>223954002Avengers. You'd think Star Wars, but good things continued being made after Star Wars.
>>223954002Heaven's Gate is by far the worst movie on there, but its influence is - mercifully - almost zero. Avengers is certainly the most toxically influential of all of those.Scott Pilgrim is forgotten. Heaven's Gate is forgotten. Bohemian Rhapsody is forgotten. The Martian is forgotten. Inception is an irrelevant meme. Star Wars is poisoned by being turned into the Avengers by Disney. Jurassic Park ("World") is poisoned by being turned into the Avengers by Universal. Transformers is poisoned by being turned into the Avengers by Paramount. Everything is the Avengers now, and it all fucking sucks. If anything, we should be attacking the original 2006 Iron Man movie, because without that phony irreverent bullshit, we wouldn't have all this Big-Bang-Theory-imitating reddit-fueled slop we're inundated with now.
>>223954002avengers ruined every form of media there is. books, games, movies you name it. even fucking metroid games are trying to be marvel nowadays.
>>223954131I like the robot suit
I dont know but all I want to say is Transformers looked better than every movie on this list and it came out in 2007
>>223954002Avengers is in a league above all of these and Transformers is a distant second.
>>223954002Without a doubt this one, with what happened to Hollywood not long after this was released and continues to happen today. Great cinematography though.
>>223954002I guess SW, because it did lead to prequelshit (undead generational franchisefaggotry, CGI porn), Avengers was made possible by that, but it turned it up to 111 and made that vomit infect all media on every level.Pilgrim is irrelevant, Gate is irrelevant, Martian is oh-my-science reddit millennialshit but didn't start anything, bottom row are part of existing trends. You clearly forgot one the major culprits: Big Crap Theory
>>223954002Star Wars, bar noneThis film (and Jaws as well) led to the age of blockbusters, where producers understood that they could make tons of money if they treated B-pictures as if they were A-pictures, they led to an infantilization of cinema and an increasing disinterest in story as opposed to spectacle. The thing is, Star Wars and Jaws are excellent films and Lucas and Spielberg are (or were) good directors, the problem is that, as per usual, producers took what they THOUGHT was good about Star Wars (the marketing aspect of it all, the fast paced action, the explosions, the simple plotting) and just ran with it, and this took us to where we are today, where blockbusters are 2 hour noisefests with ChatGPT-level stories and dialogue. The genre started off pretty strong, Star Wars is still a fantastic film, but it's like it got flanderized over time and only the most superficial aspects remained. So in a way Star Wars did some enormous damage to cinema, and this is just scratching the surface, you could write a book about why Star Wars and its success have been a disaster for the human race.
>>223954002Avengers and it's not close.
>>223954002Bohemian Rhapsody hands down.
>>223954131Based takeAlso inception was a step above any other blockbuster being made at the time and unfortunately was swallowed by all the capeshit around it
Bohemian Rhapsody just showed that people would see shitty films if it reminds them of something they love.Heaven's Gate did a lot of damage to cinema by being butchered in the cutting room and bombing.
