He got kidnapped from his mediocre but happy life (married to Jennifer Connolly, heh), barely escaped from a psychotic tech CEO, and then went through a bunch of apocalyptic and otherwise extremely unpleasant worlds. He just wanted to get home and out of the nightmare. Jason 2 did invent multiversal travel, but he felt that he missed out on happiness and tried to steal Jason 1's family.

I watched this show by accident because I was just coming off of Stargate binge marathon and read somewhere that the creators of SG-1 also made a show called Dark Matter and that has nods to Stargate, but instead of Downloading Dark Matter (2015) I got Dark Matter (2024).I was so confused. I thought the ferris wheel in one of the futuristic worlds was a stargate and was like "oh boy here we go", but it wasn't ever expanded on. Only after finishing it I realized it was the wrong fucking show.

I enjoyed season 1 of this show, it wasn't ground breaking or anything but the idea of another version of yourself trapping you in another reality so he can steal your life&family, and the desperate need to get back home to said family while having to transverse a bunch of realties to do it worked well enough as a central conflict.I have my gripes sure, like I wish the alt realties in S1 were more weirder & dangerous but overall I was hooked from episode 1, it was a cool little science fiction show with a narrative that had momentum & a compelling objective for the protag. I was never bored with the show.Needlessly to say I tried season 2 when it dropped and it's mostly been boring dull dog shit, you can instantly tell the writers room for the show got hijacked by a bunch a women who turned the show into a character drama focused show to appeal to female audiences. Shit like this is why i'm becoming more and more open to AI just taking over.
